Everyone is talking about others being on a good run, well we are on a good run ourselves at the moment, and there's no reason why we can't keep it up and get some real momentum behind us. What a run in this will be.

Huddersfield got a last minute goal ? I just found out.

Sick to death with the banal platitudes about "ups and downs", "due a loss in form", "twists and turns".........

Brighton, Huddersfield and Peterborough are from my perspective going for it with a lot more f**king guts and gusto than Saints are who, lets be honest, are still not playing particularly well.

Our next banana skin is just round the corner, while they just carry on hammering for the finish line like juggernauts

It's not like you to be so positive.

Every remaining game is a potential banana skin for every top 6 (or 7) team. Whoever negotiates them best will come out on top.

If I had to find a positive thought, I would say that our team have been playing under a high degree of pressure for the whole season, and are more used to it than the others, so less likely to slip up under pressure. Sure Walsall was a disappointment, but take heart from the results at Exeter & Bournemouth. We HAVE changed.

It ain't over yet, and I still think we'll get there. Need to sort out CM cover 'though, with impending suspensions. But I'm sure the management are working on that.

Not fussed about last night, we didn't let ourselves down in any way.

Anybody who thinks that Peterborough will win at a canter is not on the same planet as me. Sheffield Wednesday are a sleeping giant and are capable of anything with 25,000 fans behind them. Peterborough will need to be up for this game if they want to get anything from it.

I will go for a 1-1 draw

Looks like Im on a different planet. Now who looks a complete plonker!

Ow well It was a bit wishful thinking and I got the 1 correct for Sheffield Wed

No doubt there are Huddersfield supporters none too happy that they only just sneaked a late winner last night, and fans of both Huddersfield and Peterborough looking anxiously at our games in hand too.

We've just beaten the second-placed team in the division 3-1 at their place after going a goal down - yep, distinct lack of guts and gusto there.

All we can do is win as many as possible (yes, I know that's a shocking statement of the bleedin' obvious, but it's also true). I don't know about other teams being 'due a loss in form', but it's very likely that both Huddersfield and Posh will lose and/or draw matches before the end of the season. We need to ensure that we capitalise on any slips they make, and that we get the most we can from our games in hand. As others have said, automatic promotion is in our hands and, personally, I feel confident that we'll do it.

Just how good do you have to be to get promotion This is an unbelievable race

Or how bad do you have to be not too. The 3 best sides from last season gone who are all top half NPC sides are gone, replaced significantly poorer sides. Peterborough, despite losing one of their best strikers in January and being sh*t for most of the season apart from the last 10 games or so are 3rd. Bournemouth, who have lost their manager and 3 of their best players were second until saturday and still in with a shout. Saints have underperformed for much of the season, in fact the only team playing anywhere near their potential are running away with the league. Lets not kid ourselves that this is a strong league full of great teams playing brilliant football, it's a poor league with a handful of half decent sides most of which are or have been underperforming.

86 points was 2nd place last season..while 80 points got 6th (hudders)

we can get a max of (I think) 97 points.......seeing as the league is so much weaker than last season..we can afford to drop roughly 15 points then..?

hmmm, not so sure myself

Put in this way. Before Saturday we had BMuff, Posh and Hudders to overtake. We took care of Bmuff. I dont think Posh will win at MK Donalds and I do think we'l win against SWFC and Charlton so this time next week we'll be above Posh. Then it's just Hudders to go.

(and dont forget Hudders have been ultra lucky with their results on Saturday and last night. Their perfomances have dropped coz of that injury.)

Last year as you state, the league was stronger. I would say that means more teams we taking points off each other. This year there seems to be a group pulling away, so more points will be needed.

Actually, I remember people last season saying the points to get a play off place was around 10 points higher than average. If so, ignore my post.

Just take it as it comes.

we shall see come may

if he is right, and this year the league is alot weaker, then we can afford to drop circa 12-15 points....yeah, right

What you mean two of our promotion rivals both won on the same night? Shock horror!!!

Putting Brighton aside (as I genuinely don't see them not winning the league), to you every victory for Huddersfield and Peterborough is another nail in our coffin and every defeat for them is a minor hiccup, whereas every victory for saints is average and every defeat for saints is an absolute disaster. How many weeks ago were "our promotion chances hanging by a thread?"

wow this thread is funny. Nothing really has changed from before last night. We win our games in hand then we go 2nd...simples.

Quite, our fate is pretty much in our own hands.

It will be tight between us, Huddersfield and Peterborough. I'm hoping Peterborough have peaked too early and we have peaked just at the right time. They may have won 6 out of their last 7 but maintaining that will be very difficult even with the ridiculous amount of goals their scoring. I can't help thinking one injury to CMS and they start to comparatively struggle.

But like I say, if we keep this winning run going with our games in hand, it will put more and more pressure on our rivals.

In fact our rivals are putting the pressure on us with these winning runs. It's not yet a critical situation as we'd currently need about another 26/27 points from a possible 36. If Huddersfield and Peterborough carry on though (don't forget they play each other shortly) and the Orient and Brighton away games become "must win" then our quality will be severely tested.

Jeez I'd hate to live in your world!

What do you think they thought when after dropping the three points at Walsall we follow it up with three wins, two away at places where it would be not unexpected that we would drop points.

We're pressuring them as much as they're pressuring us...you can be as sick as you like of platitudes but they exist for a reason. Their juggernauts can hit a patch of oil as easily as we can find a banana skin...Peterborough & Orient are the only teams playing well ..the others are scraping along but winning..................................just like us!

But we have lost 3 points on Peterborough if you compare our respective last 6 games (excluding last night)

they were on form of W5 D1(against us) L0 and we are on W4 D1(against posh) L1(Wallsall) for us

in the form table we are only 5th over the last 6 games for all despite our good run! having lost ground to Posh (3pts) MK Dons (3pts) Orient(3pts) and Brighton (2pts) over the last 6 games

Despite our own run we have actually only made real ground up on Bompey and just a solitary point on Huddersfield.

We are also by the way the only team to have lost a match over the last 6 games in the top 5 on form.

These stats exclude the further wins last night by Posh, Orient and Huddersfield!

So our current WWW form over three games needs to be extended and am not sure an average of 2 points a game (usually sufficient) will now be good enough for second from here on in!

We cant afford any more Wallsalls that is for sure if we are to get in front and then stay in front!

I'm worried, it seems you have to be better to get out of this league than I thought.

Something else to keep in mind - there are some big teams coming down to L1 next year (Sheff Utd and Preston, & Palace aren't out of it yet). If we don't go up this year, we could find ourselves in this league for a long time.

Jeez what a bunch of girly nancies... this is what we should all be after - fecking exciting end of season scrap. Loads to happe yet, we may not get it, but is I suspect that its betwen us an Posh for second... the good news there is that if we have to settle for playoffs, I fancy our chancesmore without Posh bveing in teh play off mix... but thats based on curernt form. We can improve.

Its still in or hands and even if it were not, there will be loads of twists and turns yet... come on, thsi is what the end of season SHOULD be about, and makes a real change form a relegation scrap.... ;-) Bring it on!
