Smirking_Saint Posted 19 March, 2011 Posted 19 March, 2011 How would it be to Saints advantage? From being able to sell him to the highest bidder in a mad scramble, you restrict it to one club. In any case the club don't need to sell him, he is 17 and "could" be a Premier League player with Saints whilst still a teenager. Maybe I am a cynic but i would put money on teh fact that the deal has already been done.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 So it's not going to be Brian Howard, which means if there is to be a CM signing, all names are open for consideration again!!
thorpie the sinner Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 As BH isn't coming, I have redirected my thoughts to this thread as per IKT above! So who would do a job?
thorpie the sinner Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 I would like...mmm, actually, I havent the faintest idea!!! Arghh
thorpie the sinner Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 I take it Gosney from Totton is a striker?
Hopkins Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 How about we just wait and see? I wouldn't go expecting massive names though. Just look at other loan deals in this league at this time of the year. Hardly world beaters. The two centre backs for Wednesday for example. A guy who couldn't get in S****horpe's team and a Wolves youngster. We just need someone capable of doing a job for a bit. Few months at most. Youngster or Older player whatever. Let's not go expecting massive names who are signed up to be part of a long term deal because as much as that would be ideal, it really doesn't matter or need to be that.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 Lee Johnson at Bristol City would be a reasonable shout. Only on the bench this weekend or maybe Korey Smith, a young midfielder who did ok at this level with Norwich at the weekend? Just guesses as this thread calls for ideas...
derry Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 I take it Gosney from Totton is a striker? Tall fairly quick left sided midfielder.
Saint Charlie Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 Frimpong from Arsenal would be good, saw him play in pre season and he was excellent. Josh Wright at S****horpe? Wants to leave, although not sure they would be keen to let him go. Probs end up with another Jacob Mellis type. He is doing ok at Barnsley now apparantly.
derry Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 Howard would be my no1 now or the close season. As it isn't likely to happen we couldn't do better than get Gary Jones the Rochdale skipper/Playmaker and leading scorer (14 ish in league). 33 I know but he knows how to direct and run a midfield.
NickG Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 Think its good chance they are looking at a 3rd/4th choice CM for us - someone who may well not even ever play for us
MerceSaint28 Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 Frimpong would be perfect...a young Viera type in the making and you would of thought that Arsenal must be trying to butter us up for Chameberlain so should be offering us a loan
Dangerous Albert Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 There's a guy called Gillett or something playing well for Donny...
St.Patrik Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 Just looked at the OS and our squad - Pulis is not there anymore - the other players out on loan is there. And also checked Barnets OS then and he is listed as their player #16 and it doesn´t say that he is on loan from Saints like their other loaned players. Could he have left for good? http://www.barnetfc.com/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10431~29616,00.html
Mowgli Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 There's a guy called Gillett or something playing well for Donny... Good call. Still can't fathom why we let him go. Sort of player you build a team around - very much in the Billy Bremner mould.
DT Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 I'm glad we're getting a CM as it didn't appear we had one on the field against Wednesday. Wouldn't be unhappy with being Savage's last throw...
Colinjb Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 Wouldn't be unhappy with being Savage's last throw... It can be almost a clichéd thing to say on here but really, we could do much, much better, he is utterly past it!!
doggface Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 By the sounds of the interview on saints player/official site, looks like we maybe going with what we have?
Gemmel Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 Lets fly Big Johnny Viafara back for a couple of months
S-Clarke Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 Doesn't sound like we'll get anyone after listening to Adkins. Talks about having midfield options already in the building, and having a big squad to deal with situations like this.
Saint Charlie Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 We can cover within the squad but you wonder what has changed since Sat night when he said we needed someone?
beatlesaint Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 Doesn't sound like we'll get anyone after listening to Adkins. Talks about having midfield options already in the building, and having a big squad to deal with situations like this. Oh brother ! No, No, No
S-Clarke Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 We can cover within the squad but you wonder what has changed since Sat night when he said we needed someone? No one decent available within our budget I'd guess.
trousers Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 No one decent available within our budget I'd guess. What's our budget...?
shirleysfc Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 We can cover within the squad but you wonder what has changed since Sat night when he said we needed someone? Maybe Morgan will be back sooner than expected?
Rebel Posted 21 March, 2011 Posted 21 March, 2011 Gosney from AFC Totton would be worth a gamble if you ask me. N'Guessan and Forte seem to have made no impact so we still need someone to replace Puncheon. At least Guly is back in the squad. If we are going to play a diamond we need 2 wide midfielder (Oxlade + ?) as well as Lallana in the hole. Chaplow is much n better as the attacking or box-to-box midfielder in 4-4-2 than a wide player in a diamond midfield. I think we are still missing Puncheon although Guly can play wide, upfront or in the whole.

Talks about having midfield options already in the building, and having a big squad to deal with situations like this. Shame we're not getting anyone else in, but if push came to shove, I guess any from Lallana, Chambo, or Guly could do a job. Wonder if Ward-Prowse would be anywhere near the bench?
MerceSaint28 Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 You lot need to quit it about Gosney...who is he?? now is the not the time for some non league player gamble.. A strong championship or prem loan is needed to make a statement and push us over the line. I remember when Leeds were faltering last year and McSheffrey did that for them
benjii Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Good call. Still can't fathom why we let him go. Sort of player you build a team around - very much in the Billy Bremner mould. Build a team around Gillet?
goodymatt Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 do you reckon we will just stick with what we have got? I hope we do get a CM on loan, but it's getting close to the deadline...

damers Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 If we did not make automatic (god forbid) would we all welcolme Punchoen back for the play offs??
The9 Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 If we did not make automatic (god forbid) would we all welcolme Punchoen back for the play offs?? Even if everyone except Adkins did it wouldn't make much difference. Can't see it happening either way though, we'd need a CM to get sent off or injured last match of the season for it to be an issue as the cumulative yellow cards are long past counting by then.
Alain Perrin Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 People need to be a realistic. We're asking for someone to provide short term cover whilst one of our first choice three recover (two of Morgan, Hammond and Chaplow). As a result our options are limited. Howard would have been interested but, I suspect, only with guaranteed playing time. Other than that it is ageing players looking for a last hurrah, untried youngsters or recovering cripples. We may not have a premier league winning midfield pair, but our options for our league position are pretty good. With Gobern and Morgan out, you can understand why we were looking but if there's no one worth having / who wants to warm the bench, there's no point.

With Gobern and Morgan out, you can understand why we were looking but if there's no one worth having / who wants to warm the bench, there's no point. There's always the option of a Championship player who's going out of contract and not starting who wants to come on loan prior to signing a permanent deal. There must be a few of those around, assume each nPC side has one or two fringe central midfielders who CDAJFU now AND in the Championship if we go up - call it 1.5. We'd want top half players preferably so that's about 12 possible teams (assume the decent players in the bottom half balance out the crap ones in the top half), multiplied the average of 1.5 players per club interested so around 18 players in all. As contracts tend to be between 3-5 years that's a mean of approx 4 years. Only taking the players with contracts due to expire, it brings it down to 18/4 = maybe 4 or 5 CM players who are on the fringes and good enough to improve us who also have contracts expiring. We only need one of those to be interested in signing. (I'm not going to do a sensitivity analysis, but it does suggest there could be a deal out there for us if we feel we need it, rather than going with Guly/Lallana/Chamberlain/Doble/Robinson/other Academy players as potential attacking CMs).
hypochondriac Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Still to be convinced that our spending power has not been reduced since last year
Chez Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 been through the NPC sides and Michael Brown is the only player I can see.
Chez Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Still to be convinced that our spending power has not been reduced since last year even if it stayed the same (wage bill wise) then Lallana and Chaplow will have eaten into that. Are crowds down on last year too? Mind you ticket tax and higher ticket prices will even that out.

Gemmel Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Still to be convinced that our spending power has not been reduced since last year Lallana would have been a million signing on fee (or there abouts) Staplewood 6 million Forte nGusen You could be right, but with those financial commitments above, that might just exceed last years
(not THE) Kevin Moore Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 been through the NPC sides and Michael Brown is the only player I can see. Would be exactly the sort of player we need, solid, committed (ahem) tackler, good passer and scores the odd goal too, plus he seems to have a good engine.
Ken Tone Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 We can cover within the squad but you wonder what has changed since Sat night when he said we needed someone? Well because we didn't get someone straight away, things have moved on. Today's game is the second of Gobern's 3 suspended, so we've only got to get through one more without another injury or suspension then he's back. Also, anyone got any news on Schneidelin's injury? Any chance he might be back before the end of the season? Or maybe the whole thing is bluff, to avoid sounding desperate as we negotiate with a club/player we want! ;-)
benjii Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 Lallana would have been a million signing on fee (or there abouts) Staplewood 6 million Forte nGusen You could be right, but with those financial commitments above, that might just exceed last years Plus we had already paid big for Lambert, Fonte, Jaidi (must be on a good wedge + signing fee), Richardson, Butterfield, Guly etc... If Chelsea don't spend £50m on a single player in the summer will it be evidence of decreased spending power? Doubt it.
Chez Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 how about Adlène Guedioura or Geoffrey Mujangi Bia from Wolves. Guedioura just returned to first team training after breaking his leg. Bia has played a couple of times for the first team but is only 21.
Chez Posted 22 March, 2011 Posted 22 March, 2011 If Chelsea don't spend £50m on a single player in the summer will it be evidence of decreased spending power? Doubt it.if Abromovic had died and they didn't spend big I think people might start asking questions.

Mind you ticket tax and higher ticket prices will even that out. Crowds are up on average, though we're not exactly comparing like for like as there are still a lot of midweek matches which may pull that average down (and there are also potentially more "critical" games to push it up further. Season ----Club-------------High-- High Opponent---------- Low -------Low Opponent---- Average This season Southampton 26289 Bournemouth(02/10/10)---- 17857 Colchester(18/09/10)---- 21538 Last season Southampton 30890 Exeter City(26/12/09) ------16402 Wycombe(01/12/09)----- 20982

He's a horrible narky little tit, I'd hate him to play for us almost as much as I hate him playing for them.
