New CM loanee...ideas?

Must be Howard. I believe there's a rule in Saints constitution that says that whilst we're outside of the top flight we must have a player on loan from Reading. He'd be the fourth in recent times after Pearce' date=' Antonio and Bignall wouldn't he? Isn't it nice when a bigger club helps us littl'uns out? ;)[/quote']

Hey ...yes, and when we're promoted we can all sing "ce sera, ce sera, we're all going to the Madejski" and invent a whole new major derby rivalry. ...oh hang on, that's been done.

Sam Togwell of S****horpe is a likely target, Adkins signed him for them.

But I would like to think that Les Reed will try to get Palace to loan us Darren Ambrose.

Charlton need to shake a few things up and I'd expect a clear out this summer. They're done that already on the managerial front with Parkinson replaced by Powell and now that Charlton are more or less out of the promotion race that could be a good call for both teams.

This is no dispect to you and obviously your post is appreciated.

But the whole he would have signed last week but for the appearance fee business just seems a little far fetched and a way of explaining why he played today if he was coming on loan.

None taken! Like I say, just passing on what I've heard...

Thomas, with respect to the fact you probably don't want to reveal who your source is, how confident are you in them? Have they had good info before?

In all honesty he's been spot on with a couple of transfers. Got Lambert, Chaplow and Barnard bang on the money... but then he was so certain about Stock (remember that?) and that didn't come off at all, so I'm going to go with "fairly" confident but wouldn't bet the farm just yet...

Someone's modified wikipedia.....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Howard_%28footballer%29

Brian Richard William Howard (born 23 January 1983) is an English footballer who plays for Reading in the Football League Championship as a midfielder. He is also a former England U20 international. Howard is set to join boyhood former club southampton on loan after talks, with a view to signing a long term deal with the saints in the summer, providing they gain promotion to the championship.

All very interesting, but Ambrose plays for Palace.

This is a case of really jumping the gun. I have been in contact with Brian and the way it is being put about as a done deal is nonsense. That is not to say it can't happen but it is nowhere near at this point in time.

When you say nowhere near do you mean he just has to put his stuff in the car? :)

with Gobern, Morgan and potentially Hammond if he gets another yellow all out, why would we be looking for an attacking midfielder like Howard? I know Chaplow has been poor recently, but unless we are bringing in two I'd of thought a holding midfielder would be the order of the day.

Hammond is on 8 yellows,Chaplow only 7 but he's picking them up at an impressive rate of late. I'd think the chances of us making

the next amnesty without one of them being either injured or suspended are virtually zero. The Plymouth game being postponed might help though.

If Guly is nearly fit, surely he played central midfield in Italy? If he could slot in with Barnard & Lambert up front, it could actually improve the team.

There is no way Guly is a central midfielder in the English sense of it.He'd be comfortable in the Lallana or Chamberlain role but he'd be crap in the tackle and would probably get sent off within minutes. Chaplow is already limited enough in his defensive qualities,we don't need to burden ourselves with Guly as well.If the worse comes to the worst I'd do what Derry suggested and move Fonte forward a notch.

good shout.

pretty attacking / lightweight midfield - Ox-C / Guly / Lallana!

think Fonte would be lacking in passing and quick moving of the ball

but a far better ball winning and defensive solution than Guly. Can't pass the ball if you can't win it and being down to 10 wouldn't help.Look what happened to Gobern..........

That's why he is, and will stay a CB!

Think options that Adkins would use in CM before Fonte are:

Guly

Richardson

Butterfield

Dickson

Lallana

McNish

I'd prefer Dickson in CM than Fonte or Butterfield. A few foraging runs from the back doesn't make a centre midfielder and Butterfield just doesn't have the legs to play in the middle. I don't see the issue in playing Guly alongside Hammond if required. Guly is mobile, excellent in the ball and contrary to previous posters suggestions he can tackle. The issue is if Hammond is suspended or injured. An underperforming Chaplow alongside Dickson doesn't inspire.

Absolutely, that's the key concern. He is our number one CM.

You are kidding about Hammond right!?!

At times he is bl**dy awful - recently against Swindon and against Yeovil he was the worst player on the pitch for most of the game. He failed to track back time and again, his passing was abysmal and his tackling poor.Hopefully it's just because he needs 3 or 4 games to get match fit!

Both Morgan and Chaplow are far better midfielders. As for that both Howard and Surman would improve our team right now. What we really need is a CM, a winger and a striker before the loan window closes to cover for Chamberlain and Lallana as well as Barnard if legal issues take him out of the team - as well central midfield!

Hammond is a good player and is in a good run of form at the moment. I've always liked what he offers, he can look limited at times but I think he always gives his all.

We don't need cover for Chambo and Lallana, that's just being greedy tbh. We have N'Guessun and Forte who have not had a chance to make an impact yet, they can play on the flanks (either side) or up front.

I don't understand why they're being written off with less than 120mins to their names.

According to the OS, Hammond's on 6 yellows, not 8. Anyone know which is right?

Agree we need some midfield cover as still six games to go (maybe five depending on when the Plymouth date is) before the amnesty comes in (April 10th), plus another injury would leave us stretched in midfield and I'm assuming Morgan won't be back in a hurry. But wouldn't be surprised if we end up with one of Guly/Butterfield/Dickson and hopefully they'll step up and surprise us.

Matty Oakley on loan would be good except he's still starting for Leicester.

6 yellows in the League, one in the JPT and 1 in the Carling Cup, total 8.

I've criticised Hammond earlier in the season but I do think on current performances that is a bit harsh. He's weighed in with vital goals like Saturday's and has been more vocal on the pitch. He's not our most talented player but not our worst either. As for N'Guessan, he played well when I saw him at Exeter but has been stop-start since but his pace is a threat and we've hardly seen Forte. We do another CM after Morgan's injury and Gobern's stupidity on Saturday. Gobern has been a red card waiting to happen as a sub, he also totalled one of Exeter's players straight after coming on and got away with it, a loan next season might be in order as there is a good player in there somewhere.
