Window Cleaner Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 It'll be funny if we both go up to see Bournemouth trying to make out they're bigger rivals to Portsmouth than we are... Bournemouth won't go up now, might not even make the play-offs,today's result will be utterly deflating for them plus they've a few tough games ahead of them in their last 10.
Saint_Jonny Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Fantastic, didn't think we'd lose, even after going a goal behind early on, still thought we'd get something from the game, Bomo bottled it the last two times and seems they stuffed it up again today. Pleased Lambo knocked a free kick in, been threatening to do so for ages!
barney Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Not playing great but still winning so what the hell. 2nd place is ours to lose, hope bompey go up in the play-offs.
lambertsrightleg Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 you little beauties. Southampton FC I love you
corky morris Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Didnt go today as I arrived back from Cape Town this morning & had not seen the kids for 10 days. Have to say I am very very pleased with the result, excellent indeed!! If we could only have beaten Walsall I would be feelling confident..............Still, savour the victory & a few scoops tonight. Well done Saints!!
VectisSaint Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 sounds like we were really lucky as they should have had a penalty and they were the better side for most of the match. Then again that was from Bradbury's Solent interview. Perhaps he could have said we deserved it. If you've been gobbing off all week and you then get a good spanking on your own patch perhaps a little humility might be in order. . Thought Bradbury's post match reaction was very fair and he said nothing bad against us, very complimentary at times. Very glad to have got 3 points today but seriously hope B'mouth go up through the playoffs against Posh, Hudders and MK/Orient.
Saint_clark Posted 12 March, 2011 Author Posted 12 March, 2011 Where is Alpine this evening? Outstanding result. Chuffed to Bits. Never been fantastically impressed with Dean Hammond, but reckon he scored the most important goal of our season today. Its between us and Peterborough, imo. Right here.
Rebel Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 there are quite a lot of bad loser Bournemouth fans out there tonight - particularly on Radio Solent! 3 games and 3 Saints wins this season - that says it all really!
Gorgiesaint Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Think that 2nd is now down to us, Huddersfield & Peterborough - it is in our hands. The play-offs will be the two that miss out plus MkDons and then either Bompey or Leyton Orient - and nearly always someone sneaks in late to the party.
M271 Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 So lets see, thats 2 - 0 to Saints in the Cup. 2 - 0 to Saints at St Marys in the league 3 - 1 to Saints at Dean Court in the league. Cherry pickers, can you give it a rest now, please ? You are becoming like Heather Mills........not a leg to stand on :-) I hope that this doesn't come back to haunt in the Play Off Final at Old Trafford in May ?
saints-cris Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Fantastic result, espescially to come from behind. We won when we had to, massive win. Need P'boro to slip up a bit as they're looking a good bet for 2nd as well. Well done Saints.
chocco boxo Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Hope they go up as well, 6 points guaranteed next year would be nice!
simo Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 We have now scored more away goals and conceded less home goals than anyone else we got to be doing something right !
Dalek2003 Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Predicted 0-0, got it wrong. Very p-leased about that. That late equaliser by Posh last month looks even more annoying now !
Ohio Saint Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Can you imagine how hard that was on the Bompey fans? We just upended their season completely in one fell swoop. As happy as I am for our win, I can't begin to imagine how hard that was on them. Anyways! Onwards and upwards Saints!! (I Hope)
Belgiansaint Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 brilliant result, even more so with so many games in hand
Cricketphilly Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Best feeling after a result in a long time.
Cricketphilly Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Kicking off in Bournemouth outside a mate's hotel
RedWillie Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 great result...just looked at Huddrsfield remaining games. They still have to play P'boro, Brighton, Mk Dons, tough....
Toomer Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Went shopping with the wife this afternoon as I did not think I could take 90 mins of it on the radio, got in the car just as Lambo put the third away got some very strange looks in the West Quay car park as I shouted at the top of my voice get in you f***in beauty.

Done the same getting off the train at Worcester Park!
alpine_saint Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Right here. Thanks for that. Reckon sm25 posted that without even looking.
niceandfriendly Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 (edited) Brilliant away day, haven't got a voice anymore though. It was a cracking game, both teams played pretty well, it was very end to end. Motm yet again Adam Lallana, but special mentions to Lee Barnard and Dean Hammond. Edit.. And as a side note, it seemed that the ref got the big decisions right. Their goal came off butter field so can't have been offside, despite being very, very lucky, and it didn't look like a penalty for them. The biggest indicator of that was how none of the Bournemouth players appealed for it. And it was a red card. Gobern was very very unfortunate though, he slipped right as he was making the challenge, vbut you still have to send him off unfortunately. Edited 12 March, 2011 by niceandfriendly

Could you not hear us on the radio? Not sure what others think, but I felt the atmosphere from the saints fans was brilliant.
latter day saint Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Could you not hear us on the radio? Not sure what others think, but I felt the atmosphere from the saints fans was brilliant. thought our fans were great.sounded more like we were playing at home as i only recall hearing boscombe once or twice.
Deppo Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Adkins: "Our support is magnificent. The length and breadth of the country our supporters come out, and they get behind the players." Does he know how close Bournemouth is? I mean, it's a local derby, isn't it?
doddisalegend Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Sounded like we made hard work of it but we won, at least we know what the saints style in now rubbish first half and good second half. Just wish other teams would stop winning I know we've games in hand but one slip up could be so costly now with all the teams around us in such good form.
70's Mike Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Adkins: "Our support is magnificent. The length and breadth of the country our supporters come out, and they get behind the players." LostBoys Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 (edited) Well I hope this puts an end to this bitter rivalry crap. I have always looked for Bournemouths result after ours and I hope they continue to do well and get promoted. I have to say even motormouth Mitchell was impressive in his pre match comments after the usual inane questions from the Solent presenter. Also a mention for Lee Bradbury who I always liked as a player - Pompey or no - none of the bitter crap after the game you always got from his miserable (but successful) predecessor. Edited 12 March, 2011 by LostBoys
Ohio Saint Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Saints support was fantastic. When we scored I thought Bompey scored. Had to wait for the dumbo commentary to catch up with the verbal excitement. GREAT job by the Saints fans!!
Saint_clark Posted 12 March, 2011 Author Posted 12 March, 2011 Jaidi races to join in the celebrations... http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/Gallery/0,,10280~2314445,00.html But what happened to him in the next pic?
LGTL Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 What a day. We took over the place, totally outsung them and then watched them totally outplay them nobodies. I'm off to get more ****ed.

Great result and sounded very vocal, was trying to work out if there was a new song being sung by the Saints fans??????
LostBoys Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 (edited) Anyway this result is just not good enough - I had Saints to win 2 nil not 3 1 - this has cost me 5 points in the prediction league just as I was making an assault on the top 10. Edited 12 March, 2011 by LostBoys
Whitey Grandad Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Just enjoying my celebratory pint of Hobgoblin after a very cold afternoon sitting in the Bournemouth end behind the goal. It's a very strange experience sitting amongst the opposition and watching your team get a very impressive win. I must admit to a wry smile when the Saints' fans pointed at us and sang 'you're only here to watch Southampton'. Everyone around us seemed to be solid Bournemouth fans and it felt a bit like that part in The Great Escape where the British lads are trying not to say anything that might give them away. I wasn't too worried for their goal because I saw the flag go up straight away, and I thought it had come to him off one of their players. Lambert's free kick was fantastic, all that I saw was the ball hitting the back of the net. Well done Saints' fans, interesting to see us from the other side.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Absolutely cracking away day! Great atmosphere, good display in the end and an absolutely cracking result. "WE ARE SOUTHAMPTON, WE DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU!" Watch out on football league show for special feature on Bawnmuff v Saints. First half, Hammond & Chaplow were nowhere to be seen. Second half, they bossed the game. Great turnaround. Delighted. No voice and ****ed as a fart.
Deppo Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 LOL at Jaidi: The best photos are the series for Barnard's goal, where the ball is clearly in Jalal's hands in the first photo. And then...
markr27 Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Brilliant day down there... we were one once more as an away support! On the travel bus back Barnard just sneaked MoTM but only by a single vote from Lallana, Lambert and Fonte. Did anyone else see the ballboy getting a bullocking for his gesture as he walked past the fans... classic.
Toomer Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 The best photos are the series for Barnard's goal, where the ball is clearly in Jalal's hands in the first photo. And then... That should have been a straight forward stop by the looks of it, not that I'm bothered.
scotty Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Just got in from work. I hope the sprinter is soundproof fantastic result, and particularly chuffed that Rickie stuck away a free kick, thats been looming and what a day to do it. Top marks all round imho, especially the saints fans, we had solent on in the van and could barely hear the bornmuff support.

Ohio Saint Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Strangely enough, I'm just getting happier as my day progresses!!!
Nexstar Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 I now firmly believe we can get out of this division And here's a better view of what Jaidi did! http://yfrog.com/b6rjgz
markr27 Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Was it the two fingered salute or the hand shuffle. The latter Toomer, I couldn't think of a harmless description at the time of posting! Don't think he'll be selected for the next game...
up and away Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Previously if we had started games like this, we would not have come out with a win. I can't really say we are on form but for flashs, but we have enough about us now to get results out of games like this. When we played them at home we totally dominated, this was not the case today and they had a very well worked plan of how to get at us down the wings. We did enough in midfield to gain some control, but most importantly our strikers did the business. I still can't believe that is Ricky's first decent goal from a free kick, I just took it for granted last season, that tells a story alone. Bournemouth have done brilliantly to be where they are, but I fully expect a slide from them, hopefully they will make the play offs. I always thought our goal difference was worth a point, but the way Peterborough are going I would not put money on it. We need to buck up our form or Peterborough need to lose theirs, otherwise it's the play offs.
Fan The Flames Posted 12 March, 2011 Posted 12 March, 2011 Great result in the Once in a Blue Moon Derby, puts us in a good position, but the pressure is immense every one keeps winning. Look how far Chalrton have dropped as a result of a bad run.
