Seaford Saint Posted 9 March, 2011 Posted 9 March, 2011 (edited) Team...I have a request. Last year I hosted a couple of lads from Chernobyl and I have just agreed to do the same this year. It remains one of the most rewarding things we have ever done. The kids came with next to nothing not even a change of clothes and they each left 3 weeks later with holdalls containing some new clothes, some donated clothes, new shoes, new trainers a football. After a few weeks of good clean air, lots of fun, McDonalds and Pizza Hut, cinema etc etc the kids health and energy levels visibly improved. I took my 2 boys to watch a Saints A team....play Basingstoke. I wondered whether any of you have any surplus kids clothes that you might donate. The kids are all aged 10 to 11 and I would happily pass on any girls clothing to other hosts. I dread to think of the clothes my 2 kids have got through that could have gone to kids like these. Most of my kids surplus clothes look like they haven't been worn, and maybe its the same for yours. Obviously I am down watching Saints whenever they are at home and I will happily make a detour to collect any clothes you have. Thanks Edited 9 March, 2011 by Baj Made a sticky post
Special K Posted 9 March, 2011 Posted 9 March, 2011 Cracking idea fella. We often donate clothes that the nippers have grown out of to various charity shops, although i'm not in charge of it myself, like (Mrs K's role). But i'll have a gander at home and see if there is anything i can muster.
Truesaint Posted 9 March, 2011 Posted 9 March, 2011 Have done this myself about 5 times. I even went out to Belarus a few years ago to see the kids and it was very humbling and a real eye opener. Most amazing thing i have ever done and the difference you can make to these kids is incredable. We know have 4 good saints fans growing up in Belarus after them attending games. We even hung around before the games and met the players and i must admit they were all superb towards the boys and truly made their days. they felt like they were meeting true superstars. Really recomend that people support you in this cause.

If I knew who to ask to make this thread a sticky, I would ask them. I will buy my 2 kids Saints shirts this time round. Edited 9 March, 2011 by Seaford Saint bad grammar :)
Sergei Gotsmanov Posted 9 March, 2011 Posted 9 March, 2011 Why don't you speak to the club and get them to organise something for all of those that come over.
Truesaint Posted 10 March, 2011 Posted 10 March, 2011 The club have shown groups of the kids around before and its good publicity for them. Its ideal to give away old shirts etc to them too. Believe me when i say that these kids really see coming to a match as something special. One lad i got on really well with and even paid to bring him back a few times absolutly loved it. He was running round collecting autographs and getting photos taken like it was Christmas and Birthday rolled into one! It means a hell of a lot that there are now supporters and a little bit of Southampton in Belarus. It has given these kids experiences that some of ours take for granted.
Truesaint Posted 10 March, 2011 Posted 10 March, 2011 Obviously 'Minsk' is also another Saints fan in Belarus. There must be a few there now!
Seaford Saint Posted 10 March, 2011 Author Posted 10 March, 2011 The kids are here for the last 3 weeks in July and last year Saints were on a pre season tour in Europe
Rattlehead Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Obviously 'Minsk' is also another Saints fan in Belarus. There must be a few there now! I met Minsk on the way to Chernobyl. True story. Minsk is a top bloke.

Minsk Posted 17 March, 2011 Posted 17 March, 2011 Obviously 'Minsk' is also another Saints fan in Belarus. There must be a few there now! I have been trying to convert as many as possible. Obviously my wife and daughter are another two, especially the latter who has been to SMS with me a few times. (She is 6, was born here and always lived here, so not bad going.)

If any of you ever do want to come over let me know and I will help with arrangements: letters of invitation; advice on/help with booking accomodation; how to get here; transport within Belarus; etc. Of course, I would also love to meet you guys if you do come over. I met rattlehead upon his arrival, took him to his hotel, showed him around, etc. Would be happy to do the same for any other Saints who come over here.
