SaintNeil90 Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 Is the conversation on Solent. All commentators said it is a disgrace that all we have done is wear black armbands at Walsall and given him a few paragraphs in the programme. thoughts?
Smirking_Saint Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 Out of interest ? What were we expected to do ??
SaintNeil90 Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 Bradford had a minutes applause. Wolves had a big tribute before the game. Could have had a minutes applause or silence.
sfc4prem Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 Minutes silence was deserved at least? Nothing of great importance but it is a bit odd.
thegaffer Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 Who's decision would it have been to have a tribute at tonights game?
latter day saint Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 Minutes applause would have been good i think
Smirking_Saint Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 Ahh, yeah i suppose my bad. I assumed wrongly that we would have done that at Walsall, so yeah, i suppose we should have had some sort of minutes silence.
chrisobee Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 I certainly expected a minutes silence ( at least) tonight. Poor decision to do nothing tonight TBH
CanadaSaint Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 I'm sorry to hear that and it's hard not to view it as a continuation of the disregard for the past. It wasn't much to ask that we did something to honour him appropriately, and I'm afraid the club is not doing itself any favours with this.
Fan The Flames Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 The club were involved in the tributes at Wolves on Sunday.
Hatch Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 The club were involved in the tributes at Wolves on Sunday. fair enough, but the supporters weren't.
SaintNeil90 Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 The club were involved in the tributes at Wolves on Sunday. So were Bradford and they still had a minutes applause tonight. Will be interesting to see if Spurs do anything tomorrow.
La BoIS Saint Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 Did you really expect anything else the way the club is run?
Coastal Saint Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 As far as I remember the club said a few years ago that all losses would be recognised on All Saints Day. Solent were not worried about lack of respect for Deano they were wetting themselves at the chance to have another go at the club!!
Golden Balls Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 Don't we also have an 'All Saints Day' every year to honor those who have passed?
hypochondriac Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 I'm sorry to hear that and it's hard not to view it as a continuation of the disregard for the past. Toomer Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 Dean Richards was player of the season some ten years ago and a great servant to the club, we got him on a free from Wolves and sold him to Spurs. We should have done something the Shef Weds game will be to late, I am ****ed off with the way the history of the club has been consigned to the bin.
JustMike Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 Did you really expect anything else the way the club is run? and just how is the club run? This is why we have the "all saints day" once a year, to remember all connected with saints that have passed away
Legod Third Coming Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 I think this is amazingly disrespectful.
NickG Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 surprised, disappointed but not major issue as club involved previously with tributes and fans had their say. Not going to bring the good man back
Saint137 Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 So, if we have All Saints Day, why did we bother with a tribute for Markus? How difficult is it for us to wear armbands and have a minutes' applause? ****ing disgrace, this is not the Saints I grew up loving. Pleased that at least the Northam got something going a couple of times in the game but its **** all tribute to a past player of the season.
Legod Third Coming Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 surprised, disappointed but not major issue as club involved previously with tributes and fans had their say. Not going to bring the good man back It is disappointing Nick and I hope that those who run our club don't confuse success, leadership and forward-looking with disrespect of the past. After all, the Nazis were visionary... One of the things that has always made me proud to be a Saints fan is that the provincial nature of our club gave it heart. However 'big' we become, we have always had, to my mind, a big heart. And we mustn't let success and revenue dwarf that heart. A lot of fans are shaken by Deano's death - he was a young man, footballer or not, and he is a stark reminder of the fragility of human life. We want to show our respect and the only way we can is at our games - not Wolves' games or Spurs' games or Bradford's.
liebherr driver Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 I seldom post, but view the forum daily and have done since SF days. I would question however the effort required by the club to give a faithful servant of the club a minutes silence prior to tonights game regardless of others clubs efforts last weekend.
ringwood Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 As far as I remember the club said a few years ago that all losses would be recognised on All Saints Day. Solent were not worried about lack of respect for Deano they were wetting themselves at the chance to have another go at the club!! This^ actually texted in to say that during the show but All Saints day didn't get a mention.
maysie Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 A little mention in the report on the OS: Chaplow then won a corner which Aaron Martin nodded wide to rouse the crowd into action. The effort, one that former Saint Dean Richards would have appreciated, as fittingly, the central defender's name rang around the stadium, with the home faithful paying their respects to the former wholehearted centre half who sadly passed away ten days previously. Saint137 Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 I emailed them on Monday morning but got no response (and usually they're very quick to respond) so I feared the worst. Whoever made this decision should pop up to Bradford and explain it to Deano's wife and kids. Given what happened to Markus we of all clubs should understand the fragility of life.
Mowgli Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 Deano was a great player. I was surprised and disappointed there was nothing tonight. Sheff Wed will not be too late to do something. Maybe terming it a disgrace is a bit dramatic.
benjii Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 We were represented at the tribute at Wolves, we had an article on our website, we wore armbands at Walsall apparently. Maybe the club felt that we had paid our respects and that generating a sombre atmosphere at the start of the game was not necessary. Everyone will have their views but I don't think people should feel brow-beaten into endles public displays of maudlin self-gratification.
benjii Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 Who's decision would it have been to have a tribute at tonights game? Shabby It wasn't me.
Tomobz Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 ****es me off a treat. if we didn't start those chants from the back of 37 nothing at all would have been done, said to remember a past great. disrespectful and totally out of line

Solent were not worried about lack of respect for Deano they were wetting themselves at the chance to have another go at the club!! I think each case needs to be looked at individually, and I think this case warranted it's own minutes applause/silence, bearing he was our Player of the Year little over 10 years ago.
benjii Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 By the way, I agree he was very good for us but let's not pretend he is Ted Bates or Matt Le Tiss. He had what, two seasons?
Jesus Reigned Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 Who's decision would it have been to have a tribute at tonights game? Shabby It wasn't me. Like it!
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 By the way, I agree he was very good for us but let's not pretend he is Ted Bates or Matt Le Tiss. He had what, two seasons? This. A tragedy nonetheless.

Everyone will have their views but I don't think people should feel brow-beaten into endles public displays of maudlin self-gratification. I get what you're saying completely. But it really is the tradition these days, and a minutes applause for a very good saints player servant that the vast majority of the crowd would have seen play (this isn't Albert Hebblethwaite, inside forward from 1952, we're talking about) would have been no bother and worthwhile. There is a regime of pig headed contrariness at the heart of the club and it is rather tiresome.
Deppo Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 ****es me off a treat. if we didn't start those chants from the back of 37 nothing at all would have been done, said to remember a past great. disrespectful and totally out of line It's a good job that you were all there starting those chants at the back of 37 to make up for the lack of tribute by the club. Good on you guys, you should be really proud of yourselves. You did the fans proud doing that. Did you organise it all beforehand? Hats off to whoever organised it. Good man. You've got even more right than everyone else to be p*ssed off, IMO, as you were starting those chants.
Deppo Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 "Past great"? Seriously? Totally disrespectful. I bet you weren't starting any chants at the back of 37?
Tomobz Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 "Past great"? Seriously? only because he was injured so much. shearer didn't play much for us but i bet you would class him as a past great? richards was class, he was an ex saint, and he passed away tragically at a young age. we should have remembered him in some way today but didn't. it isn't right and is disrespectful. let's not get into a debate about how good a football player he was please. pathetic

Deppo Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 I can't believe this! Especially after the fans went to all that trouble to start those chants at the back of 37. This is a terrible club.
Deppo Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 But it really is the tradition these days Exactly. It's not about the actual paying of respects. It's about the tradition. It's tradition to have a minute's silence. This club has no respect for tradition.

A great player but not a Saints great. You were the one who referred to him as a "great". Not me. We have remembered him in several ways already. You remembered him with your song. What's the big deal?
SuperMikey Posted 8 March, 2011 Posted 8 March, 2011 I can't believe this! Especially after the fans went to all that trouble to start those chants at the back of 37. This is a terrible club. It was 38 actually, but thanks anyway. I agree that we could maybe have had a minute's applause or silence, but we have been very actively involved in paying tribute to Deano along with his other clubs.
