Deppo Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Not good enough. We should have got at least 4 points from that match.
Window Cleaner Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Good result although we needed it just to keep pace. Bournemouth are holding up better than anyone expected I think.
S-Clarke Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Really good result. Colchester is a tough place to go for any team. Bournemouth and P'Boro have lost there this season, and their home record is usually top notch. It was a completely professional display and we now have a massive chance on Tuesday night.
Saintandy666 Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 If we can win on tuesday against Yoevil and then again against Bournemouth come saturday, things may be looking very tasty indeed.
Toomer Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 We needed that today, would be nice if we could go on an unbeaten run till the end of the season.
bjk Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Great win, defeat today would have been disastrous.Well done boys.
sad saints fan Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Not good enough. We should have got at least 4 points from that match. No No No ,Tuesday was the way to go ,play well but no points:)
opthomps Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 needed. beat yeovil and we keep our two points per game needed tally up, and we can forget about the walsall disaster. thats if we beat yeovil.
View From The Top Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Full expected a win at Walsall and a loss today! Delighted today as I was pizzed off on Tuesday.
S-Clarke Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 alpine_saint is offline A game which will leave our 2nd place aspirations in tatters, considering the other games on Saturday. Lose. Hmm.
Mowgli Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 A real bonus. I was not expecting that. I think a win Tuesday is well on the cards. Would settle for as draw at Bournemouth if I'm honest.
Bailey Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Had a feeling we'd win it, and delighted that we did. A tricky place to go, and with results elsewhere going against us, we almost had to win to keep pace with the teams at the top. Full credit to the players though, a good response following Tuesday's disappointment. Another win against Yeovil and then things will be looking very good heading into the Bournemouth match.
Faz Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Tuesday, 8 March 2011 Brentford v Brighton, 19:45 Carlisle v Hartlepool, 19:45 Dag & Red v Colchester, 19:45 Exeter v Bournemouth, 19:45 Huddersfield v Rochdale, 19:45 MK Dons v Charlton, 19:45 Notts County v Peterborough, 19:45 Oldham v Sheff Wed, 19:45 Plymouth v Swindon, 19:45 Southampton v Yeovil, 19:45 Tranmere v Bristol Rovers, 19:45 Walsall v Leyton Orient, 19:45 I expect us to be in a strionger position after Tuesday. If we then beat Bompey.................
S-Clarke Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 A real bonus. I was not expecting that. I think a win Tuesday is well on the cards. Would settle for as draw at Bournemouth if I'm honest. A draw at Bompey would be a good result - takes points off them at the end of the day and we'd still have our games in hand.
maysie Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 alpine_saint is offline Hmm. The guy really is a n0bhead
thorpie the sinner Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 My reverse psychology worked beautifully today, very professional by all accounts! If only brighton wouldnt keep scoring in 93rd min and bompey keep winning!!!!
aintforever Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Great win, another one on Tuesday could be the turning point with all the others having tricky fixtures.
hypochondriac Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 (edited) Good win and it was vital. Have to work on out consistency now and I think our season will be defined by next weeks game. IMO we are playing for second now. Edited 5 March, 2011 by Saint_clark Deleted the insult
Pugwash Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Good win. Nice to hear Aaron Martin was solid when he came on.

IMO we are playing for second now. We've been playing for 2nd for a few weeks tbh. I think we'll get there in the end. Edited 5 March, 2011 by Saint_clark
hypochondriac Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 We've been playing for 2nd for a few weeks tbh. I think we'll get there in the end. Had we won Tuesday then we were still in with a chance. Not any more.
hypochondriac Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Good win. Nice to hear Aaron Martin was solid when he came on. I really hope he gets to play a bit more. I rate him as much better than seaborne.
S-Clarke Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 What was the red card for? Deserved? From what I heard it sounded like he ran over to Butterfield, raised hands and pushed him.
Barry the Badger Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 A draw at Bompey would be a good result - takes points off them at the end of the day and we'd still have our games in hand. You do realise our games in hand would only take us level and thats assuming we win them both? Good win today, really pleased. Have to say I'm impressed with Bournemouth. Fair play to them with a squad put together with nothing. I hope that after we beat them to 2nd they get their promotion via the playoffs.
hypochondriac Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Still a bit concerning that we only started to play well when Colchester went to ten men. I really want to see us play really well against a full strength side and run out comfortable winners, sort of how Huddersfield did when they played us.
Alain Perrin Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Personally I think the wheels will come off at Bournmouth at some point. Perhaps next week? Fiar play to Brighton though, they keep digging out results. I am hopeful that the depth of our squad (which may not be fantastic but it is better than most in League 1) will pay off as we approach the tail end of the season.
saint lard Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 We won,we got 3 points,i am happy with that. No more,no less.

Fair play to them with a squad put together with nothing. I hope that after we beat them to 2nd they get their promotion via the playoffs. But if we take points off Bournemouth in the game there, then we'd go a few points above them ''If'' we win our games in hand.
Victor Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Great win, another one on Tuesday could be the turning point with all the others having tricky fixtures. What have we come to - beating the 10 men of the mighty Colchester is a 'great win'! And on a day when those other collosseseses of the football league Brighton , Bournemouth, Hartlepool and Peterborough have all outscored us, against 11 men. If only we had the vast resources and crowds that those teams have. We can but dream.
dune Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Had we won Tuesday then we were still in with a chance. Not any more. How pathetic.
Window Cleaner Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 But if we take points off Bournemouth in the game there, then we'd go a few points above them ''If'' we win our games in hand. If we take 3 points from them yes but only under that circumstance.Although our GD is bound to be better if we win our 2 games in hand to go level with them. In any case I think we'll have to wait and see what next Saturday brings as Bournemouth are unbeaten in 10 games and have taken 22 points from them. Perhaps Howe was holding them back.
John B Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Still a bit concerning that we only started to play well when Colchester went to ten men. I really want to see us play really well against a full strength side and run out comfortable winners, sort of how Huddersfield did when they played us. We just need to win how we do it does not matter 1 0 every game is OK by me
hypochondriac Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 How pathetic. Not really. I genuinely don't think we have a chance of catching Brighton. They are running away with it and we have by far the harder run in. Why the insults dune?
Thedelldays Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 What have we come to - beating the 10 men of the mighty Colchester is a 'great win'! maysie Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Had we won Tuesday then we were still in with a chance. Not any more. To say we have no chance, is pretty defeatist. I'm not saying we're do it, but we obviously have a chance.
Thedelldays Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 We won,we got 3 points,i am happy with that. No more,no less. so, if we had lost would it have been..the same sort of "nothing" reaction from you..?
St Marco Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 A great win there for us. With all the other results going against us was vital to win. Sure we didn't play to our best and we had a lot of luck but a win is a win no matter how you get it! We now have a home game which i think we will win and i think some of the teams above us playing on tues will drop points. Meaning by this time next week we could be back into the top 2. Got to keep believing! COYR
hypochondriac Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 We just need to win how we do it does not matter 1 0 every game is OK by me I agree but performances give an indication of future performances. It would be good to get a really cracking morale boosting win and performance so we can kick on and turn those disappointing away results into draws and wins.
Window Cleaner Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 To say we have no chance, is pretty defeatist. I'm not saying we're do it, but we obviously have a chance. Of course we have every chance but it passes by beating Bournemouth...then again it always did.
dune Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Not really. I genuinely don't think we have a chance of catching Brighton. They are running away with it and we have by far the harder run in. Why the insults dune? 2nd is completly in our reach, and we're clearly in very good position to achieve it.
hypochondriac Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 2nd is completly in our reach, and we're clearly in very good position to achieve it. I never said it wasn't. If you read my original post I was talking about catching Brighton,
dune Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 so, if we had lost would it have been..the same sort of "nothing" reaction from you..? Don't be daft. If we'd lost this thread would have been dominated by alpine and chums crowing.
.comsaint Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 We struggled to get going today and were under a lot of early pressure. Just as I was starting to think this was going to be another no-show from the Saints - they had a sending-off and we go 1-0 up almost straight away! Adkins sent them out for the 2nd half fired-up and on 50mins, my sphincter-twitching eased with that second goal. Listening to the game - it sounded like we might score a third the way we were playing. In the end though, a 2-0 win away at a tough place like Colchester was just what the doctor ordered. Everyone at the top won (bar Huddersfield), so it was vital that we stayed in touch with the rest of the chasing pack. There is no stopping Brighton. They have this division sewn-up this season and good luck to them (*spit). 2nd spot is our prime aim of course - so if we can beat Yeovil at home on tuesday night & hope that Exeter can do us some kind of favour at home to the Cherries the same night - next saturday will be electric along the coast in our game at Bournemouth! As always with Saints though; it depends on which team will turn up on the day! Well done today though lads. can't ask for more than 3 points at a place like Colchester. Makes the weekend sweet!
Cabrone Posted 5 March, 2011 Posted 5 March, 2011 Relieved at getting a result at a tricky place like Colchester esp as most of those around us won. Still confident that we'll catch Bournemouth as our 2 games in hand are both home games. Brighton are looking more remote but they still have some tough games + they must play us so it's very much still all to play for. Maybe the stinging sensation that was Tuesday night has sunk through to the players and we'll be a lot mentally tougher from here on in. No more headless chicken displays please guys.
