miserableoldgit Posted 4 March, 2011 Share Posted 4 March, 2011 Although they were a P*rtsmouth band, I used to really enjoy Simon Dupree and the Big Sound. Before they hit the big time with "Kites", and morphed into Gentle Giant when "progressive" music took hold, they were damn good live band doing driven soul-type music. I saw them at the old Concorde Club at the Bassett Hotel a couple of times and just recently bought their first album "Without Reservations" on CD. Dimond Geezer Posted 4 March, 2011 Share Posted 4 March, 2011 Peter Pod & the Peas. In the late 80's they once supported the Glitter Band (without the kiddie fiddler) at the Railway Institute in Eastliegh. PP&TP played their bit, then everyone left. The Glitter Band played too about 20 people. I was with about 10 of them & we only stayed because the beer was cheap.

Dimond Geezer Posted 5 March, 2011 Share Posted 5 March, 2011 Thunderclap Newman, weren't they from Hampshire somewhere? I don't think so, Andy "Thunderclap" Newman, was from Hounslow, Jimmy McCullogh was from Glaswow, John Keen from Ealing & Bijou Drains (aka Pete Townshend) was from Chiswick. Something In the Air - what a great single that was! Their album (produced by Pete Townshend) was great, too.
