Ultras

I was in Milan for that match a couple of years ago but didn't fancy paying €200 for a ticket which might not have got me in to the match. Is it usually a safe enough bet then?

200 euros, phew, i have never paid more than a 100 per ticket from a tout, which gets me into curve norde with the ultras with their fireworks, flares, noise, weed, brew etc.....pure chaos

as before, i have never not managed to get into an inter milan game at san siro

Have a good look at some of these Ultras groups, they're usually full of lads, a real 18-30s holiday! No kids, women or wimpy looking teenagers and when you look at some of the grounds it's all around the stadium. I'd say those days are long gone in this country, it's now all families and sanitised facilities, there's just not enough like-minded people to really get it going.

I'd love to see SMS crackling and bouncing but there's not a ground in this country that comes anywhere near many on the continent for fervent support..

I was only asking people's views on it! Our support wouldn't accept that type of thing anyway.

This is what you need though. Somebody to start it all off. If you got a decent group together and moved to the chapel, gradually people would see there was an atmosphere up there and might move over, in the same way as happened with block 1.

Certainly speaking for myself, if I felt there was a better atmosphere somewhere else I would move. You will never get everybody to move on mass though it would have to be a gradual thing and you may need to be patient for the first season at least.

That said, I suggest your best bet for this to happen may when the club eventually reopens blocks 1-3 and try to position it there?

Depends.

I've been a few Rome derby's and the atmosphere is nuts and I'm off to the Milan derby next month, which is also a quality event.

I've also been to quite a few "normal" Italian games and they atmosphere can be a bit flat just in the same way that average EPL games can be

Neither the Milan or Rome derbies, IMHO, come close to the poisonous, evil, hate filled bile that makes us v skate bas**rds so good.

aaaah... cheers

have to say, the saints v pompey game in the cup last season was one of the best atmospheres I have been in....when rickie scored, the sheer out pour of everything was superb..just such a shame we got beat..

the next time we beat them...when ever that is will be something special

Thanks for that, I was getting a bit ****ed off with the fantasy view of foreign footie. This isn't to disparage anybody who goes to these games, but they will tend to go to decent matches: derbys or European ties. Let me repeat some stuff from my previous post which everybody ignored: we probably get a higher average gate than half the serie A teams (Chievo Verona - I ask you!). If anyone is prepared to do the research to actually prove me wrong they're welcome to do it. As for Italian second division teams: you are having a laugh. Papa Waigo is now lucky to play in front of 6000. Third division - and guys, remember, that's where we are... they probably get fewer than when Maidenhead United used to play Slough Town. There are loads of empty seats at Italian serie A matches.

I'm not against a manic core of noisy supporters, and I've been pretty noisy myself at away matches over the years, but anyone who thinks it's great to havy 200 nutters in a group and three fairly empty stands or think it's clever to drop a scooter on the tier below needs to reconsider.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've read that Sheff Wed have got a new 'Ultras' thing going on...maybe interesting to see next Saturday. Their away support is usually excellent anyway but I think it's more aimed at getting some atmosphere at Hillsboro' where, apparantly, it's sh*te...guess when you've only got 15k rattling around a 40k stadium it's gonna be a morgue.

This.

I don't think it would be that hard to organise. You need 2 or 3 people who are willing to put the effort in to get a group together. Maybe fans off this board? Decide a place to sit (well, stand) and go for it. Getting a group of 50 people together for this reason wouldnt be that hard. I think you're right that when block 1-3 opens that would be a good place to start.

When getting the group together it should be made clear that it is NOT a firm. Meet up in a specific pub (maybe get the landlord on board and explain it) and get (new) songs going in there.

Like I say, you just need to get a few people to put the time and effort in to organise it. Once it gets going, people will follow.
