Forgotten password

Daughter has forgotten her password to access her laptop.

 

Just took it down the local PC repair shop and they wanted £25!!! to reset it.

 

Surely there must be a better / cheaper alternative to this

you could try pressing F8 when the computer first goes past its initial boot screen (the one where you usually get a manufacturer logo E.G Dell) - choose safe mode. That might give you the option to log in as administrator (if admin has no password set) - then you can change her password in there ?
