Thedelldays Posted 27 February, 2011 Share Posted 27 February, 2011 Is Adkins good enough to get out of this league? Let me think? I am utterly bemused at some if our fans.. Barry the Badger Posted 27 February, 2011 Share Posted 27 February, 2011 Come on Adkins, 3-1 up at home & all the men are back for one of their corners............. And what would you be saying if we had conceded from one of their corners because we left men upfield? Come on Adkins, why leave men upfield looking for another goal when we are two goals up. NickG Posted 27 February, 2011 Share Posted 27 February, 2011 and if those first 6 games had achieved Adkins' level return (his consistent 2 points per game =12 points) instead of the 4 points we did get, we could currently be 1 point clear of Brighton. This season's frustrations are all about those first 6 games, imho, and think its harsh to criticise Adkins.

corky morris Posted 27 February, 2011 Share Posted 27 February, 2011 Yeh, why the Hell should we be defending a 2 goal lead at home? Playing in such a manner there is no way we could go on to win 4-1 is there? .........Oh! What a stupid remark. Because if you have no-one up field the ball is just flung back into our box causing more problems.............It also allows them to leave just 1 person on the centre line not 2. I reckon some people on here are abso****inglutely clueless!!!! Most managers think it is a very narrow minded defensive ploy that simply does not work........AOC did well whilst blocking the shot at Peterboro didnt he?????!!!!! .........Oh!!! Windmill Arm 2 Posted 27 February, 2011 Share Posted 27 February, 2011 1. After 6 nights in a comfortable hotel, 90 minutes on the pitch shouldn't be hardship for professional footballers. Those of us who have played the game, or still are playing, have turned out in local football in conditions far worse than tonight at Hartlepool. 2. When interviewed, Nigel almost suffers from verbal diarrhoea, constantly repeating 4 or 5 phrases. I hope he does better than that when he's talking to the players. 3. What I would have liked him to do would have been to persuade the chairman to strengthen the team in Jan with one or two first choice better players, not just add squad players, but what I'd like him to do now is play the best eleven, which should include Schneiderlin and not include Guly. 4.So Nigel has got a team out of L1 twice before. And where is he now? Back in L1 because no higher placed club have gone for him, and where is his last club now? About to be relegated. You know less about this league and football in general than Nigel Adkins, you sound ridiculous and purile, leave the management to the manager eh, you're embarrassing yourself. Minsk Posted 28 February, 2011 Share Posted 28 February, 2011 What a stupid remark. Because if you have no-one up field the ball is just flung back into our box causing more problems.............It also allows them to leave just 1 person on the centre line not 2. - I actually agree with leaving someone up at corners, in the right circumstances. I remember seeing, on numerous occasions, both Danny and Rod Wallace scoring goals from such occasions. When you a very short and fast forward he is certainly better employed in this role. Also, it is a good ploy when the game is level or being chased. However, IMO, when 2 goals up at home it is best to defend the lead. I guarantee you that had we left players up for their corner and they had scored there would have been serious *****ing about it on here. Most managers think it is a very narrow minded defensive ploy that simply does not work........AOC did well whilst blocking the shot at Peterboro didnt he?????!!!!! - I agree, AOC cost us 2 points that day!! Maybe he should never be allowed in our own penalty area? Was that shot from a corner though??????? I reckon some people on here are abso****inglutely clueless!!!! - I fully agree with this statement, and the obvious example is when people start *****ing about the manager immediately after he has delivered a win by a healthy (ie 3 goal) margin!!!! .........Oh!!! See above.

My god - some times I worry about our fans footballing knowledge???? Oh I see. Pompous at all? So somebody who disagrees with you has limited footballing knowledge, including Nigel Adkins. Glad we cleared that one up. I can see the reasoning behind the argument that if you leave a couple up that's a couple less players they can send into our box, but when they're 2 down they will probably just send those players anyway. I'm not saying I think we should always bring everybody back but at that particular time in that particular game I think it was the right thing to do to defend the set piece as heavily as possible as we tried to completely shut up shop at 3-1 up. benjii Posted 28 February, 2011 Share Posted 28 February, 2011 Adkins has been put under more pressure since we kept our young talented players in the transfer window,no doubt with the promise of good times to come. The last two home matches have seen him looking a very worried man, only after the two quick goals did the colour come back to his cheeks yesterday. I still think that ,even if we go up,a name would have inspired more faith in players and fans. Has he the respect of the senior men,who have seen many differing styles of management? If his interviews are replicated in training directions I worry. If he is using the naughty step for players that find his style uninspiring he needs to up the volume and get us out of this league pronto. The players are good enough is he? Jesus Christ. If he is coming to training dressed in a French maid's outfit and smeared in Nutella I would worry but I'd say it's pretty ****ing unlikely. Well, Mr Windmill Arm, it gives me no pleasure to say that the Walsall result was even worse than at Hartlepool. I give Adkins credit for starting with Morgan tonight and it was very bad luck that he was injured so early in the game, but one player should not make that much difference if our squad was really as good as people say, against a struggling L1 side. I am not convinced by Adkins and I don't look forward at all to reading the excuses.

S-Clarke Posted 1 March, 2011 Share Posted 1 March, 2011 I think at the time it was the wrong decision to get rid of Pardew, but then again - we don't really know what happened, it may have been a situation that gave Cortese no choice and it's totally derailed our season. If we don't go up it's down to our start, not Adkins. If we performed over the course of the season as we have since Adkins has been ''in the building'', we would have been much closer to Brighton. I don't think the blame can be labelled at his door in total, some of it - yes...but not all of it.
St Marco Posted 1 March, 2011 Share Posted 1 March, 2011 As i said in the match thread his points per game ratio is good compared to last seasons table but this year there are a lot less big teams. How would his team do against Norwich,Millwall and Leeds? I don't think we would do so well. Where as last year we got results against all of the big teams. Adkins job was to come in and take this club up. Based on the last 8 games we have just 1 point a game average. We won't go up unless we improve. It is his job to make that happen. My other concern is that is now his 8th game in charge where we have not scored. That is basically 1 in 3 games we don't score. The 2nd highest fail to score rate in the league. With the midfielders and strikers we have that shouldn't be happening. I support the guy 100% but we have to go up this year as there are no excuses at all. He has a great team, bought in his own players, kept our star players, haven't had many injuries and so on. Some games you can't win by just turning up, you have to out think your opponent, change things with tactics to get the result. As of yet i seriously wonder if he can do that. Deppo Posted 1 March, 2011 Share Posted 1 March, 2011 We need a serious rebuilding programme. Adkins should be sacked immediately and the new man should plan for next season in L1. We need to get rid of the dead wood and take into account some players will leave. Chambo and Lallana and Lambert and Fonte will go. We get rid of dead wood like Spiderman, Guly, Dickinson, Jaidi, Butterfield, Hammond and Davis and build again. IMHO.

He hasn't been, but for an interesting view point he thought we'd look at our form after that game - seeing as the Mk Don's match is an unfair one to put on him anyway, it was still a Wlkins team and Wilkins selected the 11. miserableoldgit Posted 2 March, 2011 Share Posted 2 March, 2011 I must say that for the first time in a while I am feeling quite depressed after last nights result. The fact that Cherries (who lost their top scorer, highly rated manager and have a very small squad) and Seagulls seem to be able to keep on getting results, home and away whilst we seem unable to avoid banana skins like Walsall and Tranmere is frustrating to say the least. I still have a lot of faith in Adkins. I don`t think that only 2 wins in the first 8 games of the season have helped him, but will have to be more consistant somehow. Whatever reason Pardew was asked to leave ..left the opening for a good Manager/coach... I am from the school of thought that the Chairman relied too heavily on our failed Director of Football... We have missed a transfer window and Nigel does not appear to be getting the best from the squad..His hands may have been tied? All those who said this manager was the right man...total football with width and flair....Dutch masters would have made a better fist with this squad..... Not impressed at all .. Window Cleaner Posted 2 March, 2011 Share Posted 2 March, 2011 The only thing that NA hasn't been able to do is acquire a clinical striker. It's been our problem for the entire season.True we've scored a lot of goals on occasions but we've always been missing that one thing when the going has got tough.Lambert isn't the sort of bloke who's going to pick up a ball 40 yards out,run with it and slot it past the keeper from 18 yards(remember Channon people?) neither is Barnard. They aren't the sort of Gyan or Torres strikers either who are just going to connect effortlessly with a ball drifting about in the 18 yard box and drill it inside the post or under the bar. We've needed a clinical striker all season, starting with the first game. Toomer Posted 2 March, 2011 Share Posted 2 March, 2011 Adkins was brought in to take us up, he spoke of winning this league on a number of occasions (which we won't now) we might just get 2nd spot but we may just have to make do with the lottery of the play offs. I have said on this thread that if we don't go up (heaven forbid) NC will get rid and I still think that is the case and part of me thinks the job is just a little to big for Adkins. My next comment I think I will get dogs abuse for. He'll take us to the premier league Rickie, sorry to dissapoint he won't league one, lower championship is his level and that is not just my opinion it is the opinion of people who have watching Saints for the best part of 50 years, yes he may have scored 51 goals for us, Ron Davies, Mick Channon, Alan Shearer he ain't at times he reminds me of a certain Polish stricker (GR) we had. MerceSaint28 Posted 2 March, 2011 Share Posted 2 March, 2011 Very poor result...no hiding from it im afraid. That is the kind of result that gets managers sacked. We are still not clicking and i think were far too conservative in the tranfer market. Since Fonte signed in Jan 2010 we have done nothing of note in the market. Chappers was a decent buy for 50 k and Guly was probably not that cheap but we really needed a quality striker to partner Lambert. Imagine where we would be with CMS, he ripped us to shreds. As usual we are not using the loan market, pretty dissapointed. Its not over yet but Adkins needs to start earnng his corn. Think about Norwich last year, cant remember them losing a fixture like this, Hartlepool was dropped points too. Colchester is a very tough away game and another must win, a win there might just eradicate this loss but its gonna be tough
Legod Third Coming Posted 2 March, 2011 Share Posted 2 March, 2011 My massive worry about Adkins, and why I was amazed we appointed him, is all about 'weight of expectation'. Pardew could deal with it because he is a surly fecker and it's water off a duck's back... Adkins, however, has managed a club with zero expectation and now finds himself at the helm of a team with Manchester Citeh expectation levels - not just from the fans, but from his own board. He must know that failure to be promoted this season and the game is up. So what effect does that have? Will he, at some point, become resigned to his fate? I support him 100%. I want us to win every game. I backed us at enormous liability at 4/1 to win this league. Because make no mistake about it, we have the resources to win it - comfortably. I just hope that he can instill the confidence and steel that is required to grind out wins every game. Because in reality that's what we need from now on... rooney Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 It is all very well asking for Adkins to sign strikers, but he did try to get players in the Jan transfer window.
