hypochondriac Posted 23 February, 2011 Share Posted 23 February, 2011 well settle for losing one of them! Will still put us 2nd! It is not purely about results, it is the level of performance since Oldham which is of concern. There is only so often you can grind out results playing poorly, in other occasions you will drop points (see last night for an example.)
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 23 February, 2011 Share Posted 23 February, 2011 I am not confident we are going up this season. It is far too tight, we are very inconsistent, and we are 5th for a reason. Not good enough.

Minty Posted 23 February, 2011 Share Posted 23 February, 2011 What is everyone trying to achieve by making all these short-term comparisons and 'what if?' scenarios? The table says all we need to know. How we got there is of no further consequence and we can do nothing about it. All that matters now is the remaining games. I think it's quite valid to be concerned about recent performances and to expect better, but equally I think that trying to project our final position based only on these recent games would not be representative of the season as a whole. The final league table is all that matters.
PokingFun Posted 23 February, 2011 Share Posted 23 February, 2011 Some of the guys on here are crazy bleating about the results of this team. I have detailed below the home and away points per game amounts achieved by NA since he came here (excluding the MK Dons game as he didnt work with the team for that one). Home Record Played 12, 27 Points Won, Average 2.25 per game. If this continues (and no reason it shouldn't as last 8 home games have achieved around 2.13) then we will achieve between 16 / 18 points at home from remaining fixtures. Away Record Played 12, 18 Points Won, Average 1.50 per game (1.64 if you exclude MK Dons and 1.83 if you base it on last 6 aways) then we will achieve between 14 / 16 points. My guess is that we will achieve around 32 points between now and the end of the season giving us a total of 81 points. Brighton 2.03 per game = 35 extra points from 17 games = 94 points = champions B'Mth 1.72 per game = 24 extra points from 14 games = 79 points Hudders 1.68 per game = 25 extra points from 15 games = 77 points P'boro 1.61 per game = 24 extra points = 71 points So, assuming teams continue at current form rates then we will get promoted and the key game is definitely not losing to B'Mth away in a couple of weeks. Beat them and we will be well in the box seat. They will have to come out and play against us as they will desperately need to beat us. A draw is actually no good to them and this should allow us more space to play in rather than cope with the proverbial bus parked. Another interesting point to note is that only twice in around 16 games has our 8 game average dipped below 2 points per game and that has been when we have had played an extraordinary amount of away games. E.g last 8 games = 1.88 per game even though we have played SIX out of eight away. Rest assured, were still in good shape and now have everyone back fit. There is no need to panic right now people. Take 6 points or more from the games versus Brighton, B'Mth, Charlton (H&A) then we will be on our way up given a usual run of form for all teams around us. I'm still certain some of those teams around us will drop many points yet. Now off to the bookies to see what price Saints are for Auto promotion. :-)
PokingFun Posted 23 February, 2011 Share Posted 23 February, 2011 Before we drew with Notts County and lost to Tranmere But beat Exeter, Carlisle and drew with P'Boro and Hartlepool (2 points per game despite 3 tough away games ..... )

Village Saint Posted 23 February, 2011 Share Posted 23 February, 2011 It really is difficult to understand some of the people on here. Sure it was disappointing not to win last night. It always is when we dont win. But we had the hardest game of all our rivals last night and frankly getting a point at Hartlepool was the best achievement of any of them. They are a good side with a very direct percentage game and we never established the dominance in midfield to play our more cultured game. If there is anything to criticise Nigel for it is not getting Oxo off earlier but I guess he was hoping he would play himself into teh game second half as Lallana did. Still it was a great day out - Wetherby in the afternoon; Hartlepool a decent little town and an entertaining second half. What's not to like? suewhistle Posted 23 February, 2011 Share Posted 23 February, 2011 Is it safe to read this thread yet - has everybody got it out of their system? I went out early yesterday evening for a pre-dinner apperitivo and didn't make it home till late, in no state to remember we had played. At least I didn't have to endure the match thread! saints-cris Posted 23 February, 2011 Share Posted 23 February, 2011 Bit frustrating. Yes we should win this game but we are going through a bit of a lull at the moment so an away point isnt a disaster. Seems a bit of a case of if we win, so does everybody else, if we don't, they don't! Have to start making some gains on these other teams around us soon and take advantage of everyones inconsistency. However, last 4 games we have got 2 wins and 2 draws with only one home game in there and quite frankly that isn't anything to be frowned upon especially seeing as we are not even playing very well ! Fingers crossed we're not still "clutching at straws" for second place, when it's still in our hands...
