The difference between Southampton and Brighton...

At the time though, as you've alluded to, they were 10 points ahead of us. That means that since the beginning of the season they had 10 more points than we did, ergo, they were a better team. Even catching up 1 point since game 9 means very little, especially as I seem to remember Lua Lua, who was their best and most dangerous player that season, being out for the best part of the 10 weeks between those times.

Would you like me to draw you a diagram ?

They were much better than us when we were sacking Pardew and being rubbish for the first 2 months, basically until we'd played 9 matches (the end of September), building their 11 point lead over us. When Adkins took over we were better than them for the rest of the season by the tune of 8 points, including not losing to them in either match between the teams.

As for Kazenga LuaLua, he only played in 5 Brighton wins in that entire season (all between Sep and Nov when we were already closing the gap), and they had a win percentage of 31% when he came back in the Championship, so I don't think he's much of a factor.

And November was when he got injured. It was 1 point between those times. I don't see how that makes you clearly right. 1 point, and their best player missing for 10 weeks. I think he was definitely worth 1 point over that time, don't you?

The point remains, they were a better team than us at the time of this thread.

  • 3 months later...

I wrote this a few weeks ago which seems quite apt now:

Would still be suprised if he went to Reading though, think he is just showing his "ambition" by refusing to rule it out and then galvansising Brighton in a few days by annoucing he has turned down Reading and wants to get promoted this season at the Amex.
