The difference between Southampton and Brighton...

Noone hasn't played that much and is often used a sub. It is the way the whole team is playing (from goalkeeper to attack) that puts them firmly on top of the league. Not at all down to individual players. Evidently proved when Lua Lua left.

Lua Lua is technically still there, he is just recovering from an injury using Newcastles facilities.

I know resurrection threads tend to descend into point scoring, but I found this one interesting in showing how far NA has come with us. Eight months ago I'd probably have agreed with the majority of posters on the first few pages of this thread stating that Poyet was the better manager... Not now!

TBF I wouldn't want to laugh at their winless streak too much, because it shows how easy it is to get stuck in a rut in this league. They were on fire at the start of the season like us.

Also we have them next up at home....and I bloody well hope they break their winless run before that game!!!

Gus is a good manager, he doesn't have anything to prove having got brighton promoted in his first full season as champions. In answer to the thread though, the difference... At the moment a number of points and 16? (haven't checked the live table yet) positions lol

He absolutely does have something to prove. He has proven that he can get a side out of L1, but the NPC is a different story. He has to prove he can cut it at a higher level. If he can, he'll have to prove he can cut it at a higher level again.

Thats just at a personal level though, Brighton don't have anything to prove really, they are at the level that they belong at, perhaps they need to prove that they are solid players at this level, and in all honesty, if teams such as Stoke, Wigan, Swansea etc can get into the PL then so COULD Brighton, but nobody expects it, thats the difference.

could you not have resurrected this thread after we beat Brighton rather than before hand, as now we'll lose. Yes, because of this. :(

You can't blame Saints first home defeat since 1066 on this - the real reason is that it will be the first home game I have been able to get to this season :(

Brighton are 13 points behind us.

That is all the difference there is at the moment.

And of course they like holding hands.

And they have a waaay too expensive but tiny capacity stadium with sh1te transport links.

And they are just a flash in the pan.

Back down in division three before long.

Why are we so obsessed with these sunday leaguers anyway?

That thread over on North Stand Chat is very good, half full of people saying that they have 100% ( or even more ) ability in Gus' ability to put it right, many others saying that the man had no plan B.

Another difference between Brighton and Southampton is that we'll still have the same manager in Feb! :)

Typical Tory....kicking the smaller man when he's down...have some compassion for those less well off than ourselves! FFS

It appears to me that the difference between Brighton and Saints is that we have virtually the same team as last year, Hoiveldt was necessary to replace Jaidi and Seaborne and fitted in, Fox was made to wait for his chance and bedded in well, Cork fitted in immediately. The rotation of players with the odd injury plus the outstanding form of Chaplow has given us a team that is better than the sum of the parts.

On the other hand Brighton made a number of signings and it looks as though the tight bond they had last year has suffered so the team is not better than the sum of it's parts which is essential to do really well.

I too feel that the Meerkat of faggotville will soon be gone , one way or another.

I bet their goalkeeper hasn't been time wasting, crap to watch them for their cup final at SMS last season.

Wonder if CMS thinks he made the right move now, to think all those we were linked with are now playing for clubs struggling to make any impact.

We did have a poor start to the season, and we maybe up with them since the first 10 games, but Brighton are smashing everyone at the moment and looking very comfortable and I cannot see them slipping up. Still think 2nd is ours for the taken and do think on this ocassion we will take it with both hands on the run in. The big turning point will be us winning at Dean Court! IMO.

I like this lol.

I am now convinced by Adkins and he has proven himself as a manager who is really effective in this league. Well done to him I'm ecstatic. In February last year he had not done so. Why posters feel the need to bring up really old threads I have no idea, it's pretty pathetic.

Probably to remind us of the constant drivvle you tend to wheel out at a somewhat unnervingly consistant basis.

Because it shows how posters (not only you) can be convinced in their line of argument, only to be shown to be totally and utterly wrong.

Besides, what's wrong with being accountable for things you've said? It isn't our fault you're less than prophetic.

That win against Newcastle has really shown that we have some real idiots on here and some really nasty pieces of work. A fair amount of this cowardly bullying. Really glad I don't live in the aggressive ****hole that is UK anymore...

Not really sure what you are talking about, but just love the sweeping generalisation at the end. Most people in this country are hardworking, decent people.

Hmmmmmm Canada has a higher murder rate, by 50%; and you have to drive further to kill each other so add in the ease of task coefficient and your murder rate is double ours. Hay be careful out there.

If it weren't for the other half wanting to stay near family I'd have moved back a long time ago.

The funniest thing about this thread is that at the time they were a better team. Yet I am being criticised because they're not now.

Actually, on 22/02/11 having played 28 games they were 10 points ahead of us in League One.

After 9 games of the same season they were 11 points ahead of us, so we'd already closed the gap on them.

By the end of the season we'd beaten them at their place and were only 3 points behind at the end, so we were clearly already performing better than they were by then, which we continued by leaving them well behind in the Championship (Lambert sending off at their place aside).

Maybe I'd have given it to you if you'd posted it at the end of September 2010, but by February 2011, no, the results clearly point to us being slightly the better side from September 2010 until Feb 2011 (and significantly better since).

At the time though, as you've alluded to, they were 10 points ahead of us. That means that since the beginning of the season they had 10 more points than we did, ergo, they were a better team. Even catching up 1 point since game 9 means very little, especially as I seem to remember Lua Lua, who was their best and most dangerous player that season, being out for the best part of the 10 weeks between those times.

Talk about an over reaction to a bit of banter on an internet forum.
