saints_is_the_south Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 Terry & A.Cole both out, what would YOUR team be? Mine: James Brown - Rio - Upson - Barry Walcott - Gerrard - Lampard - SWP Rooney - Heskey I expect that to be near enough what it will be tonight although Bridgey could start at LB. SWP looked good when he came on at Wembley & i think him & Walcott will work as they could alternate sides every now & again to confuse the opposition. Prediction: 2-1 England.
Gully Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 James Brown Rio Upson Bridge Walcott Lampard Barry SWP Rooney Heskey
Hatch Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 James Brown - Rio - Upson - Bridge Theo- Lamps - Barry Gerrard Rooney - Defoe
stevegrant Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 Gerrard will probably be dropped. I'd expect England to line up as follows: James Brown - Ferdinand - Upson - Bridge Walcott - Lampard - Barry - Wright-Phillips Rooney Heskey
Bailey Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 I'd go with the following . . . ------------------- James ------------------ Brown ---- Ferdinand ---- Lescott ---- Bridge Walcott --- Barry --- Gerrard --- Wright-Phillips ------------ Rooney ----- Heskey ----------- I thought SWP looked lively when he came on the other day, and we're likely to create more with out and out wingers on either flank. I'd drop Lampard too as I'm in the 'they can't play together' camp, and I believe Gerrard is the better all-round player. Also, Barry sits in front of the back 4 very well, providing good protection for them. In theory, this should allow Gerrard to put himself about a bit and make an impact on the game.
stevegrant Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 As much as I dislike Lampard and think he's generally been awful for England over the past 4 years, he did have a decent game against Croatia when Gerrard was absent, so I think Capello will have some justification in choosing the fat one ahead of the Scouser tonight.
Johnny Shearer Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 I think this will be a close match. Hopefully Capello can keep the players grounded rather them thinking all they have to do is turn up.
bridge too far Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 Is it on TV tonight? Santana I suppose
stevegrant Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 Is it on TV tonight? Santana I suppose Yep.
Johnny Shearer Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 Highlights are on ITV at half 10 though. Hopefully Setanta will unscramble thier channel for the longer highlights like they did for the Croatia game.
saintwarwick Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 I'd go with the following . . Also, Barry sits in front of the back 4 very well, providing good protection for them. In theory, this should allow Gerrard to put himself about a bit and make an impact on the game. I'll go with that team, I agree about Gerrard being the better all-round player, both Gerrard and Lampard have proved they can't work together so one needs to be dropped but it wouldn't surprise me if it's Lampard that starts and Gerrard is on the bench. SWP looked lively in his last game so it would be good to see what he can do tonight. A tight 2-1 win for England.
superstevesaints Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 Anyone have a link to watch it online??
Andy_Porter Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 Gerrard will probably be dropped. I'd expect England to line up as follows: James Brown - Ferdinand - Upson - Bridge Walcott - Lampard - Barry - Wright-Phillips Rooney Heskey Same but with Gerrard on the left imo. I'd love it if he is on the bench though, hopefully it would force the dirty scouse cheat to retire from international football.
Andy_Porter Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 As much as I dislike Lampard and think he's generally been awful for England over the past 4 years, he did have a decent game against Croatia when Gerrard was absent, so I think Capello will have some justification in choosing the fat one ahead of the Scouser tonight. That and Lampard has been the stand out player in the premiership this season.

hypochondriac Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 Annoyingly it's Lamps and Gerrard again. Ah well.
bridge too far Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 I have Setanta, come on over. You know what - if I lived near by I would! Mr TF is working a night shift so I'm all on my ownsome

Um Bongo Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 Well Sentanta has packed in for me. Thanks guys, brilliant channel you have.

Baj Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 **** me, that was some goal... 25 yarder from gerrard, bottom right hand corner, 1-0 england
saintwarwick Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 I think it's too early to start, wait until kick off and try again. Siorry my bad, it's kicked off already
jawillwill Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 David James is utter shi+e (IMO of course)
bridge too far Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 David James is utter shi+e (IMO of course) Obviously at fault for the Belarus goal
Andy_Porter Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 I'd take a draw here tbh, this Belarus lot are a decent outfit. Are whole midfield has been dire so far, none of them can string a pass together. Not many options on the bench though, if either Hargreaves or Carrick where fit i'd chuck one or both of them on.
Um Bongo Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 We won 3-1 btw. Rooney with both the goals in the second half. Gerrard missed an open goal.
Andy_Porter Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 Capello is a genius. I really like managers who can properly change a game at half time, there aren't many around who can do it but Capello has to be one of the very best.
dubai_phil Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 lol at this thread Nobody's interested in England..... Another 3-1 away from home by the sounds of it lucky me I watched American Pie "The Naked Mile" instead Well I could have watched a bunch if PL tits on the internet or....

Another 3-1 away from home by the sounds of it lucky me I watched American Pie "The Naked Mile" instead Well I could have watched a bunch if PL tits on the internet or.... It seems most people are only interested in England when we're losing. I don't know why everyone on here likes to have a good moan about the England side. Rooney had a good game and we won against a decent team away with both Gerrard and Lampard playing well together. I guess they're thinking about something new to moan about.

I guess they're thinking about something new to moan about. Moaning is probably the number one British past-time these days.... Being distant I blame the media TBH, - I was watching Sky News yesterday and there was some report about some "dreadful atrocity" that was at the Old Bailey and for the first time I noticed how the presenters carefully emphasised key words like "appalling" "devasted" "atrocity" when in fact it was actually a shoplifting case... Whingeing Bl**dy Poms
AwaySaint1 Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 I don't know why everyone on here likes to have a good moan about the England side. It is the under 30's they have been brainwashed at school to be excepting multiculturalism and not be proud of heritage.
RedFear Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 I had no interest what-so-ever in engand games, until the fa finally got something right and appointed Capello I have no doubt at all our best chance of winning something is with him as manager
Ponty Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 It is the under 30's they have been brainwashed at school to be excepting multiculturalism and not be proud of heritage. Well, which is it?
Saintandy666 Posted 15 October, 2008 Posted 15 October, 2008 A response from my friend when I mentioned the England match... 'england played tonight????' Was a big mistake by the FA to move the right saway from the BBC. When will people learn the BBC is just the best and that we are lucky to have it rather than just moaning about it.

Was a big mistake by the FA to move the right saway from the BBC. When will people learn the BBC is just the best and that we are lucky to have it rather than just moaning about it. I don't think the BBC have had the rights to England away games for ages have they? They've been on Sky for years. BBC used to get the highlights, but those are on ITV now so no big change there.
Saint Mikey Posted 16 October, 2008 Posted 16 October, 2008 A response from my friend when I mentioned the England match... 'england played tonight????' Was a big mistake by the FA to move the right saway from the BBC. When will people learn the BBC is just the best and that we are lucky to have it rather than just moaning about it. The rights of this game belonged to the Belarus FA, as it's their game. Rights to games cost alot of money (the Craotia game cost Setanta £5m), so the terrestial channels like the BBC and ITV are out of their depth. Setanta even wanted £1m just for highlights of the Croatia game, that's why it all went tits up.
Johnny Shearer Posted 16 October, 2008 Posted 16 October, 2008 England won - thats a good thing for sure and makes me happy. For me the whole keeping on Sven until 2006 and then appointing McCant really put me off England. Sven was disinterested by that time IMO and he couldn't get the players to perform. Whereas McCant should never have been appointed - couldnt believe he said people should judge him on his record - its crap! And he proved he was a failure. Dont get me wrong, the players are to blame as well as some seemed to think that all they had to do was turn up and they'd get into the side. Hopefully Capelllo is giving them the kick up the backside they need. Oh and Cashley crying over some fans booing him? Give me a break, if he was proper professional or had any humility he should have got his head down and worked harder for the rest of the game. Also possibly saying afterwards he made a mistake and would try to cut them out in the future.
Colinjb Posted 16 October, 2008 Posted 16 October, 2008 A good win for england against capable opposition. Belarus played some extremely good football and it was encouraging that we won by such a good margin.
LGTL Posted 16 October, 2008 Posted 16 October, 2008 It is the under 30's they have been brainwashed at school to be excepting multiculturalism and not be proud of heritage. Make that some under 30's... Roll on Berlin.
Scudamore Posted 16 October, 2008 Posted 16 October, 2008 http://www.itv.com/Sport/Football/News/EnglandInternationals/Manualstories/Belarusreaction/default.html Stupid commentator - "You're the first England manager to win his first four games in an England World Cup qualifying campaign...what does that represent for you?" Fabio - "Nothing..." I like it. I like alot... In much the same way that Big Phil refused to get caught up in the uproar over a decision that didn't go his way the other week...refreshing management...that doesn't play into the hands of the media trying to make something out of nothing and keeps the muppets on Sky Sports News quiet...
Saintandy666 Posted 16 October, 2008 Posted 16 October, 2008 Naaaa, I was talking about the highlights as well, being on ITV. ITV is crap compared to the BBC.
This Charming Man Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 I was at the game and had a cracking week - a slightly strange place but still good fun. Cheap beer, cheap food and cracking women. 3 points topped it all off. The only downer was the pricey strip clubs.

Likewise.....couldn't get into any strip joints on the Wednesday night after the game, looked like they had been told not to let us in, maybe our group of people was too big, I dunno....so, spent time with the local working girls who were attractive enough
