OK, I've been thinking, I have done loads of derby games in this country, Saints v Pompey, Liverpool v United, Villa v Brum, Wolves v Baggies, Arsenal v Spurs, Oxford v Swindon & done a few in europe too, been to all the Istanbul derbys, Milan & Rome derbys.

But what would you say is the biggest in the world?

I am planning on doing the Boca v River Plate on 15th May, I recon this would be the best one to experience.

What derby would you say would be up there, and what derbys have you been to?

I referee'd Royston Town Youth U15's v Royston Celtics U15's a couple of weeks ago and it was quite tasty!! Loads of parents and the players all went to school together but blimey it was 100 miles an hour.

i'd love to do the Milan and Rome derbies, Rangers v Celtic & Barca v Real Madrid. I'd love to do some of the less well known ones as well like Partizan Belgrade v Red Star and the Moscow, Zagreb and istanbul derbies, the atmosphere looks amazing.

Littleton v Winchester in any age group used to be a bit tasty - forget the ball and get on with the game type matches !

What about a Rio de Janeiro derby with the rival gangs controlling large sections of the city?

The nipper and I are planning a jaunt to Fluminense V Flemenco in a couple of years time.

Did the Rome derby during my *cough* sabbatical from English football. It was an evening game and it was bloody lively!

I'm planning a trip to Rome and going to Roma or Lazio. This website is quite handy for football over there.

Celtic vs Rangers

Hibs vs Hearts

2 more good UK derbies there.

For pure hatred Cardiff v Swansea and Millwall v West Ham have got to be two of the best or worst depending on your perspective.

Leeds V Man Utd i'd put alongside any in terms of hatred and they're not even a derby.

The again I spose they are - Lancahsire v Yorkshire - they still remember the wars of the roses.

It may not be a Derby per se, but it is one of the biggest matches in the world and everything surrounding it has all the hallmarks of a derby & that is Real v Barca (or vice versa)

probably fair to say it is bigger than any Derby match if you are in the Stadium

bugger! went down a jock football memory cul de sac & forgot about these 2.

went to the Swansea V Cardiff derby while on a college trip.lots of trouble right outside our guest house meant we had to take shelter in a chippy.think that was the year the cardiff fans were chased into the sea by swansea ?

i have a lot of Hammers supporters in my family so have had the delight of attending games against Millwall,Chelsea & Spurs from the early 80's. all good fun as a young lad but glad its a bit quieter now.

I'm doing the Milan derby with my nipper in April.

Planning on the Schalke / Dortmund and Old Firm at Ibrox derbies next season now the lad is that bit older.

Good call, would enjoy watching Dortmund at home - 27,000 fans standing in the biggest stand behind the goal!

I'd say the Boca v River game would be great to see, saw River play against Rosario last year and the atmosphere was pretty good for that one.

What about Perth Glory v Gold Coast United, that must get pretty tasty?

In terms of venom, us v Skates and Cardiff v Swansea are very much up there with the fiercest.

Boca vs River always stands out in my mind though as something else.

Am thinking about popping out to watch the BIG ONE this Tuesday.

The Walton-on-Thames derby!

Not sure who to support though.

Walton & Hersham are closest to my house and so my "local team" but Walton Casuals (probably an extra 20 mins walk away) are managed by the legend that is Neil Shipperley.

Its going to be a tough call.

How is their catering budget holding up?

Last year, the Kentucky Derby pulled in a whopping TV audience of 16.5 million viewers.

Do they still give an ice cream to the winning donkey?

Many years ago I turned out occasionally in the Soton Weds League as a guest player for one of the 4 or so local Police teams (ie Shirley/Eastleigh/Portswood/Transport Police who played in the League, along with Marchwood Military Camp, Woolston Weds etc etc

Some half decent players in the police teams but I have never seen so much aggression and foul play.

As a 'civilian' you weren't targetted directly but often got caught up in the left overs from an earlier challenge

Ironically some of the Senior Officers used to turn up to give support and encourage their boys to 'get stuck in'

Also recognised some ne'er do wells on the line who I reckon were in the pay of the Police and came along to witness the mayhem and get their backhanders.

Interesting times!!

Ajax v Feyenoord is good although its not a local derby.

Not as spicy as it used to be as they now ban away fans - even changed the Dutch cup final to a 2 leg match when Ajax & Feyenoord were due to play in the final as the police didn't want to have to deal with the problems (think it was 2009)

Been to Barca v Real and the Camp Nou - awesome atmosphere, but would have to agree with the OP - Boca v River Plate is one that is def on my list as well.

Not been to Celtic v Rangers yet, but have done Hearts v Hibs - ok but not a patch on us & Poopey and it doesn't help that both sides are pretty rubbish!

i went with the some Feyenoord fans to the 1st game between them at the Ajax Arena. they set fire to the food kiosks in the ground !

Oh enough of this. It was, and will always be Coombe Bissett CC vs Bishopstone CC.

At least in football nobody ever doctors the pitch brings in ringers or tries to posion the Tea Ladies.

Oh hell yeah, I forgot that one. Went to Ajax v Feyenoord back in 1993, and it was mayhem. 3000 Feyenoord fans terrorised the police and the brave Ajax fans for 2 hours... The green beforehand didn't help.

Al Wasl vs Al Nasr is pretty mean, all those dishdashes howling down the street on two wheels in their 4x4's & doing aggressive donuts when they win. The grounds must be what all of a mile apart

Ruhr Derby between Dortmund and Schalke takes the prize IMO..

80,000+ crammed into the Iduna in Dortmund or 60,000 into the Veltins in Gelsenkirchen.

Noise and atmosphere is deafening, beer on the terraces and each match between them is a passionate derby that must be experienced.
