In his Echo article today he refers to things said on forums by people who hide behind their anonymity.

He also talks about the fall out with NC last summer and explains how he has no wish to destabilise.

He also said that the club contacted BBC last Monday to ensure they reported that last weekends celebrations and his award was nothing to do with the club. There is a lot in the article and while it is one man's opinions it is worth a read because he pulls few punches.

**** off Laurie

Yes indeed, what has he ever done for us ?

That FA Cup ,signing the most sought after player in Europe at the time, and playing great one touch passing football really does represent a dark time in our history. Branfoot, Gray and Wigley just don't get the credit they deserve do they ?

You are right, these things have never been mentioned before and Lorrie has never been given any credit for them.

So I made a spelling mistake ! He's history get over it all I care about is now and his moaning about the club is bad enough but now directing it at us fans is **** poor for a "legend" like himself !

A "legend"? Are you still in short trousers? Or are you suffering with a poor memory? LM, faultless he's not but I would cross a busy road to shake his hand.

Don't denigrate history, simo. It's all some people have to hold on to in this scary, ever-changing world. Lawry did so much for this club. If I could, I'd freeze time and live forever in the times of Laury MacMenamie. Like in Ashes to Ashes.

I am now officially sick of the 125 years celebration, many have made themselves look stupid including the Club. The kit needs changing now back to stripes and people need to be looking to the future and not the past.

What a bitter and twisted old man he has turned into ..... and a crying shame. IT would have been so much better to have remembered him for all the great things he did for Saints as opposed to his constant sniping these days.

Dear LM,

thankyou for everything you have done for my club. I wasn't around to see it but have read up about it and spoken to countless friends who were there during what was undoubtedly a great time for our club. You now appear to have the urge to run to papers every time NC coughs in your direction and to be frank, it's boring and it is doing us no favours. Do us a favour and shut your trap and just live as the legend you are.

Regards,

SSOTN.

Yawn - this all getting a bit tiresome if you ask me. The thing that does annoy tho' is that its an unnecessary distraction when everyone involved with the club past and present should be focused on just one thing, promotion.

Duncan, thanks for drawing it to our attention. I have just read the article. I see is all as a "right to reply"

He talks about the celebrations and the award. No problem with that.

He expresses his sadness that the club had to ring the BBC to distance them from the event and the award. They are entitled to do that and he is entitled to comment on that call.

He praises Cortese for his financial steering of the club and his ability to turn big clubs away from trying top by our best players. He wishes him well

He is puzzled why the club seem to think he is against the club or Cortese. He says he is not.

He hints at media turning support for Pardew into criticism of Cortese at the end of last season. The second part was not the case.

I thought it was a decent article almost offering an olive branch to the club. I hope Mr Cortese reads it and gives McMenemy a call.

Good on Lawrie for speaking his mind, if only to p!ss of the usual mongs on here.

Thank you. At last someone can see that Laurey is doing it to be divisive.

LOL at all the ***ts who ripped into Lawrie without even reading the article. F*ckwits.

Yes, good on Larry for sticking it to The Man.

Umm, don't hold your breath. About as much chance of that happening as Saints winning 6-0 today.

Dear SaintScottofthe northam,

Thank you for you letter, and I am sorry to read you were not old enough to savour some of memorable times we enjoyed with the club. I notice that you have the urge to run to the messageboards every time my name is mentioned. Do yourself a favour and read the article that you feel the need to comment on and just live behind the faceless persona on an internet forum that you are.

Regards

Is the said article online? It would be good to read it, I see lots of comments already presumably by others who have not read it either.

One comment not about the article as such but about the Club distancing itself from the award for LM. I see this as a good thing. Quite frankly the Lifetime Achievement Award means far more having come from his peers/players than it would have done if it had been from the Club itself. I would be far more flattered to receive something from my friends and colleagues than from a new owner of a Club who has not been involved in any way from the achievements being honoured, and I think the Club were right to make clear this distinction. However, once again the ne'erdowells on here like to try and make out that there is something bad about the Club doing this.

Lol at the silly little boy dishing it out and slagging off LM, when he hasnt even read the article...... How bizarre.

Time for your afternoon nap??

History is important because WE ARE the past: we are the sum of all the events--good, bad, and indifferent--that have happened to us. This sum product guides our actions in the present. Ergo without it we are NOTHING.

Posted

Saints have won jack-**** so there was hardly any competition for the award. Even less competition when it's being organised by a bunch of your mates.

I quite like Lilly, I've met him a couple of times and he is obviously a key figure in the club's history. I think everyone recognises that. His relationship with the people running the club from time to time is of no interest or consequence whatsoever.

Whats your problem ffs? I am bored of the pettyness by all parties involved. I don't buy the echo because it is sh*t and if I saw this artcile I would turn the page. I would resort to calling you names and acting like a kid, but I am past the age of afternoon naps, so I wont.

There was a very interesting post on here a moment ago which has disappeared. It did not break the rules so I assume the poster had second thoughts and asked for it's removal. I will not repeat it but it concerned MLT. As the poster is or was a friend of MLT I found the post an eye opener. It shows it is not all Cortese continuing the rift

Yes or no?

Excellent post, you remain one of the more balanced contributors on here...

The fact is that there is no proof whatsoever that Lawrie has slagged Cortese off at all and yet people continually put words in the great man's mouth and attribute all sorts of crap to him..

If anyone had bother to read the article it states that Lawrie doesn't want freebies, doesn;t expect anything from the club and respects Cortese for his achievements off the pitch.

His comments about the online snipers is a simple one. If you want to slander/libel the man, be man enough to put your real name to it. Saying "Oh my name's "SaintScottofthe northam" sue me, doesn't quite cut it with me, be a man and slate him with your real name...

Not all of us can read the whole article until someone mails it to us.
But you do not express a view on something you have not read Phil. It was aimed at those who expressed harse opinions without reading it.

So why are people commenting on an article they have no idea what it contains?? We have people on here jumping on Lawrie from a great height with no idea of what he said...

That to me is absurd..

Yep which is why I haven't commented 8)

BUT in defence, it IS possible to comment on FF (& WS's) comments about the article as they have made those interpreations. But that's being a bit Pendantic to say the least.

Weston, not read the article, just wondering why the club need an olive branch?

Posted

I honestly would like the club and the ex players and managers to bury the hatchet and be friends.

Both NC and LM have done great things for the club and maybe both men have made errors. No one is perfect, but the pettiness does seem to be emanating from one side more than the other.

As Weston correctly states, people should read the article as it does answer some of the points raised on this forum on this subject raised last weekend.

Indeed, I find it rather strange that people are expressing an opinion on an article they have not even read.

This is just the kind of post that FF was referring to on another thread in that people are just so quick to jump in to knee jerk mode without even considering the issue. Like you I find it a rather conciliatory piece and certainly attempts to shed some light on a falling out which increasingly appears unnecessary.

You never know it might be the start of a thawing in relations!!

Fwiw my comment is not purely based on the article (which I have read) but the petty *****ing of the last few months ! I think it shows a lack of class you don't see Charlton talking about the Glasiers even though he's not happy about the debt the club has incurred since them taking over he just keeps quiet and supports the team !

An intresting analagy with Charlton - I wonder if it would be any different of he wasn't on the payroll

I don't think we do have many people "jumping on Lawrie from a great height". We have a lot of people saying they are bored witless with this whole thing and wishing he would just wind his neck in for a bit.

agree....just like the whole benali thing...really, what the hell has it got to do with anything effecting the team/promotion..?

why do we NEED to know the ins and outs of everything

new owners

new chairman

new manager

new era

same old (vocal) saints fans demanding knowledge..

Exactly. The Subtitle of the Article is "LM wishes NC well"

He than goes on to say they should have a cup of tea together.
