Lallana's Left Peg Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 I live in Manchester which is 30mins away from Rochdale and while we've had rain I cannot believe the impact it has had on their pitch. My Sunday League pitch can take much more rain that this and still be playable! May be a blessing in disguise as they are in good form and depending on when the game is rescheduled I may well fancy our chances a bit more. Plus lets not forget we've got Hartlepool on Tuesday which now becomes more appealing as they play today while we get to rest.
Winchester_Saint Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Arrived in Manchester at 9.39am having left central at 5.09 this morning. This league is a farce and the sooner we get out it the better. No rain in Manchester at the moment. Why did they not put covers on overnight?! Exactly. Surely covers would have prevented the pitch from getting a soaking? Especially as they knew it was meant to rain hard. I feel for you mate as I am stuck up here in the shi*ty north now too!
sandwichsaint Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Nuisance but hopefully we will be at full strength, full fitness for Tuesday night. Postponement always looked likely on that weather forecast. Anybody at a loose end in the London area Charlton v Exeter is a fiver a pop all seats, cash on the turnstiles. We are going in the away end, come on you E's (or whatever they call themselves). Fair play to Rochdale/the ref for getting it off at 10-00 and not faffing about till 14-30.....
Lets B Avenue Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Luckily, we were late leaving as we watched the first couple of overs of the cricket. Had only got to Swaythling when the first call came through.
saints-cris Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 For fooks sake. So boring with Saints not playing. Poor that these clubs cant sort out their pitch. How annoying
Saint_Jonny Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 well at least i live fairly local and hadn't travelled anywhere. Still, thats my weekend that i was looking forward too ruined. I'll keep the ticket and go to the new date but **** me, it barely rained here in huddersfield. Can't believe the game is off. I hate league one.
Saint_John Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 The Rochdale os has a picture of the pitch (I assume it is from today) with the puddles and their one cover. http://www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/page/NewsHome
dickyhale Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 We were only in Shirley and the boy called the club around 9.15 and they told us it was off so we are now just going to leave for Bournemouth to see them play Huddersfield. I have him on a Saturday and we usually go to the football. At the start of the season when Saints game was called of we went then and Bournemouth beat Peterborough 5-1...

Likewise here in Stockport - yes it's rained yesterday and today, but it's not been torrential, just typical steady NW England rain. Nearest games to here would be Man U v Crawley, Crewe v Stevenage and Morecambe v Oxford. What's the betting all those games go ahead, which can only leave us with the conclusion that it's a rugby-affected pitch, not just about the rainfall.
S-Clarke Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 We had a chance to close the gap on brighton today as they're playing in the FA Cup - as people have said, psychologically seeing a team start to gain ground behind you can be off putting, even if you have a game or 2 in hand.

Hatch Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Crappy clubs with crappy grounds who can't host games should forfeit the right to home advantage. Re-arranged date should be at St Marys. I'd bet they would get the game on if this was the punishment.

NickG Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Our midweek results are excellent, and we do better on a Saturday when played in midweek!
Mr X Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 The Rochdale os has a picture of the pitch (I assume it is from today) with the puddles and their one cover. http://www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/page/NewsHome One poxy little cover surely if they are that hard up surely they coulda asked for the fans to each bring in a tarpaulin
ericofarabia Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 FFS ... my first Saturday off in an age and Mrs EoA out visiting friends tonight .... Old Speckys lined up in the fridge .... now a feckin void of an afternoon. PAH. Friggin namby pamby shandy drinkin northerners need to man up and learn how to cope with rain FFS. As said elsewhere . get us the feck out of this shambolic amateur league pronto.
ericofarabia Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 One poxy little cover surely if they are that hard up surely they coulda asked for the fans to each bring in a tarpaulin LOL at where it is as well .... shades of Charlton's one hair dryer to defrost the whole pitch from earlier this season.
Golden Balls Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Trying to look on the bright side; They are in good form. When the re-arranged game comes around, they might not have anything to play for.

Window Cleaner Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Am I missing the joke here? We are playing Plymouth away on 26/3/11. K.O 12.30 to avoid clashing with the Wales v England match. It's not on the BBC fixtures list though.Knew I should have looked on the OS list.
ericofarabia Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 It's not on the BBC fixtures list though.Knew I should have looked on the OS list. Maybe they know that Plymuff won't be in existence by then
trousers Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Our midweek results are excellent, and we do better on a Saturday when played in midweek! Which sad muppet told you that little known fact?! ;-)

ericofarabia Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Trying to look on the bright side; They are in good form. When the re-arranged game comes around, they might not have anything to play for. A few more days for Lala to get back to full fitness rather than being at risk on a quagmire of a pitch today. Downside - if they stick to the plan of staying oop north till Tuesday - a few days of eating nowt but chips, peas n gravy, being at risk of catching rabies from stray ferrets and being surrounded by fat northern women with hair nets on - isn't the best of build ups !!!
simo Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Imo teams should be fined if they don't look after they're grounds properly ! If the forecast says rain cover the pitch ffs ! How much does a rain cover cost ?
Winchester_Saint Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Imo teams should be fined if they don't look after they're grounds properly ! If the forecast says rain cover the pitch ffs ! How much does a rain cover cost ? Spot on - a simple thing such as covering a bit of grass with a rain cover would have prevented the match being called off - according to that picture on their OS obviously by covering a bit of grass they actually thought that covering "a bit" of grass would be a good idea - what about the other 95% of the pitch!!
ludgershallsaint Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 I can see only two matches in the whole of the football league postponed so far. Ours and Rotherham's game. Just like our match the Don Valley stadium is also used for Rugby.
Saint Stimp Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Imo teams should be fined if they don't look after they're grounds properly ! If the forecast says rain cover the pitch ffs ! How much does a rain cover cost ? About 7k I think, someone posted a link last time we had a game called off.
RedWillie Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 listen to solent and hope for 5-5 draw at Gods waiting room

InvictaSaint Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Given that we are apparently staying up north for the Hartlepool game, if I were Adkins I would get the whole squad checking out Tuesday's oppo by taking them to Hartlepool v McDons at Victoria Park today. What could be more sensible?

What could be more sensible? Hartlepool is still a long way from Rochdale, depends what the hotel arrangements are I guess.

SFKA South Woodford Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 I hate this league and it's mickey mouse teams with crap pitches and their wide boy chairmen always mouthing off. This fixture backlog will end up killing off our automatic promotion chances, it's much better to have the points in the bag, to put pressure on our rivals rather than having to play catch up and the pressure being on us.
sfc1976 Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Supposed to pee it down in the north east as well, if they churn it up today and tuesday gets called off I will be seething.
dubai_phil Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Reading that link to their forum earlier they aren't best pleased their pitch is being used for Rugby and also commented that it had cut up badly last weekend, so a badly cut up quagmire of a pitch - maybe there's a blessing in there somewhere. Not for the fans who'd already gone up that way and people like Eric with noone to cook for and only OSH for company
Jonnyboy Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 I expect Huddersfield and Charlton to win today. If they don't that will be a big bonus for us. Id rather Huddersfield won than Bournemouth, dont want Bompey running away with 2nd place
Window Cleaner Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Id rather Huddersfield won than Bournemouth, dont want Bompey running away with 2nd place Huddersfield would be on the same points from a game less though.Only a draw is a positive result for us from that game. We still have to play Bournemouth though and will have an opportunity to peg them back ourselves. Whereas if Huddersfield start getting ahead there's not much we could do about it apart from winning all our games.Huddersfield beating Bournemouth will be a bad'dish result for us.Not disastrous but not great either.
adysaint Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Really bad day just got better. Got to Newcastle Station 9am. Major signal Fault no trains going anywhere. Gave it till 11.30. No hope. Went to pub. Got smashed. Got home in time to listen on website. First thing I click on 'Match Off'!
Leicestersaint Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Good news IMO. We'll still have the same number of games left and in hand as Brighton and also Bournemouth will have another game less to play. I think it is very bad news - we need to keep playing and winning not sitting around while others get points in the bag. It's a real shame.
rich saints Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 got to newbury and saw coahes coming back then had the call!! mini bus hire and fuel put in and cant get the money back off the hire company either we just gave them £40 of fuel
Rut Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Got to Newcastle Station 9am. Major signal Fault no trains going anywhere. Gave it till 11.30. No hope. Went to pub. Got smashed. Got home in time to listen on website. First thing I click on 'Match Off'! Result!
Saint Without a Halo Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 We have another 18 games to play in just over two months! Doesn't sound like good news to me especially as all the other teams have less and will therefore be fresher!
Michelle Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 We went up as far as Brum last night to drive the rest of the way this morning. Checking out of our hotel as our call came through - could've had a couple of extra hours sleep! This was gonna be my first Saturday away game since August. AND I travelled to the non-event at Charlton on Boxing Day. Rather unimpressed. I'm a Saints fan... get me out of this bastard division! NOW!
rocknrollman no2 Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 As everyone has said above.I hate this ****e league.I spent a few days in Chester and was just setting off this morning for a good beer up with a few Rochdale supporting mates, just as i saw on SSN about the game being postponed. So my whole day/evening ruined. And i bet the rearranged game is a mid week one, when i cant go.
whelk Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 cant believe all the criticism of Rochdale. We got ourselves in this 'noddy' league so accept it. How can Rochdale have a pitch like our on their budget and rainfall you morons. Tis frustrating but dont start slagging off smaller clubs - no wonder Brighton and others hate us for arrogance - dont blame them for some of the muppets posting here.

I remember when a Premiership club called Southampton had a game called off because the toilets were frozen (the pitch was fine).
oldsarum Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Trying to look on the bright side; They are in good form. When the re-arranged game comes around, they might not have anything to play for. looking at both of our fixture lists earliest dates for rearranged game either April 12th or 19th
