Pancake Posted 18 February, 2011 Posted 18 February, 2011 New Radiohead album, out early on download. http://www.thekingoflimbs.com/ Just d/ling now, there goes the afternoon!
Pancake Posted 18 February, 2011 Author Posted 18 February, 2011 (edited) OK then, "Bloom" is a good enough starter. Follows on nicely from "In Rainbows" "Morning Mr Magpie" is based on a sweet beat and guitar line. Not feeling "Little by Little", a tiny bit Radiohead-by-numbers. A bit dirtier there with "Feral". Like "Louts Flower" very much indeed. Ticks all the right funky/dark/beaty/synthy/dreamy boxes for me. Best on the album by a mile so far. "Codex" is ok, nice mellow vibe "Give Up The Ghost". Well, it flows nicely after Codex, might be a grower. Loving the guitar work on "Separator". 2nd/3rd best song on the album after Louts and alongside Magpie. Edited 18 February, 2011 by Pancake
Ludwig Posted 18 February, 2011 Posted 18 February, 2011 I had a similar impression to Pancak, feeling a little underwhelmed overall. Potential for 'growth' somewhat, however.
Saintandy666 Posted 18 February, 2011 Posted 18 February, 2011 I think this is a bit of an Amnesiac, brilliant, but it's a grower. I do like it a lot though, I just have exceptionally high standards for Radiohead.
SuperMikey Posted 18 February, 2011 Posted 18 February, 2011 I was listening and thinking it was very much like Amnesiac as well, couple more listens and I reckon i'll be well in with this one!
Saintandy666 Posted 18 February, 2011 Posted 18 February, 2011 I don't think they are ever going to return to the style of The Bends/OK Cumputer era.
the stain Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 I don't think they are ever going to return to the style of The Bends/OK Cumputer era. You reckon? A couple of listens in now and it's definitely growing on me. I'd been hoping for some Notwist-y pop like Yorke's solo record and the happier In Rainbows. But this is altogether darker, with a kind of lost-in-the-woods feel, little ghostly choral whispers and slight sounds on the edge of emptiness.

I've had about 7 or 8 listens now and I love it. I think at first I was too quick to judge it by In Rainbows style and quality, but really this album is something totally different, but still really good.
skintsaint Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 great track... still to acquire the album tho
