warsash saint Posted 30 October, 2011 Share Posted 30 October, 2011 Saw quite a few in Saints shirts, shouted out to a few while I waited at the 7 mile marker for my missus. I must have been stood right next to you as was also helping missus at 7 mile mark! Heard a few shouts for the many saints shirt wearing runners:)
Neil Posted 30 October, 2011 Share Posted 30 October, 2011 Well done those who completed it today, quite a few in Saints shirts and they didn't seem to be getting much stick. Skates have gone a bit quiet, I wonder why... Can anyone confirm that the Lordshill 10 mile on Sunday still includes the dreaded Toot Hill, or not? Jimmy_D Posted 30 October, 2011 Share Posted 30 October, 2011 Most Saints shirts ever seen in Pompey on a non derby day?
Quickfire Double Posted 30 October, 2011 Share Posted 30 October, 2011 1:33 for me today - 5 mins off my previous personal best for 10m. Took great delight in picking up this season's home shirt from Adi @ the Saints Foundation this morning, and wearing it round the course. Fair play to the watching Phew, all good-natured stick only, and I gave as good as I got!! Plenty of Saints in the crowd as well, based on some of the shout outs on the way round... HedgeEnder Posted 30 October, 2011 Share Posted 30 October, 2011 1:21 for me, 3 mins off my PB but still a good race.....also saw myself on TV running behind Hugh Dennis and ended up beating him by 1sec! Saw a fair few runners in Saints shirts and didn't seem to be getting any stick at all.....
Smirking_Saint Posted 31 October, 2011 Share Posted 31 October, 2011 (edited) 1.42 for me, which I am bloody chuffed with considering that I am really not a distance runner, and before my (2) cruciate operations was always a pace runner who quite verbally hated any distances over about 400m. Loved it today though, and a little gutted that I couldn't achieve a better time. A combination between starting in green wave and so having no room to pull away, it really was frustrating having to try and find gaps every 10m or so, and giving in to the pain stopped me. I litterally sprinted the last 800m, had plenty in the tank but my knees and right foot were agony, perhaps I should have just ignored them for another 2 miles !! Loved it though, and seriously considering running next year aswell to beat my time, couldn't find Adi so couldn't get my Saints shirt but had a Saints foundation one. Nobody warned me just how much pain I would be in today though, stairs are not my friend. Edited 31 October, 2011 by Smirking_Saint
Paul Chuckle Posted 31 October, 2011 Share Posted 31 October, 2011 1hr 44 for me. Considering I only started running in June was really chuffed and managed to run the whole race with no breaks or walking. Saw a few people in Saints Trust shirts who I cheered on and saw someone at the end who I said great charity too.
Window Cleaner Posted 31 October, 2011 Share Posted 31 October, 2011 Why do people get slower? Is it bone strength or overuse? Can't be fitness related. Always wondered biologically why sportsman lose pace when they maintain or improve fitness, like Giggs for instance. Doesn't really apply to me and the rest of the lesser athletes as I wasn't fit in early or mid-20s, so with age I've got fitter and faster! It's to do with muscular mass, when you get older your ability to build MM (and recover from minor day to day damage) wane. For a few years say between 38 and 47/48 this can be compensated by increased endurance but after that time takes it's toll and the rot sets in.Don't forget maximum heart rate decreases with age as well. MHR can be simply defined as 220-Age (there's a correction to be applied if you want real accuracy but the rule of thumb is near enough) So if you can't get your heart rate up easily any minor obstacle (little hill, sharp bend etc) causes an increased effort and it will eventually slow you down. Nowadays I notice hills more than I've ever done, keeping equal intensity effort slows you as it wouldn't have done before. There's all sorts of stuff like microleaks in the circulatory system as well.
The Godfather Posted 31 October, 2011 Share Posted 31 October, 2011 Great day, I did it in 1 hour 17 minutes. really pleased with the time considering the difficulty of weaving in & out of the slower runners.
