OldNick Posted 18 February, 2011 Posted 18 February, 2011 Perhaps the Bates family might not want a low key kick about to be used in the great mans name. Should we not consider how from playing bayern Munich to a game between two forum teams on the Common may just demean the man?
trousers Posted 18 February, 2011 Posted 18 February, 2011 Or call themselves FC Web Saints. I think what it boils down to is Boj and Steve dont want this forums name associated with anything that is not officially approved by the club in case it upsets someone there, which is a pretty sad state of affairs. It doesn't have to be 'officially' associated with this forum though. But, as I say, there is nowt stopping members of this forum coming together one day in May and playing a game of football against people who happen to use a.n. other forum. If I was the organisers of this event I would concentrate on raising as much money for charity as possible rather than worrying about the cosmetic exercise of some kind of official endorsement. It's only a couple of Internet forums. Nothing to trouble the United Nations with.

I'll mark Ribery.
Window Cleaner Posted 18 February, 2011 Posted 18 February, 2011 I agree. Saintsweb v Bayern Munich would be much more fitting. I'll mark Ribery. Easy job there then, the bloke is a walking sick note and a total c*nt.
Ekelund24 Posted 18 February, 2011 Posted 18 February, 2011 Would this be the game that you *****ed and whinged the whole way through and disallowed a perfectly good goal and won narrowly 3-2? Plus Saints funs best player couldn't play, it would have been a different story with his ability and inspiration in the side. Man up and lets get it on again you big pansy. Our best player did play that day!! We should've been 4-0 up but had a goal disallowed for B Rabbit molesting the keeper and a nailed on penalty not given!!

That would be the game that I turned up to watch and was being begged by both sides to referee. As i was a regular on both forums at the time, had i accepted i would have ensured a draw, but as i was with my young daughters and didn't want them to suffer the embarrassment of Dad having the **** kicked out of him by all 22 players I gracefully declined. The 9 was right though, they ****ed it
The9 Posted 18 February, 2011 Posted 18 February, 2011 (edited) LOL, Wurzel knows which side's players he's more likely to bump into in the pub, I see... As for that pussy B Rabbit, yeah, he's so crap he jumped ship to the Saints Forever team in time to play for the Saints IFC side on a regular basis and he's now playing for the Sunday side I manage. He's still better at basketball though, just like Shaun should stick to driving taxis. Speaking of my Sunday side, does anyone any good (preferably defenders and midfielders) fancy a game in the Meon Valley League on Sundays ? We're doing pretty well (albeit in Div 4) so Saturday regulars are preferred, but anyone any good who can commit to the majority of our 9 remaining games will most likely at least make the bench. We're the only Saints team in the whole bloody league, second in the table with 2 going up. It's pretty clean too, considering all the Skates and wannabes (we're due to play in Liphook one away match !?!!). We play out of Whiteley though most of the team are Hedge Enders, our pitch is good (they even spike it and cut it regularly) and best of all, it's an afternoon kick off at 2pm... PM me for details with a brief recap of who you play for and where if you're interested and we'll get you along. This has been a public information announcement on the behalf of FCSantos And if that doesn't get you interested... here's a photo from a match earlier this season... Edited 18 February, 2011 by The9

I used to play central midfield and have also played centre back and left back but am massively out of shape these day, maybe next season with a pre season to help, if that headless chicken b-rabbit can get in your side i'd walk in!

We have tamed his randomness. Also as he is fatter he strays less.

hypochondriac Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Some quite major accusations from Stu on TUI that this site has some sort of agreement with the club to use photos and the club crest. Is that true?
Saintandy666 Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Some quite major accusations from Stu on TUI that this site has some sort of agreement with the club to use photos and the club crest. Is that true? Who honestly cares if they do?! It's not like we are being stopped in posting anything we want... the people who have been banned have generally been racists provocative ****s.
Colinjb Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 (edited) Some quite major accusations from Stu on TUI that this site has some sort of agreement with the club to use photos and the club crest. Is that true? Not to my knowledge, and to be fair. I should know. Whenever I use a picture for a news article I try to ensure it's from either a free source or I try to give credit to the OS for a picture/associate article in order to avoid any issues. If there was an agreement it would make things a lot easier but as far as I know, as a site contributor, there is nothing of the sort. Edited 19 February, 2011 by Colinjb
Smirking_Saint Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Is Stu a UI player or SW? I will play if I am on the opposite team to smirking saint. Why ?? Will there be a report button there ??

If there was an agreement it would make things a lot easier. And there we go, it's all utter bull****. I honestly don't know why people care so much anyway. Can't we just use this saints forum to discuss Southampton FC rather than a load of inter forum jealously/dispute.
Colinjb Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 And there we go, it's all utter bull****. I want to clarify that anything posted as a news article is done so purely by the author. It is done under no instruction of the site owners or administrators it is done on the trust of the contributor. If any pictures are used it is by the authors selection alone.

Can't we just use this saints forum to discuss Southampton FC rather than a load of inter forum jealously/dispute. Why are you getting so animated? I was simply asking if what stu had said was true. Following conversations I'm pretty certain it isn't anyway. For the record, I think it is critically important for the forum's future that no such agreement exists. You may not have been here for keith's tenure but if you had been you would understand why.

Saintandy666 Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 I just believe that the politics of the forum vs. the club and forum vs. forum are really overplayed. And yes, I do remember the lowe postergate on the saintsforever.
hypochondriac Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 I was here for Keiths tenure. But you must have been about 13 so perhaps not the best judge.

Saint in Paradise Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Surely it was the N.I. fiasco in London that upset Saints ? nothing whatsoever about anything written on a forum
stevegrant Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 A rather hilarious "accusation" when you can read on the footer of EVERY SINGLE PAGE of this site: Fixtures reproduced under licence from Football DataCo Limited. All rights reserved. Licence number NEWMEDIA/SWEB/66070a. Many images used with permission from Southampton Football Club. I make no apology for having made a very one-sided agreement with the then-commercial director more than two years ago, in the interests of this site. The agreement was literally as follows: SFC agrees to allow SaintsWeb to display photos and images relating to the football club, i.e. club staff, the club crest, etc, which would otherwise be subject to copyright. I should point out to Stu (who I know can't actually read this, but I'm sure one of his plebs will pass the message on) that, actually, SaintsWeb does not enjoy "Official Nominated Fanzine" status, which would entitle the site to obtain the fixtures licence for a nominal fee (£1 + VAT) rather than the full licence fee (somewhere in the region of £350 + VAT). That was a choice we made right from the beginning, to ensure the site's independence was maintained. Also for Stu's information, the fixtures and live text licences do not amount to "around £10,000 per annum" as he stupidly, and without research, claims. The photos cost us nothing. Zilch. It also makes me laugh that Stu and another poster (strangely, another one who has been banned from here multiple times... go figure) both have this bizarre fixation that I'm somehow "in bed" with the club. Suggest you go back through my post history in the last 12 months, where you'll find countless examples of me voicing my disapproval at decisions taken by the club. As was suggested yesterday, the fact that both Nick and Stu approached me with the "Ted Bates Memorial Trophy" idea instantly raised alarm bells. Whether their intention is/was to antagonise the club, I don't know and, to be honest, don't care. As Nick rightly said to me, it comes to something when fans don't feel they can do something in memory of a club great, but as it turns out from a discussion with someone at the club, they wouldn't necessarily have an issue with SaintsWeb being involved in such an event if it was organised correctly. I'll leave you to insert your own Silverspoons-related gag there
Saint_clark Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 "major accusations"? What are either party guilty of here? F*ck a doodle doo.
Colinjb Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 We have all learnt something here! Happy days!
hypochondriac Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 "major accusations"? What are either party guilty of here? F*ck a doodle doo. Steve has clarified above and yes the accusations were major because they amount to libel (something which Steve pointed out to me privately). Anyway that is the end of the matter. Thanks to Steve.

hypochondriac Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Ah right, misread your post - apologies. I thought you were insinuating that this forum and the club were somehow in the wrong for having an agreement in place. They don't have an agreement in place (or at least nothing which would compromise their independence) so it's irrelevant.
stevegrant Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Summary, for those of you who can't be arsed to read through the rest of the thread: there is an agreement (which has never been hidden), but the sole beneficiary is this forum. The club receives nothing in return.
Deppo Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Another case solved by Detective Inspector hypochondriac. What would we do without him?
Saint_clark Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Another case solved by Detective Inspector hypochondriac. What would we do without him? Well I don't think our palms would come into contact with our face as much, for starters.
OldNick Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Thanks for the clarification Steve. SRS has issues with the club and this site it seems, what has the Saintweb to gain from playing the match?
um pahars Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Personally, I would prefer /askinglobbying/engaging with the Club and attempting to get the original pre season Ted Bates game reinstated. That would make more sense to me and open the celebrations and recognition up to a much wider audience. Was there ever anything official about the dropping of the game???? Or has it just been an oversight in the melee of installing a new regime????
Thedelldays Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Lets just lobby the club to rename the stands/training ground.. ted bates stand Markus Liebherr stand or the markus liebherr training ground
Weston Saint Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 I have never had any concerns over the loss of the Ted Bates Trophy. It was set up at a time when there was no other tribute to Ted. We were a Premier side and it gave us a chance to test ourselves against good European teams. Since then we have an excellent tribute being the statue outside the main entrance to the ground. We have dpopped into the lower regions of the league and as a result do not have a team who can challenge the better teams in Europe. To make it meaningful the opposition would have to be a Championship team. Hardly fitting to such early aspirations. As for renaming stands I would prefer they stay as they are. That is the history of the area.
Scudamore Posted 19 February, 2011 Posted 19 February, 2011 Well I don't think our palms would come into contact with our face as much, for starters. You stroke your face when reading his posts?
