Dalek2003 Posted 16 February, 2011 Share Posted 16 February, 2011 I don't think we stand a cat in hells chance of finishing in the top two, never did. NA is still learning his trade and with a fairly inexperienced manager we should be pleased with a play off place.

He's already won promotion from this league twice on one occasion by winning the league. He's even got a better record of promotion than Glenn Hoddle. I am sure that NA will get there, but he is on a steep learning curve and he was a risky appointment.

NA is still learning his trade and with a fairly inexperienced manager we should be pleased with a play off place. That's a really stupid comment really. NA is a proven manager at this level and has achieved promotion from it twice (once as a champion). I don't listen to all this rubbish about ''oh it's only scunny, they're little fish''. It's still the same task, and he has done it before with a relativity weaker team all be said. He's the right choice as manager. I think the results prove that. If we only reach the play offs I will not be happy and I'm sure many fans would agree with me. Automatic promotion has to be the number 1 aim this year, anything else equals a pretty poor season. Correct me if i am wrong but only Davis, Jaidi and Chaplow (who he signed) have played at a higher level than NA was managing at in August. Dalek2003 Posted 16 February, 2011 Share Posted 16 February, 2011 S-Clarke, i understand where you are coming from, but as my previous post states, Southampton as a bigger club brings breater pressures and needs a different type of handling than a tightly knit but very good S****horpe ! In this way NA is untried. Remember the mistake we made in appointing Sturrock in 2004 ? Couldn't handle the pressure, didn't know how to handle players with a bigger ego and the rest is history. Fair enough, but I think the results so far suggest that he can handle the pressure and is handling the players very well.
NickG Posted 16 February, 2011 Share Posted 16 February, 2011 but the point totally fails when you consider that we have outperformed every one of our rivals for 2nd from that day he started!
Dalek2003 Posted 16 February, 2011 Share Posted 16 February, 2011 Ok, we will see at the end of the season. I hope we do go up automatically, believe me, but i think it is more likely we will be in the play off lottery.
NickG Posted 16 February, 2011 Share Posted 16 February, 2011 can't quite bring myself to be confident although think promotion is likely and there for the taking, still think 2nd or 3rd very likely
Turkish Posted 16 February, 2011 Share Posted 16 February, 2011 can't quite bring myself to be confident although think promotion is likely and there for the taking, still think 2nd or 3rd very likely if we continue our record of 6 wins, 2 draws, 1 defeat for the rest of the season that should be enough for 2nd, although we have some tough game coming up so its a big ask. skintsaint Posted 17 February, 2011 Share Posted 17 February, 2011 we can lose 9.....at most and hope everyone else fails around us too. But that would bring others into play and make things complicated....i should of said 5.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 17 February, 2011 Share Posted 17 February, 2011 We need to lose one less than all the main group around us assuming we draw about the same number as them!
Seaside Saint 2 Posted 17 February, 2011 Share Posted 17 February, 2011 Since Adkins was appointed we have only lost 1 game per month, so statistically we should lose another 3. This should be acceptable if we can win around 10-12 games.
NickG Posted 17 February, 2011 Share Posted 17 February, 2011 since NA appointed we have gained points at better rate than any rival - continue will be enough
oracle saint Posted 20 February, 2011 Share Posted 20 February, 2011 The following statistics might help: Record of last 19 games (period October - Feb. to date P19 W12 D3 L4 Av. points per game 2.21 Assume the next 18 follow the same pattern then we would generate 40 points. Total points for the season 88. Probably enough for top two. Based on the historical trend we would expect to lose four games. The first 9 games of the season in August/September generated 9 points (along with much gloom and despondency amongst the faithful)
