Remembering the good ol' days: McMenemy, Ball & Peach

As we remember the great and good to have graced the red and white over the years, I thought I best post these magazine scans from the late 1970s/early 1980s.

Clearing out my laptop last week I stumbled across some images I had scanned in a while back of Lawrie McMenemy, Alan Ball & David Peach.

Thought some of you may like to see them and reminisce: http://bit.ly/hbu27u

I remember he missed one at home vWolves c1979, the first he missed for us*.It was unthinkable that he might miss,or it might be saved, he was Mr Reliable in the same way that MLT and Lambert have become.

*Remembered almost as well as the first he scored for us vPalace in the semi-final.

Not seen the Peach piece before but it is interesting inasmuch that Lawrie often says Peachy never missed a pen but in the article he confessed to missing 2 out of 4 that season!

FF get some stuff posted up.

Is Peach still the highest scoring full-back in Football League history?? 6 seasons with us, 224 games and 34 goals, must have scored a tidy few afterwards at Swindon as well. An average of 37 games a season for 6 seasons, great player for the club. Then again you didn't get sent off for blowing your nose in public in those days.

Peachey only scored 2 at Swindon and 6 at Orient after he left us. Don't forget he also scored 30 for the Gills before he joined Saints. From being a legend at Saints he had a disaster at Swindon, not a happy time.

Will never forget Peachey and Nicky Holmes at the IW Saints Supporters Club do "assisting" me as DJ. Brilliant night, 2 top blokes (them, not me).

I played golf with David Peach the day after he had a 'snip'. We all couldn't stop laughing as he was walking like a jockey on tiptoe wishing he hadn't bothered.
