Deppo Posted 13 February, 2011 Share Posted 13 February, 2011 It's not the audience that needs to be targeted with changes. It's the clubs. Get them interested and you get an audience. Award the winners the 4th Champion's League place.

Papa Shango Posted 13 February, 2011 Share Posted 13 February, 2011 Think another idea was to give the winner a place in the Champions League, which I think I'd be in favour of. Not sure about the others. I suppose I could live without replays, but absolutely no way should it be seeded IMO. The beauty of the FA Cup compared to most other cup competitions is the world is that with a good draw even a small team can get far in the competition. I love the idea of the draw being completely random

Big John Posted 13 February, 2011 Share Posted 13 February, 2011 (edited) Award the winners the 4th Champion's League place. +1 but not the losing team should the winners qualify by other means. take our last final, in the build up Monsieur Wenger told the media that we had achieved our goal of eiropean football as they were qualifying through league standing. was he right? I don't think we should have been allowed personally and neither should any other losing team, not even into the Uefa. I think you're right, but I'd love to see it happen. If it was up to me I'd have a CL place for the League Cup as well, and just have the top two from the league. It would mean clubs take the cups more seriously. I think it's a bit sad clubs would rather finish 4th than win a cup these days. Kenilworthy Posted 13 February, 2011 Share Posted 13 February, 2011 Have the people in charge not realized that every change they have made away from the traditional format so far has resulted in the cup becoming less popular eg penalties, so you can win a tie by not actually having to win, midweek quarter finals a couple of years back - really caught the public imagination, playing the final before the last league game of the season, semi-finals at Wembley so diluting the magic of getting there. What is really needed are not steps forward but several steps backward. However, what I really think will happen is that the chosen few in the Premiership will go straight into the last 16, leaving the rest of us just playing for the honour of getting to play them. Whatever happens though, inevitably we will end up playing Manchester United.
Nexstar Posted 13 February, 2011 Share Posted 13 February, 2011 5.30 kick-offs for all games? No replays would be stupid, it's the magic of the FA Cup, otherwise you're just playing 2 league cups. Seeded teams is debatable, don't really mind. Having the winner as the 4th CL spot is a ridiculous idea. Those that get it now have earned it over the course of the season and, in recent years, there has been plenty of competition for it (Spurs as great example). You put the likes of Portsmouth in the CL for winning a few games in a row and they will get raped, week in, week out, by better organised foreign teams, taking the English game as a joke. We qualified through OUR league position, not for being losers, it was because they had already qualified for the CL and so would not play in UEFA and so it added a further place to the next team down the standings. I think it should be the FA Cup as a fourth CL spot. It wouldn't degrade the english games dominance IMO. If anything it may make it a little stronger. We will still have 3 big teams atleast in the competition and also it should make the FA Cup a more fashionable competition again meaning that teams will again play stronger squads in order to achieve a CL spot. Win win IMO plus if for whatever reason we do get a Pompey etc into the CL it should give them extra cash and player draws to improve. It should never ever be seeded, that will just kill the magic IMO. Replays should also stay.

That's not true, we qualified through the cup. If it was, 7th placed Everton would have had our UEFA Cup spot.

Isn't that so glaringly obvious ? an idiot should see it,even one in charge of the FA. If pandering to ITV has not already ruined the cup already then a thinktank of FA executive **** Head, Adrian Chiles, and co will certainly do so. Yes it would encourage managers to put better sides out, but the problem is lower league teams don't need a stronger incentive to play good teams. And that, perhaps, mediocre premier league side would just get battered in Europe, game after game. You then have Chelsea, United and Arsenal in the same 3 spots every year *****il City spend far too much money) and just the UEFA places to play for. The likes of Liverpool, Spurs and Villa (from the last couple of years) have very little to aim for. Think it's a poor idea, but a better incentive for FA cup sides is a good thought.
