just done the bbc predictor thing, i have us finishing 6th

brighton

charlton

bournemouth

peterborough

huddersfield

SAINTS

we are well capable of beating anyone over 2 games, so time to look for manchester flights & hotels i think :)

I did the predictor, although our game against Plymouth is missing. Adding that one on (draw) I got

1st. Brighton 93 points

2nd. Saints 81 points

3rd. Bournemouth 81 points

4th. Charlton 80 points

5th. Huddersfield 77 points

6th. Peterborough 71 points.

81 points will be nowhere near enough for automatic promotion FACT.

84/85 minimum.

Just done the predictor myself.

Out of the 18 games left - I've got 13 wins , 2 draws, 3 defeats

finish 2nd, just. 89 points.

Out of our last batch of 18 league games we achieved:

11 wins, 4 defeats, 3 draws - That would give us 85 points if we repeated that form.

We're not far away at all. Just a little more consistency...

One thing that struck me was how many of us play at home on the last day...this is going to be very nerve racking. We need to make sure we're in 2nd going into the last day...

Huddersfield v Brentford

Charlton v Hartlepool

Bournemouth v Rochdale

P'Boro v Daggers (although I think P'Boro will end up as a playoff chasing team)

Saints v Wallsall

I think we will finish 4th & lose in the final. Teams know that if they keep us at bay & play the counter attack we can be vulnerable. The other issue in the play-offs is the refereeing lottery. I have seen some truly shocking officials & if we end up with one like the Brighton, Peterboro, Tranmere games etc we will lose out. Unfortunately...................

listen, to all the doom and gloom merchants, anyone would think we lost saturday, its our ability to grind out a crappy 1 nill that saints have missed for years, saturday is exactly why we have our BEST chance in years to go up ... so what everyone is doing well around us, all we can do is concentrate on ourselves, we just have had a bit of a hangover from the FA cup ...we will be back in full swing soon, in Nigel we trust.

We really need to get over this idea that Charlton are good or are our rivals for second spot! I saw them yesterday and they were really really ordinary, we have absolutely nothing to fear going there and going for the win!

Powell won his first three (two with scruffy one-nils, never a bad thing) but yesterday they played P'boro at home, playing for a play-off place they had just 15k home fans and the 'atmosphere' was non-existent till they went 3-1 up. First half they were very slow to settle, looked nervous and Pboro took them to pieces; only some weak finishing and last ditch defending kept it to 1-0 at HT, truth was Pboro should have had 2,3,4 in the first half and been home and hosed by HT.

Second half Charlton scored from their first decent attack of the game, obvious long cross from the right went right over the P defence and headed in by completely unmarked striker BWP; PBoro just stopped playing at this point and Charlton scored again inside a minute with the visitors defence again nowhere. Charlton then withstood a long period of Pboro pressure before scoring a breakaway goal that went straight through the P defence and clean through the keeper. CMS addded a tidy finish in overtime to make it 3-2 and one of the most unlikeliest of scorelines.

Charlton keeper was a sort of Davis-lite, some tidy stops but tends to stay on his line and didn't really link well with his defence, plus some erratic distribution.

Neither full back was very good, we have 4 better full backs than these two.

Best two players were Christian Dailly and Docherty at CH, both had good games and kept Charlton in it first half (the only two Charlton players that might get in our first 16).

Semeda played holding mid/anchor man but was very inconsistent, looked athletic and mobile but made lots of unforced errors, we have better.

Very little joined up forward play or attacking pattern, BWP still very inconsistent, he worked hard for the team but little of it was very productive; several poor touches and often ran in the wrong places, basically did nothing but took his one chance a very straightfd free header.

Pboro looked great in the first half but fell away badly in the second. Couldn't really judge GK Lewis as he had so little to do but he might have done more with the third. Boyd and CMS both looked decent (particularly Boyd who was the best player on the pitch), they also bought on a young Antonio-a-like as sub on the right wing and he was excellent, fast and direct, beating the fullback on both sides and putting over some peachy crosses (think this was Mendez-Laing?).

We really do need to be targetting 6 points from Charlton, 4 will do; I would be pretty ****ed if we take less than 4 points from those two games!

I think Brighton might well have had it's bad trot, so short of meltdown by them, I can't see us catching up. Second place, at the moment, is a lottery, but as has been pointed out by many, it's in our hands. Have faith.

I just cant see us catching Brighton they are relentless just keep smashimg teams off the park what a job Poyet has done there I cant believe that Bompey havent imploded since Howe left they are seriously over achieving can they keep it up ?

I think it is 2nd or 3rd for us in a way I would love to see us win the play off final at OT it would be a great day out & we would have won something but it is so important that we go up this season I am keeping my fingers crossed for 2nd place.

It is so tight at the top apart from Brighton, Charlton have come up on the blind side a point behind us with a game in hand how did that happen ? We cant afford many if any slip ups we have got to keep winning it is going to be a very exciting run in to the end of the season with many a twist & turn & we are going to have to be a lot better than we were Saturday

Brighton will win league and 2nd place between Saints and Charlton. Therefore the 2 games against Charlton will proabably determine who finshes 2nd. If Lallana plays majority of remaining games then i think we will finish 2nd.

Don't underestimate Bournemouth. They beat Brighton a couple of weeks ago.

Maybe. But a team gets easy goals by putting themselves in positions to score - and not missing.

Unfortunately Saints are ballooning too many shots at the moment. When you compare the number of shots on and off target we should be scoring for fun. This is why we are not currently in the top two.
