Crouchie's Lawyer Posted 14 October, 2008 Share Posted 14 October, 2008 http://uk.news.yahoo.com/skynews/20081014/tuk-reward-to-find-cat-serial-killer-45dbed5.html A £1,000 reward has been offered to bring a serial cat killer to justice. In the last two weeks, nine pet cats in Weston-super-Mare, six of them in the same street on the Bournville housing estate, have died after being poisoned with anti-freeze. The recent spate of feline deaths follows an identical poisoning outbreak between April and August in nearby Bridgwater, which took the lives of 19 moggies. All suffered vomiting, diarrhoea and fits and eventual kidney failure, caused by ingesting ethylene glycol - the agent commonly found in anti-freeze. Animal rights organisation Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) believes the poisonings were deliberate and has stumped up a cash reward to track down the killer. It is offering £1000 in exchange for information leading to the prosecution of the culprit or culprits. Peta's Suzanne Barnard claimed that because animals were often the perfect "practice" victims for violent people. "Weston-super-Mare residents have good reason to be concerned," she said. "Research in psychology and criminology shows that people who commit acts of cruelty to animals often go on to commit violent acts against their fellow humans. "As long as the perpetrators of this crime are at large, other animals in the area - and human residents - might also be in danger. "Animal abusers are cowards. They take their issues out on the most defenceless beings available to them." Peta is urging residents to keep a watchful eye on their animals and to keep all cats indoors. A police investigation was launched last month by Avon and Somerset Police and the RSPCA. The RSPCA said its investigation was split between searching for a malicious psychopath and an innocent source of the chemical, like a breaker's yard. Police are awaiting the outcome of post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause of deaths. In September, Inspector John Norman said: "Geography and distance would suggest the fact that cats being poisoned in both places is just a coincidence. "However, as we don't know if this is an accident or deliberate poisoning, it is possible that the person responsible read about what was happening in Bridgwater and decided to be a copy-cat cat killer." [/Quote] This makes me sick that someone can be doing this, and as it says, being able to inflict cruelty upon animals is normally only a small step away from inflicting it on humans. These people are f*cked in the head. On a separate note though, the last line did make me lol, not at the situation, but at the Journo using the line. Ponty Posted 14 October, 2008 Share Posted 14 October, 2008 May I suggest that cats are kept indoors country-wide as a precaution. You can't be too careful.

I keep mine indoors anyway. We live too close to a main road which has a big off field t'other side. I fear they would go walkies over said road and that wouldnt be safe! You can't be too careful. They wouldnt need a gun as a precaution if someone tried harming my cats. It would be a necessity. If anyone harmed my cats, then if they wanted to continue to live any form of life they would have to kill me before I did them. I hate animal cruelty with a passion. Rory Posted 14 October, 2008 Share Posted 14 October, 2008 Yeah, it's pretty bad. I broke this story, by the way, as I'm a journalist in Bridgwater. It started off with a spate earlier in the year, April I think. I even have a my own "cat killing" map with pins highlighting were all the cats were killed! haha

Oh come on, there's loads of points to cats. They have a great hand in: Reducing the awful indigenous bird population to reduce bird crap incidents. Spreading toxoplasmosis to help keep the NHS in business. Defecating on other people's property to keep lawns fertilised. Keeping upholsterers and haberdashers in business by giving curtains/furnishings an effective 'shelf-life'. Keeping humans alert by turning on them with no notice whilst being stroked. Keeping roadside recovery vehicle operators in business by causing road accidents from walking/running out into traffic. The list is virtually endless for our furry friends. Crouchie's Lawyer Posted 14 October, 2008 Author Share Posted 14 October, 2008 Keeping humans alert by turning on them with no notice whilst being stroked. That list made me lol. However, cats only tend to turn on people if they are wound up. Most cats are docile and will only 'turn' if provoked, or if the cats havent had a lot of human attention. The same can be said with dogs. Cats and dogs are very similar in this sense, if you show enough affection to either, they both reward it with love and loyalty. There is no 'point' of cats, as there is no 'point' of dogs or in fact humans. However cats are exactly the same as dogs (when kept as pets) in the sense that they provide companionship. A lot of people dont like cats because they dont either understand them or they fear them. A lot of people have the opinion that they are evil things which scratch all the time. This is not the case at all.

Sorry I meant in terms of pets. People always go on about not liking cats as they have no point. Well unless you keep one of the said dogs above as a pet, then the dog you keep has about as much point to it as a cat does. Not that I dont like dogs, as I like dogs too, however, people who dont like cats, dont like them mainly due to either being scratched as a kiddy by a cat (and that is probaly due to them annoying the sh*t out of the cat and it was deserved) or they have never had one and are niave.
