The result or performance?

Sounds like the performance was rubbish but the result was great.

I am still concerned about us though as it seems that our form is slightly going backwards at a crucial time.

We'll know more after next Saturday's game. Rochdale aren't easy opponents at the moment.

Is 48 points enough to avoid relegation

Last 10 games: LWWWWDLWDW

OK, the last 5 games weren't as good as the first five but still, that's averaging 2 points per game. Not too shabby. Perhaps you meant the level of performances were dropping off?

Yes, winning is terrible form. Adkins out. (joke).

Not a convincing performance from the sound of it, but a win is a win. Most teams find it hard to break down sides that are one player short.

We can get into the top two without anyone's help but that didn't stop one of the forum's idiots from concluding that "automatic promotion is going to be out of our reach, and has been for a while." Unbelievable.

Yes thats what I mean, we do not seem to be firing on all cylinders atm although thank god the results are still going our way. I would feel a bit more comfortable if we played to our true potential.

Our results in the 2 games against Charlton will dictate our season. If we take more points than them from those games we can get into the top 2 on our own.If not they can better us all the same.

Yes, they're crucial - but like I said, we can get there without relying on other results. To say that automatic promotion is out of our reach is ludicrous.

Not a great performance, missed Chaplow big time in the second half but still 3 points - that's all that matters.

why was Chaplow replaced ?? because his tackling is atrocious and he'll get a straight red very soon I suppose.5 bookings in 15 starts isn't a great record. He really needs to be playing further forward where tackling isn't necessary. Trouble is we have too many attacking options on the field and not enough real midfielders.

Like I said in the Build-up thread, time to get our heads down and win games like everyone else.

The 4 games we have against others in the top 5 are absolutely crucial to the season.

Very poor game ,3 points cant be bad when you play that bad.

Just never seemed to get going or gel together not confident of top 2 on the last few performances prove me wrong pleasssssse.

N'Guessan and Forte both disappointed - all pace and power but no touch and no end product. N'Guessan didn't even look interested to start wit. Probably the worstv1-0 win I've seen. Saints had no spark. Barnard should have started the game alongside Lambert.

The lack of performance today summed up a wasted January transfer window.

Pretty dull but a most welcome 3 points.

Flat performance, flat atmosphere.

Was the sending off merited? Opposite side of the pitch to me so hard to tell, but the Carlisle players were pretty angry about the decision.

Definitely not our best performance of the season and we seem to be misfiring at the moment. Not even the introduction of Lallana at half time got us going.

It was definitely one of those Holloway ugly wins. A win is a win.

But on a sadder note, I do hope the old fella who collapsed in the toilets under the Kingsland just before the game has pulled through as he looked to be in a very bad way. Fair play to the emergency services, stewards and police who were giving their all to save him.

what a truely bizarre comment. We signed 5 players in the transfer window and added the much needed pace and cover everyone was whinging we lacked. I dont know what sort of player you expected as a league one cover player but you've got it in N'Gessen and Forte. Now the moans are that the much needed cover players aren't good enough, what do you f*ck expect? They are L1 squad players for a reason FFS.

The double-header against Charlton looks massive.

Indeed, as does Bournemouth and Brighton away, if we are serious about automatic promotion we need to lose none and win at least 2.

we signed 2 players who weren't here before though.

Who are both being slagged off because in the 10 minutes Forte played today he wasn't brilliant and N'Gessen didn't have a good game, anyone that went to Exeter would have seen what a potentially good player he can be.

Agree 100% with all of the above, forget the performance it was 3 points at the end of the day we all know we can play much better. I hope the chap is ok saw them working on him as they took him out of the ground did not look good though.

Very poor from Saints today. Thankfully we were playing a poor side like Carlisle who didn't really seem to have any type of attacker on the pitch.

Guly was awful, didn't battle enough for me and gave up a lot of 50/50 balls. He has not impressed me since signing permanently - drop him for the next game Adkins.

That Leicester guy was quite poor, kept over hitting his touch and missed a sitter.

Forte looked quick and very energetic but also gave away some silly fouls and looked awkward on the ball.

Good to see Lallana back, thought he did well and linked up well with others around him.

Chambo done great for the goal, worked very hard through-out the match.

Lambert wasn't great, but scored a goal.

Hammond was our MOTM for me, he was everywhere. Won so many 50/50 balls and hit some nice passes.

Overall we will need to play much better if we're to beat Rochdale next weekend.

Agreed, he looked like a certainty for a red card. Hes a great player for us and we miss him when hes not playing, so I suppose NA decided on balance to sub him, plus it gave AL a run out.

btw, what the hell went on with Fonte and Davis? When Jose headed that ball out for a corner, did KD give him a shout or has Jose gone deaf?

Perhaps he needs better ball being fed to him then.Looking at the scores on the doors on the Ugly everybody was pretty poor

anyway. We need to get Morgan back into midfield to utilise players like N'Guessan to their full ability.

Bored for first half hour, got a little exciting when matey got sent off (justified as he was squaring up to linesman giving him loads of mouth) nguessen did look poor but to give credit to him there were LOADS of chances to get the ball to him in space down the wing but the players looked like they just didn't want him to have the ball at all. Contrary to comment above I do think lallana coming on made an impact and he looked great at times yet again. It seemed to kick oxo into gear too.

Adkins looked like he knew full well it was a poor performance at the end.

Games like this come about and I don't think it will have any bearing on the next game as in normal saints fashion we will look completely different again. Rather we were inconsistent in our quality but still win most games than consistently poor as we could be....
