Thedelldays Posted 12 February, 2011 Share Posted 12 February, 2011 2-1 to man u at the mo, Rooney has scored one of the best goals I have ever seen.. brilliant
Saint137 Posted 12 February, 2011 Share Posted 12 February, 2011 Unbelievable goal. Unsurprisingly all over YouTube at the moment before the PL copyright nazis get involved: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H02oYdm80_Y Dragging it slightly back on topic, I can't remember Le Tiss scoring many overheads... Saint_clark Posted 12 February, 2011 Share Posted 12 February, 2011 It's a very good goal, but no way one of the best goals ever. If it was scored outside a top 4 team it wouldn't get the coverage it will now.
Jimmy_D Posted 12 February, 2011 Share Posted 12 February, 2011 That's a rare one, overhead kick without a hand supporting him on the floor. As well as the sheer athleticism and reactions needed to get to the cross after it'd been deflected... 'tis a thing of beauty.

If it was scored outside a top 4 team it wouldn't get the coverage it will now. the fact it was scored against a team that cost ££££ and against international defenders and one the best keepers in England means it was great for that alone.... if he scored that against burton albion it would not have been as good...that is the way it works.. not many goals are as good as that, ball going away from him, the height he got, the athletic ability and the way it found itself in the top corner

Yep, it has gone ! I actually haven't seen it so cannot compare it to Keegan's "non goal" in about 1980 which would definitely have counted under the offside rules of today. I'm sure that IS on you tube, maybe Yep it is: What a surprise it was AGAINST Man Utd, at least as good as the Rooney goal IMO. Even allowing for the different offside rules back in 81/82 it should have stood. Armstrong being in an offside position made not a jot of difference Edited 14 February, 2011 by chrisobee
JackFrost Posted 14 February, 2011 Share Posted 14 February, 2011 (edited) It was a fantastic goal although as someone mentioned earlier it wasn't as good as Trevor Sinclair's overhead in '97 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3q0ANjqm0YY&feature=fvst Because it was Rooney the 'goal of the season' competition is well and truly over, and I suspect it'll be shown on every episode of MOTD from now until the end of the season. Durleyfos Posted 14 February, 2011 Share Posted 14 February, 2011 I'm bored of seeing Spudhead's goal already. Danny Wallace V Liverpool was better, anyway.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 14 February, 2011 Share Posted 14 February, 2011 Armstrong's over head kick onto Keegan's head to set up Channon versus Liverpool in 1982 was pretty special
Hatch Posted 14 February, 2011 Share Posted 14 February, 2011 Best overhead goal right here. Rivaldo. last minute. last game of the season. Valencia a really good team back then. For a hat trick and also meant qualification for the Champions League.

stockportsaint Posted 14 February, 2011 Share Posted 14 February, 2011 they showed the first of these (the overhead) last night on MOTD2 in a piece spinning off from Rooney's "wundergoal". Somehow i expect we'll see Rooney's repeated more times than Danny Wallace's, even though you could argue Danny's is better as he has much less time to react and get into position.
