gaz Posted 11 February, 2011 Share Posted 11 February, 2011 I fancy having a go at betting online, mainly on football scores but other things I take a fancy too. Are there any sites doing worthwhile deals at the moment? Or do you have a site you regularly use that is reputable?
Dr Who? Posted 11 February, 2011 Share Posted 11 February, 2011 I always use coral. No reason for this, but I did used to use Skybet, but find the returns better on Coral.
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 11 February, 2011 Share Posted 11 February, 2011 Compare all the odds from each bookie here: http://www.oddschecker.com Do a Google search for free bets - most of them do free bets on sign up every now and again. And go easy - only stake money you can afford to lose. Keep a record too - makes it more fun and you can keep track of where you are. If you get back 80% of what you stake over 12 months you'll be doing well!!
SuperMikey Posted 11 February, 2011 Share Posted 11 February, 2011 I use WilliamHill, find the odds are good on there. Betfair are doing quite a good offer atm, if you sign up and place a £10 bet on a football game, they'll give you 3 more bets of £10 for free. Very good actually! gaz Posted 11 February, 2011 Author Share Posted 11 February, 2011 Excellent, thanks guys. I assume you all are regulars, where are you at winnings-wise so far (or is it that bad to keep track of? ).
SuperMikey Posted 11 February, 2011 Share Posted 11 February, 2011 I usually just put a quid on a long-odds accumulator every now and then, wouldn't say i'm a regular gambler. Won several smaller bets but never a jackpot
chrisobee Posted 11 February, 2011 Share Posted 11 February, 2011 Pretty much every online bookie offers free bets for new clients. You can easily make a guaranteed profit if you open several accounts at once including Betfair. Usually the trick is to lay back your bets on Betfair and though you'll make a small lose on your original bets the free bets will more than compensate ! Keeping a record of all bets ESPECIALLY losing bets is a definite plus. You always learn from your mistakes But as above this is the golden rule : Go easy - only bet with money you can afford to lose.

saintbletch Posted 12 February, 2011 Share Posted 12 February, 2011 Don't use sky bet, poor odds. Betting exchanges are always better, and more fun as you're taking another customers money and can lay bets. Betfair or betdaq, btw offer free bets but betdaq is less hassle to set up and get betting. I've used them all at some stage, often just for a free bet. Don't bet on scores though, it's just giving money away. Bet the result or accumulators. It's the only way I've made money. And never chase a loss, that's when I lose the winnings. I agree with this. I use Betfair and find that there is something more exciting if you use an exchange where you can lay (bet against an event happening) too. It certainly gives you more chances to win and to rescue bets that are heading south. Plus as the odds you see are supplied my mug punters like me and not professional bookmakers you're 'likely' to see better odds on an exchange. When you can lay an event you find yourself able to place multiple bets on both sides of an the event happening. You can have great fun with sporting events like darts, one-day cricket or tennis where the likely outcome fluctuates many times during the match. You start off with a position, then if the odds change you can use some of the potential 'profit' to then back against your original bet and you can find yourself in a no-lose situation. There is an element of strategy to it that you don't get when the bookmaker makes the market. My brother-in-law bets quite heavily on Betfair and has had a lot of success in the under/over 2.5 goals per game markets. I agree with adriansfc that you should avoid predicting exact scores - unless you see it as the lottery it is.

pap Posted 13 February, 2011 Share Posted 13 February, 2011 gambling will ruin your life. Stevo, just back from Newbury with my tazer Gambling addiction will ruin your life. A couple of quid on a football accumulator gives Saturdays a bit of extra spice. As in all things, moderation is key.
labibs Posted 14 February, 2011 Share Posted 14 February, 2011 I use Betfair and find it pretty decent. You generally get slightly larger odds than you would at any of the other big firms. I don't bet too heavily, just the odd football match and a few quid on the horses now and again. I echo the above points, don't bet money that you cannot afford to lose and don't chase a loss. I opened my account with Betfair through Quidco http://www.quidco.com/ and got £40 back in cash. Took out my original stake and have been betting with that £40 ever since. Ekelund24 Posted 15 February, 2011 Share Posted 15 February, 2011 but despite the profits, it's still depressing. You lose perspective of it being real money, because at worse you're losing winnings. I couldn't handle losing much of my own money I've worked forQUOTE] Perfect summary!!
dune Posted 15 February, 2011 Share Posted 15 February, 2011 I must be tens of thousands of pounds down. When i was younger i would sometimes (nearly always) go into the bookies with my wages and within the time i was there which could be minutes (and problem is miles more dangerous now with those evil roulette machines) I could blow it all. But mostly if i won i'd put it all back and lose anyway. Gambling is a horrible addiction because you know you shouldn't do it and you only go in to spend £20, but you then lose that and try and get it back and so you get into chasing it. I can remember the gutted feeling and it made me feel like a homeless tramp. So based on that my advice is don't go in bookies, just have a bet at the footie and if you have an onlice account (as i do) choose an English provider (i use sky bet) because with them and betfair you can set a maximum deposit limit per week. I do £25 which i can afford to lose.
