Racist images, no black silhouettes... I'm writing to the Daily Mail.

With a swimming pool like that and the retractable doors on to a patio, I reckon they should use it as a summer holiday camp and let people pitch a tent up on some of the Youth Team pitches. It would certainly beat Holland's Wood or Roundhill!!!

But seriously, looks and sounds impressive, so well done to all involved. Would like to get a tour up there when it's finished (note to Club - any chance of arranging tours around the new Staplewood at some point???).

This is awful, it's all about the future of the club and 'young players'.

Where is the 'legends lounge' and luxury accommodation for ex-players and managers in these plans??

Truly a disgrace. Cortese OUT

Nice looking building which will be great for attracting players, especially to the academy. May age poorly though. In a few years the wood cladding will be grey with lots of grey polished concrete surfaces inside and in the winter the windows will reflect the sky and look, um grey.

On a serious note, great news!! Am so excited to be a Saints fan at the moment, just feels like we are at the beginning of something special.... COYS

Wow looks brilliant. Wish we could fast forward through all the **** to 18 months time, it'll be exciting to see where we are!

We're going to have to get promotion now. That would look just plain silly in league 1.

Never mind League One, that'll look silly in the Championship...

After what happened to Gray & Keys, I'm amazed you had the gall to write this sort of sexist nonsense. Mods what's going on?

who are the architects? could not see any names mentioned.

AFL Architects

Same people that did Chelsea and Man Utd's training grounds. Saints are spending ALOT of money here, which is good to see. :)

Well, that's the next question.. how long will it take to build our wonderful wooden Taj Mahal?

The last non event was very disappointing, so I am hoping this updated version will get underway a bit pronto now as current facilities at Staplewood look more than a bit dated.

Any builder types out there care to estimate how long a building schedule this may entail please? Depending on when work commences the players may be using portacabins for end of this season and start of next, if not longer, so build time will become an important factor.

Read the article on the OS and it tells you how long it will take.

From the OS:

"Basic work has already started at the Staplewood site, with temporary buildings and accommodation already in place for the first team squad. Now that planning permission has been granted, the next stage is to immediately begin constructing additional temporary accommodation before demolishing the existing buildings in the coming months, with work set to start on the new structure around July. A period of nine to twelve months has been set aside for the construction process."

If the temporary accomodation doesn't spring up by June or so, then you can worry. ;)

"This next exciting stage in the Club's development will mean that the Club's players - from the age of 8 upwards - will benefit from world class training facilities"

Where's the ball craw? Surely there is space to shoehorn one in somewhere.

For such a serious thread, there is some awesomely amusing comments on here!

yeah - I was reading this thread while training some staff today and couldn't stop myself cracking up, they must have thought I had finally lost it.

Not sure if I'm allowed to post this on here as it involves a departed one (StuRomseySaint, not Markus), but Stu has raised an interesting point on the Ugly Inside. How about renaming the "new and improved" training centre after Markus??????

A very good idea IMHO. Would fit with the great man's vision.

The new building is a real sign of intent. It will hopefully attract top junior and senior players alike.

This is good news given there was a bit of a NIMBY campaign organised by nearby households who were objecting on the basis that it would mean lots of extra traffic to see the reserves play...

Did they actually formally object or did The Echo over hype it with one of its trademark ****poor articles?

I wouldn't name the whole training ground after him. Staplewood Training Ground just sounds good, maybe call the main building "the Markus Liebherr Pavilion".
