Daily Fail: Southampton players told to boycott 125th centenary dinner...

These innuendos that the Ex-Saints are at it are bang out of order and sully the reputations of decent people past and present who have given up their time for decent causes.

Indeed they are, and in a world where mud sticks, people should be very wary of besmirching a decent little organisation that is only on their radar due a to a personal spat between Cortese and MLT/Benali.

The insinuations and innuendos are unhelpful and unwelcome.

The same could be said for NC just becuase he had a mate with a load of cash doesn't mean he should always be beyond critiscim.....................

That's fair enough; as I have said elsewhere, criticism is a two way street.

So are you saying that criticism of MLT is fair comment as a matter of opinion, (providing of course that it is constructive opinion?) Because, as you can see, there are some who would have it that just because he gave us good service as a player, he is somehow immune to criticism for his actions now that he has retired.

In my opinion those outside the club spitting in know exactly what they are doing. They know one of Cortese's weak spots is his ego.

The Echo Editor was in dispute with Cortese. A year into the Liehberr purchase they ran an article praising all he had done for the club. Not once did they mention Cortese's involvement. That, in my opinion, was deliberate and they knew Cortese would fume. He did of course, from accounts I have heard.

This group setting up the 125 year event approached the club, I am told by an unreliable source - StuRomseySaint, and were told that the club would not endorse it as they had their own idea's on celebrating the event. The group went away and organised it, sold out within weeks, and many supports/fans are looking forward to attending. Because it is a sell out there is no need for further advertising. Why then, just before the event, is things appearing in the media. Could it be that they knew the invitations sent to the club, not to the individual homes of the invitees, would be rejected by Cortese? Was this not another opportunity to dig?

Why did Banali and Le Tissier make comment on two different Sky programmes on the day of the Man Utd cup game? It was clear the question put to Benali was pre managed. Geoff Sterling, returning to Le Tissier after discussing the potential of Alex Chamberlain and whether he should stay, asked about his problems getting tickets from the club to which Le Tissier responded. Stage Managed again? I think so.

I can understand that they feel they might be being excluded. It is sad to see it. BUT their actons are not going to shift Cortese nor soften his resolve. What their actions are doing, as demonstrated on this thread once again, is to divide the supporters, keeping the unacceptable face of politics alive and well and gnawing away at our future potential.

It would be nice to get them in one room, knock their head together to gain consensus, and move on but there are too many egos. Too much bad blood. We, the supporters and the players we pay to watch much rise above such bickering or we are once again a dead club walking.

And there ladies and gentlemen - We have it in a nutshell!

I just love the work Cortese is doing at our club, and can for the first time in a long time see the potential we can reach with his hand on the tiller. As we know he is not looking for us to mark time, he has a realistic vision for us to be at the top table once again.

It therefore grieves me to see and hear some of our greatest ever club stalwarts seek to openly embarrass and undermine him so publically, and only for the reason that their own egos are at least as big as or maybe even bigger than his.

They might want an "Old boys club" running the Saints but none of them have the financial means or even strategy to do it - Cortese has!

They all profess to love the club ( and I don't doubt for one moment they do), but for the love of christ stop the media sniping that is threatening to undermine a sound regime that has overseen the saving and return to health of our club.

The club is bigger than anybody - And its the here and now that counts.

No I think we have posters who are blinkered on both sides I get annoyed by those the criticise NC at every oppotunity as much as I do by those who will defend NC no matter what. Far to many posters are entrenched in thier postions regarding NC that they don't take things on a case by case basis.

NC is not beyond criticism by any means, and as our current CEO that comes as part of the territory for him.

However, right now he is running the club as effectively and efficiently than at any other time in my living memory and instead of looking downwards as we often did, we can look upwards instead.

Therefore, I am most dismayed when a perfectly sound regime is being publically undermined by people who should perhaps know better given their attachment and love towards the club, and the only reason I can think of is their ego's have not been sufficiently massaged by the new regime.

This is not blinkered by the way, but are the genuine feelings of a fan who has seen tinpot regimes come and go over the past umpteen years, and is now wholly refreshed by seeing somebody in charge with a strategy I buy into.

So to sum up...

MLT and LM are legends and always will be

MLT, LM and NC need their heads knocking together (NC coming out of it slightly better image wise by appearing to keep his mouth shut but mainly by being in charge of a club that is finally going places)

SFC running a series of 125 year events and run their own charity

Ex Saints formed in 2008 and registered charity but are not very good at publicising where their money comes from and goes to.

Ex Saints is not longer associated with club so can no longer use logo

Mayflower event and dinner organised by Mike Osman and not a charity event

Osman, MLT and LM are very funny when they get together and even though they will have swipes at NC it should entertaining

Not the sort of place that SFC employees would feel comfortable attending (when do you laugh...?)

LM uses mail to get his points across

MLT uses Sky

NC uses Telegraph

Daily Echo plagerise from all sources with negative spin

and finally, re SFC being a good investment... ...who was it who said there is only one way to make a small fortune out of football? You start with a large fortune....

I think Cortese is doing a reasonably good job in running in running the club in League 1 with large crowds and no mortgage on the stadium.

The only criticsm of him was the handling of Pardew like Lowe with Hoddle he took to much notice of the fans obviously he could not work with Pardew and should have bought in a new manager in the summer and we would probably be heading for Promotion - our Pre Season was a farce and I could never how we would be playing well at the start of the season.

However Cortese seems to alienate all other organisations which are involved with SFC which causes problems which seem to have got out of hand

I suspect that if this thread were to go on for another 9 pages nothing new will get said.

Try this analogy then. You work for a company for 20 years, giving unswerving loyalty, then you retire. Would you expect said company, to keep giving you free products for the rest of your life, or would you expect to have to pay like everyone else. I love MLT, have met him several times via charity functions, I even organised one for the Wessex children's heart circle, that he and Mike Osman, were heavily involved in. But is ML had to pay for his own season ticket, then I see it's only fair, that everyone else should do the same. Anyone else here manage to get a block booking of ten seats for the Utd game?

Exactly as Southampton has done. Everybody has to pay for their seats now. No freebies, no hangers-on, no favouritism or special treatment. Everybody knows where they are. Good, isn't it?

Yes, it's exactly as it should be.

Unfortunately for many 'ex-employees' the goalposts have shifted. That the club is being run properly and not as an old boys club can only be good news, it'll weed out those that really care from those who were just after a free ride.

(This is not intended as a dig at Le Tissier/Benali etc. I am sure they do care about the club, even if it may be missguided in this instance.)

How many business events have you been to where Julie, the now retired check out girl, and Brian, the retired delivery man, are wheeled out in front of the current customer base to be met by widespread applause and cheers and then asked questions on their days at "Tescos" and invited to give the audience some insights on the current way the company operates????

These analaogies with "normal" businesses spectacularly miss the point about what a football club is about and its link with its supporters.

I'm just pointing out that a company that run private gyms and hospitals is also a charity! Personally I couldn't give a flying **** about the disagreement between the club and ex saints. If there's no profit to be made from this venture then why wouldn't the club be associated with it.

As with Buctootim yesterday, it is rather easy to make glib accusations on here that have no basis in fact. Nuffield Health, like the Ex Saints are a non profit making charity.

I've got no gripes with ex-saints, I was merely pointing out Nuffield Health were also a charity. I wasn't aware they make no profit at all from the gyms, private consultations etc they provide. So where does all of their money go? I shall look it up.

Wind your neck in would ya ffs.

As I'd said before, I ignored this thread knowing where it would go. I hadn't seen any publicity saying the money would be going to charity for the event @ the Mayflower, all I wanted was clarification on this issue.

If all of the money is going to charity and the accounts are audited happy days, in which case I couldn't see why the club were being shirty.

Let's make it clear, I'm not arguing that anyone receives freebies, I'm merely suggesting that the Club should be doing all they can to harnass the goodwill and positive vibes that may come from working with those who have represented the Club in the past. I merely see it as a great opportunity for both sides to benefit from such an agreement, as opposed to both sides suffering from this falling out.

Unsusbstantiated claims could probably be called opinion and Football is a game all about opinions. I think you have to be somewhat thick skinned to be in the business and certainly not going around getting all upset and petty when someone gives an opinion on the Club.

But finally these analogies that a football club is a normal business are just risisble and display a somewhat nonsensical and simplistic viewpoint.

With all due respect, if you're going to make such a scurrilous claim (stating something, as opposed to offering an opinion) then you need to be rather sure about the facts you're stating. The onus is on you to get it right.

Charities have a legal obligation to publish their registration number on all communications - letter headings, emails and website. Given that legal obligation to disclose the fact that the organisation is a charity, if they fail to do so it is reasonable to conclude it is not.

It is sad, every time I look at the league table I have a tear in my eye. When Lallana signed a new contract I was locked in my room crying 'why are the fans singing the name of our chairman? WHY?'

Unless you mean sad as in 'not cool', and then I still agree with you, because I look to the terraces as the first port of call for all things hip and fashionable.

It took me two seconds to go to the Charity Commission's website and get their reg. number. If you're going to post (incorrectly) on here (on a public site) that they are not a charity, then you have to be pretty sure that what you're posting is correct.

Dress it up all you want (and list as many excuses as you can find), but if you're going to make such allegations, then you have to be pretty sure about what you are posting. In this case you simply didn't.

Indeed. How dare they sing the name of the man who brought a Billionaire to our club, has the ambition to make us fight at the top of the best league in the worlds and further better our already fantastic infrastructure.

Tis' ridiculous. Shame on them people. If I hear his name sung on Saturday I shall rip up my season ticket, throw it over the c*nts singing his name and spit on there Rockports on my way out. I'll even give the stewards a right hook on my way past for letting such c*nts into the ground.

When I went to the 'last do at the dell' the (tuxedo event on the pitch) where former greats were on hand to deliver the stories from yesteryear, and Alistair Mcgowan others provided entertainment, a great time was had. I got to meet Ted bates for a second time, and Even got to speak t Lowe (who in person was very much the baby eater - and a lot more comfortable in a 'natrual setting'.

Anyway, my point is do you know how many of the current playing squad attended the event?

None.

And did it make a blind bit of difference?

No.

Because it was an event that centered around the rememberence of things past. Just like this one.

And if you think that the invite (and media campaign beforehand against cortese) were unplanned and co-incidental then you and the orgainsers are either a) Naive beyond belief b)

Yes, that's the only way out and I think the pressure (aimed at both sides) to do that has to come from the fan base - we're the ones who are having our loyalties needlessly challenged when we'd be far happier being loyal to all of them.

But then who are we to lecture them on compromise and reconciliation when we look at some of the polarizing and obnoxious comments on here?

Yes but ExSaints and Ex-saints produces no results. You may know the organisation is actually legally called the The Southampton FC Old Boys Assocation (ex Saints) Ltd and is a registered charity, but no-one reading the website would know their name or their status. Indeed the contact address for the ex Saints website is different to the company. Charity law exists exactly to stop the public being mislead by sound alike and lookalike concerns. Reputable charities should be shouting their status, as they are legally required to do. It gives the public confidence.

What is their exact definition of charity? All time and services given completely free, or do we have "expenses" in here? Under Wilde we had people taking money out of the club that we could not afford. Unless the club knows exactly these details, they are well advised to stay well clear and do their own thing. Another at SMS in one of the suites which was promoting some miracle product, again with an ex Saint in attendance. Miracles don't seem to last as long as they used to, especially on the evidence of that ones duration.

What is their exact definition of charity?

I think that's what the Charity Commission is there for. If you think there is something that needs investigating, then I suggest you contact them direct, as opposed to joining in with the other insinuations, unsubstantiated claims, fallacies and underhand jibes on here.

I do find it incredibly sad that people are prepared to step in to the gutter with insinuations and allegations against a registered charity that has done some great work over the years (probably a damn sight more than some of those having a pop on here). Throw in the fact that many of those involved are/were a part of the wider Saints community and I struggle to understand why people want to discredit such a decent little set up.
