hypochondriac Posted 5 February, 2011 Posted 5 February, 2011 Could be a good thing. Seems to confirm there is some substance in the rumours that have been around since the summer. No doubt because it isn't what some want to hear it will be dismissed as b*llocks by most.
S-Clarke Posted 5 February, 2011 Posted 5 February, 2011 I have a feeling people are string again. Bitter people in the background. A few names come to mind.

No doubt because it isn't what some want to hear it will be dismissed as b*llocks by most. Why is it a good thing ? You want the club to be some rich Arab's plaything ? Personally, I think we have ideal owners, a rich European family, and want to see it stay like that.
ottery st mary Posted 5 February, 2011 Posted 5 February, 2011 ;)Until it appears in Loot.. it ain't real ..

If the Liebherr familie's heart is no longer in it then ultimately it is the right thing to sell it on.
Sheaf Saint Posted 5 February, 2011 Posted 5 February, 2011 Possibly one of the least informative and most vague articles the Mail has ever published - and that's no mean achievement. No direct quotes from anyone, no 'club insider', no source for the rumours, or even the slightest inclination of who this mystery middle-eastern consortium might be. Best to ignore it methinks.
St Chalet Posted 5 February, 2011 Posted 5 February, 2011 Strikes me as lazy journalism. No sources + club doing well = takeover. Add in the fact they claim to know Markus' cause of death, that as I understand / recall has never been disclosed, then it is a pretty ****e work of fiction.
.comsaint Posted 5 February, 2011 Author Posted 5 February, 2011 No doubt Don Cortese will issue a short statement at 11.30pm this coming monday evening to quash such rumours.
St Chalet Posted 5 February, 2011 Posted 5 February, 2011 The last person the guy interviewed in respect of Saints. Make up your own conclusions. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1349692/Lawrie-McMenemy-warns-Southampton-Dont-ignore-greatest-day-clubs-history.html

No doubt because it isn't what some want to hear it will be dismissed as b*llocks by most. It's the standard response for many on this site. I think it's the standard response if people post stuff or the media print articles without backing it up with some substance. I'd venture to suggest that less than 10% of the rumours we've read on here have proven to be true, so the cynicism is understandable isn't it?
Tom28 Posted 5 February, 2011 Posted 5 February, 2011 Of course I has to be dismissed as ********. There is nothing of any substance whatsoever in that article. Read it again. It's purely speculative. It doesn't inform anyone of anything except that the Club was bought for about 13 million. Utter utter drivel. The article is vague on purpose; because the Mail need it to be so they can escape any legal action brought by the club. Lawrie Mac should do one now too and shut the **** up. He's clearly the 'dark forces' Cortese referred to in his BBC interview.

Wes Tender Posted 6 February, 2011 Posted 6 February, 2011 Pathetic racist comment. Pathetic and idiotic response. There is nothing racist about Alpine's comment at all.

Your faith in newspaper reports is truly touching. Edited 6 February, 2011 by St_Tel49

CWD Posted 6 February, 2011 Posted 6 February, 2011 It is ********. Of course it's ********. Cortese has delivered on every promise he has outlined so far, I trust him.
docker-p Posted 6 February, 2011 Posted 6 February, 2011 Pathetic and idiotic response. There is nothing racist about Alpine's comment at all. LMAO, bless you. Europeans good, arabs bad. What is it if not low brow racism?
Matthew Le God Posted 6 February, 2011 Posted 6 February, 2011 (edited) I can't believe I'm going to say this but... I agree with docker-p (admittedly it is the lesser of two evils when up against Alpine ) Anyway, back to the subject at hand. This is more Daily Mail unsubstantiated rubbish and I will be disappointed if a club legend like Lawrie Mac is behind this. Edited 6 February, 2011 by Matthew Le God
docker-p Posted 6 February, 2011 Posted 6 February, 2011 It is ********. Of course it's ********. Cortese has delivered on every promise he has outlined so far, I trust him. Be fair, you would trust a monkey if it was in charge, just because it was Saints CEO. I think NC promised the new training ground development would be opened lat year!!!
Matthew Le God Posted 6 February, 2011 Posted 6 February, 2011 (edited) Order is restored, I disagree with him again... I think NC promised the new training ground development would be opened lat year!!! Find something credible to back that up? Because I don't think you will as he at no point put a guarantee of a time frame for the project. What they have done is re-evaluate what they need and the new plans are far more substantial than the original and will cost three times as much. Not the actions of a family that want to sell up anytime soon and not fulfil Markus' legacy! Edited 6 February, 2011 by Matthew Le God
Papa Shango Posted 6 February, 2011 Posted 6 February, 2011 No idea if these rumours are true or not (I have serious doubts) but as docker-p said, some of these responses are ridiculous and racist. Just because they are from the Middle East doesn't automatically make them bad, and it doesn't necessarily mean they would care any more or less than our current owners (Or any British owners for that matter). The folks at Man City, as well as pumping huge money into the team are spending huge cash in completely regenerating the area around Eastlands (One of the poorest areas of the city, which will create hundreds of jobs). Doesn't sound to me like people who don't care. Would people prefer that or someone like Mike Ashley at Newcastle?
shurlock Posted 6 February, 2011 Posted 6 February, 2011 LMAO, bless you. Europeans good, arabs bad. What is it if not low brow racism? Why is it necessarily racist? That's hysterical. I would prefer a European over an American. And I would prefer a European over a businessman who comes from a country where business, politics, state patronage and corruption go together - and you'll find quite a few russian oligarchs and oil-rich princes (and of course one or two Europeans) fall in that category. Does it inspire confidence in you that some's guy fortune depends on who his friends and enemies are each shifting day or that his success is less down to long-term entrepreneurial ability than sitting idle on the gifts of nature or having a silver-spoon in his mouth? It doesn't me.

Yeah i agree, this is the sort of rumour that those that wish to destabilize the club and smile at the thought of bad press will grip to and promote...........oh. Liquidshokk Posted 6 February, 2011 Posted 6 February, 2011 It's all just complete balls. There's so much going on in the club that contradicts this. Only two days ago I was at the stadium hearing that cortese will be joining us on the africa trip. Doesn't sound to me that anyones looking to bail out. IMO anything said in the daily mail shouldn't be allowed on here.
Joensuu Posted 6 February, 2011 Posted 6 February, 2011 I think Hypo is vying for the coveted StuBensonPhilips trophy. We are in a better position than almost any club in the country, and some of our fans don’t think that’s good enough. It’s like holding four aces, and then discarding three of them in the hope that you pick up a straight flush. Of course, I’m sure this will be dismissed as b*llocks by some, after all, I shouldn’t have allowed logic or evidence to get in my way before jumping to a conclusion.

JonnyLove Posted 6 February, 2011 Posted 6 February, 2011 Wow what a crap article. It doesn't even say anything other than just speculation saying may or might and if and but. Why do people by crap like this. In fact if you read it it just reads as if the phoned up a bloke from the ME and said what you think about saints and they said not bad. Then thats it.
shurlock Posted 6 February, 2011 Posted 6 February, 2011 You have just made sweeping generalisations about people based on their racial background and not judging someones ability to be a good owner on a case by case basis. Nothing to do with race, though yes everything should be done on a case-by-case basis. But if you don't think ownership styles and structures reflect the institutions and political-economy of the country in which businessmen are based and operate, then you're a fool and need to stop fiddling with your prozone and do something more valuable. If the way to get ahead in a country is to have cronies in high places rather than create value or focus on the short-term rather than the long-term, do you think it has an effect on the type of entrepreneurs or businessmen produced? It sure does. Has it got anything to do with race? F**k all. People -whatever their background or race- respond to incentives - just different countries reward different things. In countries with weak economic governance, it may be better to act opportunistically, if not be a complete crook. Alas the last time I looked, nepotism, patronage and corruption tended to be more rife in natural-resource rich states. At the same, does it make it harder for a businessman from one country to adapt to another country where success is determined by different skills and competencies? Absolutely. Just look at Cortese who has been used to working with high levels of secrecy and confidentiality - he's a fish out of water when it comes to dealing with the media. But there are also lots of overlaps between his previous work and current position. And do I think people like the Liebherrs who have flourished in a particular culture and set of institutions that focus on the long-term, treats debt with caution and understand the importance of stakeholders - not just shareholders- are better cut out for running a football club that shares many of these characteristics? yes.
Kingsland Nick Posted 6 February, 2011 Posted 6 February, 2011 If Alex Montgomery of the Mail thinks that we are infinitely more valuable than £13m, why is he mentioning a figure as low as £50m, which would be less than 4 times the purchase price?
scott_saints Posted 6 February, 2011 Posted 6 February, 2011 I love the "If they're Arabs they can f**k off" type posts, purely because I can guarantee if an Arab came along and said "We will spend s**t loads to make sure we get to the prem, and then win the champions league"...... everyone would be estatic.
