saintscottofthenortham Posted 4 February, 2011 Share Posted 4 February, 2011 http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/index.php I have been interested in this sort of thing for a while, having worked in or around some sites such as these, but havn't explored quite like these folks do. I have worked in some proper creepy abandoned places but some of the stuff these guys check out is pretty interesting. I am working at a school at the moment in Wilton nr. Salisbury that was vacant for 6 years and although that may not sound like long, I can assure you it was spooky walking through a school that hasn't been set foot in for that long. Anything of any value had long since gone, but all note pads and alot of little text books and stationary, blackboards with the final lessons writing still in place, the Design Tech block with saw dust resting where it fell on the bench... all laid in it's place it was left on the last day of it's final term, exept now it has mould and 6 years worth of decay mixed in with it. Has anyone on here ever done anything quite like what the guys on this forum do? I have heard of a few sites like these that are not too far from Southampton but havn't as yet ever had the opportunity to check them out, nor the balls to really try. The Hospital/Asylum section on 28dayslater is well worth a butchers if your interested.
Crab Lungs Posted 4 February, 2011 Share Posted 4 February, 2011 This sums up Portsmouth pretty much for me http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=53776 However, worryingly, Joanna's doesn't look too different from when I last visited There was a post a few weeks a back where I think Whitey Grandad mentioned a ghost town he intended to visit but never got round. Personally, I find it pretty eerie looking at these photos: http://www.ghosttowngallery.com/

saintscottofthenortham Posted 4 February, 2011 Author Share Posted 4 February, 2011 I done some work in the Southampton Archeological department down in the walls that face Town Quay. An old boy down there used to walk me round the walls, through all the area's not open to the public etc. I was sat in one of the rooms at the back of Gods House (? i think its called) and he popped his head round the corner... "I guess I havn't shown you round here yet?" turned out I was sat in the french prison and he took me up to the archives to show me what sort of ummmm... objects we once used in the area. It was effectively a torture chamber. Never set foot in that room again. I really want to go back now i'm beginning to get into my photography. There is this beautiful sweeping staircase, probably about 70/80 steps that go round in like a 1/3 of a circle, all there is at the top, is a ledge built into the walls, with a 6" diameter hole in it - The Bog. qwertySFC Posted 5 February, 2011 Share Posted 5 February, 2011 Urban x is a network that have investigated quite a few vacant buildings within Southampton area - currently one of the "big " hits at the moment is the Ordnance Survey building - currently causing a lot of interest - It can be quite a dangerous "hobby" however the buzz I guess is to tick off the venues. There is a huge difference in gaining access just to explore as opposed to causing criminal damage there is a un- written set of rules for Urban Exploration - its a big like BASE jumping - the thrill is ticking off the venue . There is very small network within the Southampton area that are extremely interested in Urban Exploration - due to the nature of the hobby it is not well publicised for obvious reasons - It stems from the film 28 days later - if people want to know more follow the forums - the house used for the military part of 28 days later is within 30 minute drive from Southampton - great location. Great feedback cheers fella. I had a look at what they were saying on the forum I posted about ordnance survey. Thy did seem to be a good one as far as they were concerned. There are a few people on there from around Southampton & Pompey so will join the forum and see what I can sus out. I understood pretty quick that the sole intention of getting in just to explore and in no way damage the place or take anything that could be of any value. It's something that has really caught my attention and I think I am going to have to pursue my interest.

saintscottofthenortham Posted 7 February, 2011 Author Share Posted 7 February, 2011 The Vetch Field, Swansea City FC, Swansea, Feburary 2011. Great explore done by two lads on 28DL. Maybe some fans on here who would remember Swansea's old ground...? http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=57557
