Being a supporter from Winchester

A friend of mine said that I should support Winchester because I was born there and I live there but I said that I've supported them all my life. Your thoughts?

There's no crime in supporting the largest team in your local area and having a soft spot for your 'home town' team. The difference in league status is so great that there surely cannot be a conflict of interest.

 

My Dad lives in King's Worthy and sometimes watches Winch play. (Quite a nice walk down to be honest....)

 

Yet he has a season ticket at Saints. Where's the harm?

True, in years to come people in Pompey will support Saints (local Prem team) and have a soft spot for AFC Portsmouth (Wessex League)

Non-League football is a big pile of ****e, full of people who think they're professionals. I gave it up because that level was far too serious, espicially when you hav a job Monday to Friday. Nothing annoys me more then when Solent interrupt Saints to tell me about Dorchester Town V AFC Totton.

It's not really the same thing though, so your friend is talking nonsense. Saints are a football team, whereas Winchester City are barely even semi-pro level. I have watched a few of their games this year, and have been astounded at the poor standard of football in the Wessex League. The quality has nosedived in the last ten years. Worryingly, Winchester are one of the best teams too.
