St Landrew Posted 13 October, 2008 Share Posted 13 October, 2008 How's yours today..? I can pretty much get my iGoogle homepage on demand, but otherwise, mine has been going up and down like a bloody yo-yo. One minute it's fast, next it's absolutely pathetic, or even stopped. I'm having to copy my texts to clipboard, just to make sure I don't lose all the typing, if it grinds to a halt, and I have to refresh the page. Really bloody annoying..! I've posted on here to get more responses. You'll see I've moved it to the appropriate forum though. That's if my connection has been quick enough..!

I'm not after a solution Gully, I'm checking to see if my connection is having isolated problems or whether other people are suffering speed reductions too. But thanks for the input, anyway. As it happens, since my post about the speed problems, it has been as fast as it should be.
St Landrew Posted 13 October, 2008 Author Share Posted 13 October, 2008 If I go anywhere around the BBC Sport websites, after a few pages my connection speed drops like a stone. Now that's definitely odd.
Mr saint Posted 13 October, 2008 Share Posted 13 October, 2008 We got Virgin Broadband a few weeks ago. At first my housemate got 2MB, but we discovered its absolutely crap. Since then we upgraded to 10Mb supposedly yet it's still really crap. I can't watch anything on iPlayer or YouTube for more than about 1 minute before it stops loading, and on MSN rarely do my messages send. Also, it keeps disconnecting about twice a day meaning we have to go and turn the router and modem off and on again at the mains. Anyone know why this could be? Ewell Posted 13 October, 2008 Share Posted 13 October, 2008 Use opendns especially whilst using virgin. http://www.opendns.com/ The speed difference is unreal at times. If using IE7 then turn off the phishing filter as it slows your browsing down a lot. Keep your history, temp files etc cleared down and make sure you run anti spyware now and then. You should have no problem watching iPlayer even with 2mb. I can do it with my piddling 512k with little problems, if I'm not watching during peak browsing hours. You need to have a word with Virgin Tech Support, because you certainly aren't getting anything like the value/speed you should be getting. In fact, I'd stop paying, or at least threaten to, until it's sorted.
