ericofarabia Posted 2 February, 2011 Share Posted 2 February, 2011 Has anybody seen him in concert recently? He is out in Abu Dhabi next week and pondering about going down, but worried it might not live up to my expectations of him, if all the years of substance abuse and age have taken their toll on him, or if he just does an accoustic set nowadays etc. Cheers E

Verbal Posted 2 February, 2011 Share Posted 2 February, 2011 No, he rarely plays acoustic on stage these days. Spends much more time than ever revisiting his Cream/early solo stuff.

Luverly jubbly - now the tough choice Amy Winehouse in Dubai or Eric Clapton in Abu Dhabi - same night FFS. Winehouse will either get arrested or throw a moody at officialdom, so I reckon EC it will be.
mickn Posted 2 February, 2011 Share Posted 2 February, 2011 I saw him on my 17th birthday (1976) at the Gaumont (Mayflower for you youngsters) and he was well out of it then. I would think he would be well worth seeing now.
saint lard Posted 2 February, 2011 Share Posted 2 February, 2011 Saw him when he last did his 21 nights at the royal albert hall. He was great, went to both the blues night and his 'guests' night. Both were equally very good.

Both were equally very good. Yeah, he's good and the band is usually superb - he really knows how to put bands together. I just wish he hadn't lost a certain amount of that fire in his playing - it's all beautifully, technically right, in a slightly enervating way. I don't want to sound critical - I think he's one of the greats. But there's no law that says you have to lose your edge - as Jeff Beck has proved time and again. dubai_phil Posted 2 February, 2011 Share Posted 2 February, 2011 You know the real answer to your dilemna of who to choose Eric? Which one do you get a lift or taxi home from!? I'm sure both concerts after 4 or 5 pints will be fantastic. Roger Waters took 4 pints to become OK & by 6 pints was just awesome man (note only gig here that was perfect without ANY beer was Muse) Was checking the general consensus though last two evenings, would say 80% would pick Alison Moyet & Jools Hollland closely followed by Clapton and would only go to see Amy to get Brownie points from wife/GF
