Michael Howard a visiting Reading Supporter informs me; 'The Cherry Tree pub on Oundle Rd is quite popular with away fans. Although small it is a friendly pub. It costs £2 to park in their car park but you get £2 off a beer if you present the parking ticket at the bar'. Alun Thomas a visiting Wrexham supporter adds; 'We found a better bet than the Cherry Tree was the Palmerston Arms. It is away fan friendly and has around 10 real ales on on offer. This pub is situated around 100 yards further along Oundle Road on the opposite side'. Whilst Gordon Pearson recommends the Peacock, which can be found 'as you come over the River Nene, proceed down London Road past the ground on the left and the pub is situated on the right at the traffic lights next to a KFC drive through'.

Near to the ground is Charters, which is certainly worth a visit. This former Dutch barge, is moored on the River Nene, just a few minutes walk away from London Road, on the left hand side of the bridge, going towards the town centre. Upstairs is a Chinese restaurant, but downstairs there is a bar, which had on my last visit 12 real ales on tap. It was friendly enough and fans were able to take their drinks out onto the river bank, which makes it quite pleasant, when the weather is good. Alternatively, the ground is in walking distance (10 minutes) of the town centre (which is very pleasant and complete with a cathedral) where there are plenty of good pubs to be found. If you are arriving by train then the Brewery Tap near to the station on Westgate, is worth a visit. The home of Oakham Ales, this spacious bar serves good beer, Thai food and allows you views into the brewery itself.

Griffo, I read that. There are a few problems in that, at least 1 of the pubs on there doesn't exist anymore and that I want to know where people are going......

Wasn't specifically aimed at you, I was just putting it in for anyone else.

Palmerston Arms seems as if it'll be the most popular.

If you're driving in and wish to stop outside of Peterborough in a nice village pub then get on the A47 at Wansford and turn off to Ailsworth and Castor (it's the old A47). These are two lovely thatched villages with 3 or 4 country pubs.

That sounds great, but I'm on the train.

Thanks - A perfect summary. But could be tricky getting to the game after this lot!

Do I miss away games or what

I reckon a visit to a few of those places will leave people leaving the ground later not knowing what the final score was as we win by the odd goal in eleven!!!

God I wish I was going to this one. Peterborough's a fantastic town to drink especially for real ales, and cheap as well. Griffo is spot on about Charters and the Brewery Tap.

I'm also on the train and plan to start in the Brewery Tap, looking at it's web-site it looks OK, not a rough-house, and it has several real ales.

I wouldn't say Peterborough is a fantastic town to drink in tbh - it's crap and pubs are few and far between in the centre. Good for shopping though.

charters for starters is a good shout, opposite the stadium large beer garden outside, and the novelty of a barge PUB good for those that like thier real ales. Its just across from the stadium and not to far from town. other than that Palmerston Arms is ok kind of inbetween station and stadium, and brewery tap not bad for a bit of grub pre game.

OK good as coming in from kings cross for 14.46, next to the station is always good.

I'm on the same train as you. I've taken a look at the brewery tap and it looks like a **** bistro.

So I'm going to the Cherry Tree or the one next to it....

And those pubs are mostly crap. Unless you like Yate's, Lloyds and the like :spaz:
