Puncheon

Not sure we have a recall on Puncheon, but if we did then NA should have him in the squad for Saturday

I don't think Puncheon wants to play for Adkins/SFC. Bringing him back would spoil things further and let's face it he will be major ****ed off to be back in L1 from the Premier which will be reflected in how he plays for SFC.

Agreed, and you can include Nathan Dyer in that category - he's had an outstanding season for Swansea.

Dyer didn't leave because he wasn't a good enough player. He left because he acted like a little ****.

Long term, he's a better player than puncheon IMO, but I still wouldn't want him back. (Puncheon will fade again at whichever clubs he joins. As someone else said, cash in now before the buyer see the cracks)

Why is this thread still bumping along the bottom ?

Puncheon is hiss-torrrrr-eeee where SFC is concerned.

Absolutely f**king mental.

Let's disrupt the squad and screw our run-in, just as it looks like it is coming together, shall we ?

Yep. Recalling him must be just about the most bonkers proposal I've read on here. It even overshadows Dalek's posts about Hoddle.

Apparently Pardew is tracking him.

Make him pay through the nose, NC...

did it ever get answered, why this thread is still going? It was a fair point. ;)

Interesting comment in Q&A section at the end of the Football League paper about Puncheon from Neal Bishop, now of Notts County, his former team-mate at Barnet:

Q: Who is the best player you have played with?

A: Ability wise I will go for Jason Puncheon, but he's a funny lad.

The way I read the text, I don't think he means funny ha ha either. Could certainly back up suggestions that he's a disruptive influence wherever he goes...

Oh yes, I cant see that could be taken any other way to be honest.

  • 3 weeks later...
watching him against arsenal now. lovely ball through which led to blackpools goal.playing well. how much would he be worth now roughly?

Less than Lallana and Chamaberlain. :)

It really does say a lot for 3rd tier Saints, that one of their squad players can start games and score goals whilst on loan to a team in the Premier League.

His play for the first goal was class but he made a mess of a later chance with a sloppy touch.

He is a good Championship standard player but will never be consistent enough for Prem IMO. Compare him with the consistency shown by Lallana and that is the difference.

If we can convince some Prem sides to part with circa £1m for him then that will be excellent business.

Will be delighted to see him go - didn't look like he responded well to the pressure of playing for one of the bigger clubs in the division, mentally fragile to say the least (can't respect any player who says they are not "mentally prepared" to play for the club), and clearly Adkins wants nothing to do with him.

Talented guy, but lets pass him on for a profit and invest wisely.

+1

He's had a good season on loan by all standards, so there'll be plenty of teams after him and prepared to part with a bit of cash to get him. Plymouth will be kicking themselves if we sell him for £1m - we got him for peanuts from them.

You said it. Dyer left because we as supporters have no idea what makes a quality player, so we dissed him so much that he left and did better elsewhere -like so many others.

Looked shocking on MOTD, a couple of blocked long range efforts that looked flashy but really they were hit and hopes, and letting Diaby get past him so easily for the third goal (the rest of the 'Pool team have got a fantastic work ethic that he obviously hasn't bought into). He can't be bored already, surely?

IMO Dyer wouldn't make our current team.

He got dissed by many for the same reason that Bradley Wright-Phillips did; firstly he's a thief and secondly, like B W-P he wasn't all that good when he was here, so he was loaned out. At the time, he also had to go because we needed the money.

When you talk about "we as supporters having no idea what makes a quality player" presumably you don't include yourself.

There are many facets that go towards what makes a "quality" player, including mental attitude, ability to fit into a team, ambition, character and desire, etc. No doubt players like Dyer, Puncheon and B-WP do have some skills, but that doesn't make them good players in the wider context.

Also, I missed the bit where we actually got to pick the team.

Dammit, I could have dropped Lambert for the last three games... when he's been much improved ;)

Really????

I thought Dyer left due to a combination of the Club needing to get a striker in (part of the Robertson deal) then to raise some funds to keep us going to the end season (through loan fees from Swansea) and then the Club needing funds during the close season to keep us afloat until a buyer came in after going in to administration, as well as wanting to try and get a regular game.

Jan Poortakabin didn't fancy him at the start of his tenure (I think Dyer started 1 of the first 10 games that season), Dyer wanted some first team football and we were short of cash.

Not sure us fans ever really played much part in the decision LOL.

Yeah, but dont let eccentricities such as facts get in the way of a good Über fan p*ssing contest, Steve.
