Puncheon

There seems to be a remarkable amount of praise for Puncheon on this thread and probably more than his contribution deserved. His first touch was 'fine' but his vision was poor along with his enthusiasm. He very rarely affected a game in a score changing way and I don't just mean he didn't score, he didn't assist either. He's a bit of a 'look at me' pretty pretty boy but not football savvy or particularly skillfull. His shooting was nothing short of terrible and runs into dangerous positions were non existant as was his defending.......= lazy

A player of dubious quality and would agree with posters mentioning his suspect attitude.

Keep your expectations low and you won't be dissapointed.

Good luck with BT always loved him here.

Glad to be rid of him, as with the general theme his game against Bolton in the League cup was pretty awesome and since then hasnt done much positive in a saints shirt. Against Blackpool was his only other reasonable appearance this season and thats because he got sat down, shown a Chaplow tape and shouted at till he got the message to just play like that for the match...

We'll be rid of him by the summer to anyone

Temperament: Thought he was too big for us after his spell at Millwall. Don't let the door hit you in the gigantic arse as you leave Jason.

Talent. I doubt he's Premiership quality, even in League One he drifted in and out of form. Tries too many wayward shots on goal. I saw him play for us at home to Huddersfield last season and he was very good - but seen very little of him since.

He's your problem now, let's see if Holloway can get the best out of him.

Hello lads, Blackpool fan. What's the story and what's he like? Cheers.

On his day he can be mesmerising but he can be very inconsistent and you never quite know which version will turn up. He was automatic first choice under Alan Pardew but his bad luck really was the emergence of Chamberlain; somehow as a result his relationship with Nigel Adkins deteriorated to the point that he rarely made a start this year, perhaps understandably because he hates being thought of as second choice to a 17 yo kid.

But Adkins has had no choice with our new 'Whizzo' Oxo as our new Chairman clearly wants to see the fruits of his investment in the Academy pay off in terms of young players making it to Saints first team and staying here for the long haul, unlike Walcott, Bale & Bridge who were gone as soon as they were out of nappies.

He did well for Millwll and he'll do well for you if he can stand Holloway's mumbo-jumbo nonsense.

Lots oh here have an axe to grind over jason Puncheon, I don't - he's a pretty decent player and like ll of us needs an arm around the shoulders from time to time and a whisper in the ear that he is truly valued.

Ex-Saints players are littered all over the Premier League and the Championship, having moved on from here because "they were not good enough for us!".....

You work that one out. Good luck and I hope he helps keep you up, otherwise we'll see you down here with your first team next season.

Probably unfair to some, but this is allegedly the same tosser who showed his respect to Markus' legacy by wearing jeans to the memorial service.

AAAAAARGH FFS NOT AGAIN !!!!

He didn't do that. There is a link to the team getting off the coach and he's clearly wearing dark trousers and a dark shirt and maybe a black tie under a black jumper. Looked fine to me.

Anyway.

Puncheon... predominantly left footed, likes to cut inside on the right wing and bend the ball into the far corner, occasionally does something similar on the left wing with his right foot, which doesn't make much sense when you think about it.

Played well for MK Dons against Saints last season in Johnstone's Paint Trophy when he was on loan there, leading to us signing him (from Plymouth). No-one was that bothered to see him go, we couldn't figure out why.

Started well for Saints, busy, hard working, doing the stuff mentioned above. After a few weeks his application seemed to fade a bit, and instead of moving the ball quickly, he was taking an extra touch here and there and generally being held responsible for slowing down our attacks and making us easier to defend against.

By the start of this season, still under Pardew, he was targeted by a few boo-boys and was definitely responsible for a lot of frustration from a few loose passes, bad decisions and he'd also stopped scoring.

Then Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain started doing his thing, and with Lallana on the other side when he got fit after a couple of games, Puncheon wasn't first choice any more.

Pardew got the boot, and in the first couple of games under Adkins Puncheon got a chance and showed a spark of what he'd been like at first for Saints, working harder, moving the ball more quickly and generally looking a lot more interested (like the rest of the team, actually, Adkins certainly got them started). But with Ox-Cham and Lallana ahead of him he was a bit on the fringes and obviously got fed up with that.

For whatever reason, he was unexpectedly loaned to Millwall, and from what I saw there he played more centrally and definitely played better than he did for Saints at any point. Scored a hat-trick in one game, all from the centre/left midfield position.

Came back to Saints, not first choice (as indicated by his selection in what was a weak Saints team v Blackpool reserves in the FA Cup), did ok in that FA Cup game and is then rumoured to have thrown a massive wobbler and mysteriously absent from the squad for the next two games before getting loaned to Blackpool.

Clearly has a huge ego, I don't doubt he's a sulker, and he's never proven at that level. As many others have said, likely to look decent at first (if he starts) and then fade - he's exactly the sort of player who will give Holloway problems he doesn't need, both good and bad.

Puncheon reminded me of a slightly better version of Ryan Smith.

Started well enough here then faded.

Undoubted skills but fannies around too much. Certainly not a tackler.

Have a soft spot for the Tangerines especially when their mascot used to be a live duck (no idea why)

Also forgot that Stephen Crainey joins the Ex Saints contingent of Brett/Euell and now Beattie.

Blackpool v Stoke will be interesting for all Saints fans

Blackpool now losing. I hope Blackpool fans realise the honeymoon period won't last. Unbelievable that he scored in the Premiership. Had he not thrown the strop, he'd have played against Man Utd last week.

Hey ho, glad he's gone, the arrogant, big bummed, inconsistant git.

Wore his heart on his sleeve, hard worker, never gave up and great guy with no attitude. Not the best player by a long shot but I liked him.

As mentioned earlieer, that's because he is on loan. Wait until you give him a contract, then what we call the 'Saganowski Factor' creeps in.

Scores against Chelsea tonight.

Excellent news if true. Couldn't be more pleased for him too, proves many critics wrong IMHO. Maybe weshould have pandered to his whims and cashed in on AOC, it may not be too late Nicola.

His attitude showed towards us was total tosh and he deserved all the grief he got in the end.

As mentioned, the better he does in the prem, the more his value will rise (Assuming Blackpool haven't stiffed us with a pre-arranged sale price). Also his attitude means he most likely wouldn't be performing to the same standard, where he still here

86 mins GOAL Blackpool 1-3 Chelsea That is the goal of the night from Puncheon. Lovely little move as Crainie wins the ball on the left and plays in a nice pass to Beattie, who lays it off to Puncheon. He finishes brilliantly, low and hard into the far corner.

Three ex Saints, who would have thought it!
