It certainly has not helped the leagues the transfer window.

Just further encouraged the quantity over quality attitude that especially the PL seems to be engulfed in.

Both deals are big gambles, imo.

They could both work out brilliantly, but that's a lot of money to punt on future success.

35 million for Carroll is absolutely ludicrous and quite frankly Liverpool are probably the only club who would pay that.

To put it into perspective David Villa, one of the best strikers in Europe was signed by Barce for £34 million. To put Carroll into the same bracket as Villa is hilarious and sums up everything that's wrong with English football.

The only way I can see this is ever going to stop is if everyone boycotts Sky and cancels their subscription. The money would soon dry up and the clubs who have spent based on their future earnings from the Sky deal would end up with huge unmanageable debts.

Sadly, as long as people keep accepting the extortionate cost of Sky subscription and ticket prices the madness will continue. It's all about supply and demand.

Agreed that it's TV money that is driving the crazy prices but it's the overseas revenue that makes up the bulk of the revenue that the Prem brings in. Just getting consumers in the UK to stop subscribing to Sky won't really make any difference unless the rest of the world follows suit.

Liverpool haven't really broken the bank for Carroll by paying £35million. Their January business was quite shrewd in that they have virtually swapped Torres and Babel (one who didn't want to play, and the other who has never really looked the part), for Suarez and Carroll (both very promising, both young and keen to do well).

I am pretty sure they would not have sold Torres if they didn't get Carroll. Whereas Newcastle just wanted the money and made Pardew look like the boardroom apologist that he is.

I know where your coming from. My OP was using Carroll as an example to highlight how crazy transfer fees etc have become. Also its worth noting that Torres's fee will be payed in 4 yearly installments.

I would assume the Suarez and Carroll deals are done similarly.

They only way I think it might stop is, as someone else said, pay the fee in full straight out.
