Jonathan Forte signs - official

Lambert and Barnard can hopefully keep on banging in a few for us (and Lallana, Guly, AOC and Chaplow) but they stood out against ManUnited by being slow in body and mind. Forte apparently has plenty of pace and so solves part of that problem. He could prove to be a useful impact sub this year and grow into a potent squad member next year. Adkins knows him, his weakness and his potential; that's good enough for me.

I'm sorry, how is there any negativity about this signing?!?! Absolutely crackers

We've signed two players with strength and pace who can play on either wing or up front.....exactly what our squad needed....yet still people complain.

Unbelievable

Spectacularly underwhelmed. I'm not really convinced by either of the prevailing arguments here.

- 'He's not here to score goals' - his goal/game ratio is not only *significantly* inferior to every other attack-minded player we have, it's worse than Hammond's, worse than Chaplow's, worse than *Fonte's* for christ's sake. I don't care what else you bring to the team, if as an attack minded player you can't outscore a centre-back, that's not good enough. It would be bad enough if our strikers at the moment were prolific, but with Lambert currently going through arguably his driest period as a professional, we simply cannot afford to carry a non-scoring attacker.

- 'he's strong, athletic, just like Kenwyne was, we can teach him the rest' - not convincing on two grounds. Firstly, Forte is already 24 and by no means a rookie, he was playing for England as an U19, he has most likely already reached his peak and it is an unspectacular one. And secondly, we are not an established, fairly 'safe' Premiership club as we were when we signed Jones (who, incidentally, didn't exactly turn into the 'first name on the team sheet' anyway). We *must* get promoted this season, or will likely face the departure of our two brightest prospects in the summer. We do not need to be taking a punt on a player at a time like this.

I really, *really* hope I'm wrong on this one. But if we miss promotion by a point or two, I'm going to be extremely disappointed that we did not do more impactful business this window.

idiotic the moans. Have a look at the squad ffs - and compare to anyone in the league! All we were missing was impact pace / winger - and have signed two from division above!

For Christ's sake - will you stop posting such common sense please? This is no place for rational thought.

LOL @ some of the users on this forum. They have pi**ed and moaned that we havnt got any pace, NA has identified that and brought in 2 players who posses pace, one of who'm has it in abundance, yet still they pi** and moan. What a f*cking joke some of you are.

Maybe we should have done what those other clubs that are buying have done, and spent £7 Million on Craig Mackail-Smith? Because if Carroll is worth £36 Million, that's about right huh?

The January Transfer window is notoriously difficult. We made what was like a £5 Million signing when Lalla signed, then Chaplow, then Guly, then N'Guessan on loan, now our 3rd permanent signing a little whippet who NA think he can get the absolute best out of. I'm sure NA wouldn't have said all that he did on the OS if he wasn't sure if this lad had some serious ability.

FFS we should have signed pacy wingers from the Prem and paid minimum £5million for each of them, it's clear the Liebherr millions have dried up...etc

Sounds brilliant......

I thought Adkins was playing Forte this season because he didn't have many strikers and was forced to do so.

He's only gone and bought him.

NUTTER.

And here's me thinking that he is a good manager.

The last time Adkins surprised me like this was when I turned up at St James' Park for a midweek match expecting S****horpe United / Adkins to put some effort in for the travelling supporters instead of just rolling over because we had two home games coming up.

The man's an absoulute fool.

Ha, of course you will... Problem is your opinion is b*llocks.... You don´t KNOW anything so shut your stupid trap... Watch him play (if you go), then pass judgement. RETARD.

Hes fast, he gives additional options and backup for Lallana and AOC. He was in the England U19s and has played regularly at championship level. We're in Lg1. How much more do you expect?

Well considering the names being talked about (and considering some of the names we signed last summer) I was possibly expecting someone with a better pedigree.

So you're choosing to base your assessment of our new signing on the bitter internet rantings of some Northerner over the opinion and judgement of the manager of SFC?

Just checking

your comment is better than mine :)

To many morons on this board, makes me angry.

I very much doubt that he is writing him off before actually seeing him play. At the moment it's an initial reaction and one of the things you use for an initial reaction is the comments of people who watch him week in week out.

a good judge of a new signings credentials is his old clubs opinion - the general response from scunny is one of glee and amazement that we have signed him. 95% are delighted hes gone! ill give him a chance (i never said i wouldnt) but not excited and question if he makes us bettter - time will tell

Exactly and yet for some reason you are branded moronic purely because people don't like your point of view! Crazy.

We were fairly underwhelmed by signings like Harding, Antonio, Otsemobor, Seaborne and Martin in the last year or so, but they've all come in and done a pretty decent JFU. These aren't the Lowe days of making pointless signings the manager has never heard of, like Forecast, Pulis and Gasmi. We signed Forte because Adkins clearly rates him, having already managed him at a previous club. Obviously there is something about him that Adkins likes otherwise he wouldn't have bothered. That should be good enough for anyone on here, regardless of what wiki or any of the Scunny forums say.

FM stats are shyte, so he must be shyte. Lolz

Our squad was good enough for promotion before we signed N'Guessan. Signing these two makes us complete to compete in League One.

Looking forward to seeing N'Guessan and Forte play. Forte and Fonte, how ever will we tell them apart...

Well happy.

It doesn't sound like he's completely writing him off, but of all the Scunny forum comments he chose to post on here, he chose one of the least balanced ones...one which seems to suit his agenda.

Forte might turn out to be a load of rubbish, but one thing's for sure when we're looking to bring pace off the bench to replace a tired AOC, he's surely going to be a better bet than our current option in that scenario...Danny Butterfield!

Just because Adkins likes a player does not mean his quality is beyond question.

I agree that it's good to get old club's opinion, but all the comments you've posted so far seem to suggest he's some kind of 'joke' Ali Dia type player, when in fact he's their first choice winger. It's surely better to get a more balanced view from one of their less reactionary posters

If he's that bad, why's he even been in the team at all?

He's probably better than the other options to replace AOC. I'm only speculating whether he was the absolute best available given some of the other names that were being talked about and I was speculating whether we are being fully backed with regards transfers considering the amounts we were spending in comparison to this year. I appreciate that we had to sign some more last year but what I am saying is that Forte is clearly more of a gamble than the proven quality such as a Fonte style signing (or CMS). I think we should be minimising risk seeing as it is so vital for s to win promotion this season.

There are some crazy morons that have posted on here asking for us to sign players with proven pedigree, as much as i would have liked that to happen and would imagine that Saints would have liked that to happen it was never likely to was it.

Do you fancy coming to sign for saints ?? I know your playing first team football ATM but i would like you as backup for Lallana and Chamberlain ?

I mean seriously ?

I find it quite amusing that some are using the response of a fans forum to judge a new signing. Sure, it's a gauge of how well liked he is at his current club, but we all have short memories!!! As a forum we have been a great judge of a departing player haven't we?!?!?! Fuller and delap for starters were seen by many as hopeless with no future when they left here - I am sure some said they would drive them to Stoke - oh but wait, they are still holding down places in a reasonable premier league side!!! Not to mention our more recent experience with puncheon - who some boo'd, millwall loved and who is now playing in a mid table premier league team! Yep forums are great judges! Give him a chance FFS!

Incredible morons on here that think a few posters on a Scunny forum represent the whole fanbase and provide an accurate assessment of a player! AND for some unfathomable reason these same nutters cannot seem to come to terms with the simple fact that (a) this lad might flourish among the better players we have in our squad (yes, they are collectively better than the Scunny squad) and (b) he will also benefit from the far better coaching facilities this club offers.

The club has basically answered all the questions asked of it over the transfer window - players we wanted retained - we've retained. New blood with pace on the wings and a striker...one purchased and one loaned...done deal. And we've kept Oxo when everyone was convinced he would go, which is a fantastic show of commitment from NC who really does believe in the long-term plan.

Frankly, if you're disappointed with the outcomes of this notoriously difficult window it's obvious common sense has somehow eluded you. We need to give the boy 2-3 games to settle in before the boo boys get to work on him.

Some folks on here really live in fairy land. Moan groan and whine on, yes we have a fantastic stadium and everything about the club appears all glossy and smart. But in reality we are a league ONE team, sooner of later the penny is going to drop that we will not be signing Torres, Maluda, Messi, Fabregas, Xabi or anyone of that ilk for quite a while.

As for all the slagging of our latest signing, again some folks are like sheep just going with the herd, or so they believe. Guly looked a pile of poo when he first turned up, now everyone sings his name. Puncheon looked the mutts nuts at MK when played against them, we bought him and a few displays apart the guy could not hit a cows backside with a Banjo overall. Chaplow could not get a look in at Preston when Ferguson Jnr rocked up there, gets a loan spell with us then signed because he been an excellent performer for us. Claus had never scored for us until Sturrock had a few words with him. MLT greatest player ever in a Saints shirt, yet when Hoddle turned up all of a sudden he was no longer worthy of a starting place in the team. For the slow ones: anyone see the theme here?

Every manager has his way of doing things and certain players fit in with this style and others do not, so while some signings may be reported as goodbye to bad rubbish from the relevant fans forums. That very same player can be instantly transformed by the system the manager who has bought him plays.................... So let's give young Forte a fair crack of the whip, before we all pass judgement on him (oh and that is more than just one game)!

Antonio and Papa have been replaced. We are complete. Now all the ******** has stopped we can get on and win the league and with the squad we have now, anything else is an epic fail.

Maybe, but if you offered me second place right now - I'd bite yer 'and orf.
