BodminSaint Posted 30 January, 2011 Posted 30 January, 2011 Maybe but it also smacks of delusion - as if these things are to be expected when you go to smaller teams. This is no one-off. They've misfired all season and many of their weaknesses were exposed once again yesterday by L1 nobodies. First-team or not, many of these players have featured regularly this season -either way, they don't have the depth or look anything like the uniteds of old. They still have the right culture and mentality which can paper up the cracks- just as Liverpool managed in the late 1980s; but that can't sustain you forever. Unless they clear their debt and/or get taken over by rich qataris or something, I think this is the beginning of the end of their dominance. I would be worried if I was a manure supporter right now. This, as i said to some plastics last night, if thats your 2nd team then you`ve had it. the glory days are numbered...
Deppo Posted 30 January, 2011 Posted 30 January, 2011 This, as i said to some plastics last night, if thats your 2nd team then you`ve had it. the glory days are numbered... This is true, especially if they play their 2nd team for every remaining game this season.
Draino76 Posted 30 January, 2011 Posted 30 January, 2011 (edited) If I saw Owen in a club I would happily smash a bottle into his face. I'm not a violent person, but there is something about the way I imagine he wou;d look at me. Owen is small too; so very bullyable. Edited 30 January, 2011 by Draino76
Barry the Badger Posted 30 January, 2011 Posted 30 January, 2011 I love it, we complain at the slightest hint of big club arrogance yet when we go to Brentford, Tranmere, Yeovil we all happily bang on about it being a big game for them, dodgy pitches, etc.
Turkish Posted 30 January, 2011 Posted 30 January, 2011 (edited) Respect has to be earnt. We didn't win yesterday. We are in League 2. Apart from this season and a bit of last season we have played sh*t for years and don't deserve any respect for getting relegated twice into League 1. We have had a great youth team but have always sold or released decent players, many of which are still in the premiership long after we disappeared and we replaced them with tripe. We don't deserve any respect for that either. We had two dutch clowns in charge, managers like Stuart Gray, Steve Wigley and Redknapp and Lowe and Wilde making us look like complete suckers and we don't deserve any respect for that. We sacked Pardew for no official reason and although Cortese might have a good reason we never knew it and we don't deserve any respect for that. The fans on here boo decent players like Puncheon, Fuller and Davis until they are sore in the throat because most of our fans know nothing about football and we start threads like 'Has Adkins lived up to your expectations?' after about two games in charge and no pre-season and we don't deserve respect for that. People genuinely believe that we will hire Martin O'Neill and Michael Owen and say that Lambert is better than Torres and we don't deserve respect for that. Need I continue? We will only be respected when we are in the Premiership and we beat decent premiership teams or we win a cup or all three. Do any of you honestly respect Man Utd? Or Chelsea, despite all they have won over the years? Southampton won the FA Cup once over thirty years ago. Sure, bigger clubs steal our decent young players, but then we do it to other clubs too. Sure, Portsmouth spent money they didn't have to win the FA Cup but we spent money we didn't have too and came about 24 away from going out of existance, and we didn't even win the FA Cup. So many Saints fans are completely deluded. Get it into your heads, other players, managers and fans don't give a flying f*ck about Southampton. Just as we don't about any other clubs. We abuse Brighton fans, we abuse Bournemouth fans, they have struggled and deserve our respect for what they have achieved this season. Do we show them respect? Do we f*ck. Stop being such crybabies. I am ashamed to be a saints fan sometimes. You are all more annoying than Michael Owen is or ever possibly could be. This is probably the best and most accurate post i have ever seen. If i was wearing a hat i'd take it off to you. The only thing missing is the ridiculous comment is the summer that Saints are the most attractive team for a player to join outside of the Champions league sides and we can sign who we want. Not to mention the fans who were/are incapable of realising what gems NC/ML are - preferring instead to get hot and bothered over installment plans or question every decision they've mae in paranoid detail. What was the rationale? something along the lines of not wanting to be a big club because the heart and soul was being ripped out of southampton. Give it a rest with the holier than thou BS.. Deppo Posted 30 January, 2011 Posted 30 January, 2011 I've changed my mind. Michael Owen should have spent his entire interview saying how great Southampton are compared to everything else.
Crispypie Posted 30 January, 2011 Posted 30 January, 2011 Thought he looked ordinary until Nani and Giggs came on, even then he didnt stand out. Maybe he was a bit miffed at having to be saved by them because they were going to loose with just him.

ottery st mary Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 Deppo Good stuff.. To be fair you write like the Echo journalist....Good solid factual article about every five years or so.. PS You still doing Deaths ,Weddings and Christenings page for the Echo?
Micky Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 Everyone who agrees with me is an arsehole. Ahhh, you're back.
John B Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 They hardly ran away with it in the last half hour. We came back at them after they equallised. It was only injury time plus a few minutes before where we struggled to get the ball from them. I agree with the original post. It never fails to shock and anger me about just how deep the aura of arrogance is surrounding Manchester United. Oh, and they still needed f**k of a lot of help from the referee. A model professional footballer talks sense unlike some posters on here. Yes we did slow down it was quite obvious and Man U got on top and scored twice. Other teams in League 1 do the same when we play them
hughieslastminutegoal Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 (edited) Did they? Thought the ref was very good yesterday. I expected him to be Manure biased but he wasn't. Only gave 1 card, Morgan was fortunate not to get one. Thought Owen's post match comments were reasonable as well, all he was saying was that the fitness of lower league teams (in general) begins to tell after 60 minutes or so, and frankly he generally has a point, although that wasn't wholly the point yesterday. We losy yesterday because they changed their system and we couldn't cope with the width in the late second half, I don't think we ran ourselves ragged in the 1st half, we played very controlled patient football. It's not really the fitness issue, but how much better top teams make the ball do the work, and that saves them energy. We played a good style of football but anyone with any honesty can see that they thought faster, passed snappier, controlled the ball quicker, were more aware of where their teammates and the opposition were, seeming not to have to look. Class gives you that edge. Owen's header was a classic example of where class won out - instantaneous reaction. Compare that with Guly's simpler header which he put over. We gave them a good test, but they played pretty much within their comfort zone most of the time. And maybe their 2nd team isn't as good as they have been in previous years, but they still beat us, and in my opinion the feeling in their dressing room would not have been anything like "we just got away with it" or "we're totally knackered". Nevertheless we looked much more composed, and showed more class against United that Notts County did against City. My main complaint was that Lambert still looks laboured, and sluggish; jumping for headers, and moving off his marker he just looked rather slow and heavy. sammysaint Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 Owen annoyed me celebrating his goal. we are a lower league club but were hopefully be in the championship next season and in 3/4 years time people will be jealous of our club as were be a half decent prem team.

Avenue Saint Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 the little **** knew exactly what he was saying. How is it by saying "these lower league teams" he is being proffessional, he's having a swipe the little ****.. Lack of class
