...and his post match condescending interview.

'When you come to these lower league clubs...blah blah blah'...

Listen you sanctimonious over-rated short arse, remember that statement and the rest of the tone of your interview when you're looking for a club in six months time.

In 6-12 months you'll be wishing you played for us.

(The above comments may not be agreed upon by some, but it makes me feel better). :D

I thought his comments were honest and accurate so I have no idea why the drama queens in our fan base are throwing a hissy fit over this one. Owen for me showed yesterday what a waste of fantastic talent he is at United. He is exactly the sort of payer Saints should look to sign when we get to The Championship and then the Premier League!

"They played well - they're flying high in their division," Owen said.

"In the FA Cup, no matter what standard you're playing against it's always really tough for the first 45 minutes, an hour.

"Then, inevitably, the better quality... obviously they've got to run more to keep up with us. Then they tire and it's often the way that the better teams come good in the last half-hour.

"We played in the Carling Cup earlier in the season against S****horpe away and it was similar. They went a goal ahead and it was only in the last half an hour that we ran away with it."

They hardly ran away with it in the last half hour. We came back at them after they equallised. It was only injury time plus a few minutes before where we struggled to get the ball from them.

I agree with the original post. It never fails to shock and anger me about just how deep the aura of arrogance is surrounding Manchester United.

Oh, and they still needed f**k of a lot of help from the referee.

Owens biggest footballing mistake was leaving Liverpool obviously the financial aspects of it swayed his decision. he hasn't done a thing since then apart from pick up his inflated wages for little return,he didn't do anything of note last night that is going to convince any manager that he's still got it.

Anybody deluded enough to think that he will come here as part of the oxo deal(something I've heard a couple of times this week from fans) need to wake up,he will never leave the north of England because of his stables which is his true passion.

All these young players like Owen who are thrust into the big time at a very premature age are usually burnt out by their mid 20's (oxo take note),ok they might become millionaires very quickly but greed takes over and replaces your desire to play football.I think young players today should look at Ryan giggs as an excellent example of how to become a successful footballer and not Michael Owen.

Any manager who is dreaming of signing Owen and hoping that he will once again become the player he was at 18/19/20 is just conning the fans IMO,I certainly wouldn't want him here, what did he actually do last night?....if you take away the goal and the interview I probably heard his name mentioned 2 or 3 times.

The fella is a greedy little git with a chip on his shoulder about how little he has achieved in his footballing career.he could have been great but he blew it I'm afraid.

The best team lost and the best player got MOM.

Saints fans are so precious. The SAF thread about not mentioning Matt Le Tissier in a pre-match interview is another classic example.

True, we seem to get shirty about virtually every article about us at the moment.. All he's saying is we played well but Man U are essentially the best team in England and we're in League One. Which as far as I know is true.

Posted

I must admit I thought he was just being honest, and recognised it was only when we tired that their superior quality won through.

Aside from that I thought that for most of the game he was only one who looked like scoring for them......agree with Ewell about him being the kind of player we need to look to sign in the CCC upwards. Shame it'll probably never happen.

Loved the last line of the OP though. Made me smile! Good on ya!

What he said, get over youselves you deluded fools; It's getting embarrassing.

He can say what he wants but he was total crap and given a lesson in midlield by Chaplow and Schneiderlin with his total lack of pace and ball control - however one sharp chance in the biox and it is in the back of the net.

Oh, and they still needed f**k of a lot of help from the referee.

Did they? Thought the ref was very good yesterday. I expected him to be Manure biased but he wasn't. Only gave 1 card, Morgan was fortunate not to get one. Thought Owen's post match comments were reasonable as well, all he was saying was that the fitness of lower league teams (in general) begins to tell after 60 minutes or so, and frankly he generally has a point, although that wasn't wholly the point yesterday. We losy yesterday because they changed their system and we couldn't cope with the width in the late second half, I don't think we ran ourselves ragged in the 1st half, we played very controlled patient football.

Forgetting he hit the post in the 1st half, and actually was probably best player during the first 45 minutes (not that that was difficult, as they were made to look awful by us)

Did you stop watching at half time, if you thought the ref wasnt biased ?

Thirteen 50/50 decisions in a row went Man U's way before we got one. The ref was appalling, especially the sliding tackle decisions.

As for Michael Owen, weird to see him being relegated to that deep-lying striker role that Ferguson killed Alan Smith's career with.

They had three chances plus Owen's cross, and we only looked outclassed when we decided to rest 3 players and concede the win at 2-1 - whereas we did the same thing to then for 10 minutes at the start of the second half when everything was to play for.

I think Owen CDAJFU but if we sign that useless turd Obertan I'd have a fit.

Get a grip fellas..

Cry when other managers miss out a player from our youth set up

Cry when an opposing player makes biased comments about his team

Cry when an article, game highlights is not 100% centred around saints..

I suppose you think anyone who accuses the ref yesterday of being biased is "precious" too ?

Nothing. But the insinuation is that when "you come to these lower league sides" they rough you up, get in your faces and typically with the help of a sh*tty pitch try to outdo you with raw power, set-pieces and the odd lucky break. Couldn't be further away from the truth as for a good portion of the game, we outplayed them playing football.

Owen can't help it - he is a walking muppet - lives his life in cliches. I assume you're not so stupid to miss the insinuation.

Generally, thought the officials were OK.. A couple of decisions went their way..

Don't see anyone having a go at the ref for the free kick Barnard got for diving when he went up for a header???

The officals were OK in the first half. The change in emphasis in the second half was f**king bizarre in its contrast.

I really wonder if Atkinson was "spoken to" at half time.

No howlers but the offcials were dire - so many 50-50s were called against us in decent, breaking positions and our forwards were given zero-protection -every neutral i spoke to afterwards (admittedly they all probably hate manu) thought so as well.

Seriously, the ref gave thirteen consecutive borderline decisions in their favour, I started counting after the first few. We got two bolted on definite fouls in that time, they got a couple in their favour that I couldn't argue with, but every single one of the "could give it" decisions went in Man U's favour.

The worst was the sliding tackle one but they got two or three corners and throws that were ours as well as us not being allowed to tackle them whilst they were shoving our players over left right and centre.

Posted (edited)

We are L1 at the moment and they are the most successful club in the World. It's not his place to jiz over how well Saints played for 65 minutes. He was not really disrespectful so that's fine. When we have the depth of squad to match them, I feel sure that within the next 10 years we will be on level terms and beating them again.

PS edit: I do believe the ref was spoken to by Ferguson at half-time though. Not that he had anything to complain about, but he does that to unsettle the ref and ensure when a decision needs to be made there is no question of him siding with Man Utd's opposition.

Sorry, but I thought Owen was a little ungracious with his comments. What he said was done in a Nazeem type way with a chip on both shoulders.

The truth is that we dominated 2 thirds of the match and they had to resort to bringing on two players valued more than our entire squad to get the game back.

I think people need to come to grips that we are actually now a lower league club, in the football league, and small gravy to teams in the premiership.

Us beating blackpool was a ''giant'' killing. I see no issues what what Owen was saying other than the truth.

What do you expect him to say? Why as a supporter base are we always looking to be spoon fed and provided with compliments?

Maybe but it also smacks of delusion - as if these things are to be expected when you go to smaller teams. This is no one-off. They've misfired all season and many of their weaknesses were exposed once again yesterday by L1 nobodies. First-team or not, many of these players have featured regularly this season -either way, they don't have the depth or look anything like the uniteds of old. They still have the right culture and mentality which can paper up the cracks- just as Liverpool managed in the late 1980s; but that can't sustain you forever. Unless they clear their debt and/or get taken over by rich qataris or something, I think this is the beginning of the end of their dominance. I would be worried if I was a manure supporter right now.

Respect has to be earnt.

We didn't win yesterday. We are in League 2.

Apart from this season and a bit of last season we have played sh*t for years and don't deserve any respect for getting relegated twice into League 1.

We have had a great youth team but have always sold or released decent players, many of which are still in the premiership long after we disappeared and we replaced them with tripe. We don't deserve any respect for that either.

We had two dutch clowns in charge, managers like Stuart Gray, Steve Wigley and Redknapp and Lowe and Wilde making us look like complete suckers and we don't deserve any respect for that.

We sacked Pardew for no official reason and although Cortese might have a good reason we never knew it and we don't deserve any respect for that.

The fans on here boo decent players like Puncheon, Fuller and Davis until they are sore in the throat because most of our fans know nothing about football and we start threads like 'Has Adkins lived up to your expectations?' after about two games in charge and no pre-season and we don't deserve respect for that.

People genuinely believe that we will hire Martin O'Neill and Michael Owen and say that Lambert is better than Torres and we don't deserve respect for that.

Need I continue? We will only be respected when we are in the Premiership and we beat decent premiership teams or we win a cup or all three. Do any of you honestly respect Man Utd? Or Chelsea, despite all they have won over the years? Southampton won the FA Cup once over thirty years ago. Sure, bigger clubs steal our decent young players, but then we do it to other clubs too. Sure, Portsmouth spent money they didn't have to win the FA Cup but we spent money we didn't have too and came about 24 away from going out of existance, and we didn't even win the FA Cup.

So many Saints fans are completely deluded. Get it into your heads, other players, managers and fans don't give a flying f*ck about Southampton. Just as we don't about any other clubs. We abuse Brighton fans, we abuse Bournemouth fans, they have struggled and deserve our respect for what they have achieved this season. Do we show them respect? Do we f*ck.

Stop being such crybabies. I am ashamed to be a saints fan sometimes. You are all more annoying than Michael Owen is or ever possibly could be.

Jeese mate, you are going off on a complete tangent. It has got nothing to do with being deluded, Wigley, Lowe, Torres blah blah blah.

My gut reaction was of annoyance when I heard Owens comments and so it seems a few others.

There is nothing wrong in being proud of your club and wanting to hear from someone who participated how we gave then the runaround for 65 minutes. His comments of "We always are given a tough time by these lower league clubs" got my back up, although yes we are a lower league club and believe it or not I do realise that fact duh.

If he had said it how it was like we had them on the back foot for most of the match and that they were close to being beaten by a very good league 1 side, not a problem with that because that was how the game was, but to generalise like he did was fecking pompous and arrogant.
