Sour Mash Posted 31 January, 2011 Share Posted 31 January, 2011 (edited) Nothing wrong with the flare. Not like the guy threw it at our fans, no harm done and it looked pretty darn cool. United fans weren't as good as they have been previously when they've been down here, but they were still by far the best fans we've had at SMS this season. Top class support. Wish our away support was more like theirs. Yes and no. Yeah their support is loud and has plenty of good songs, but it helps that they can do pretty much do what they want due to the attitude of the police and stewards towards them. Also, they do have more absolute knobs following them than any other club, they seem more interested in winding up the supporters of a league one team that they've just scraped through against than anything else. Our support was too quiet on Saturday. I was in the Itchen North and there were loads of people who weren't interested in getting behind the side. It's said quite often that the fans did their bit, but the players didn't, well on Saturday I thought the opposite was true. It was 10x better against Pompey. I guess it's just down to there being people that weren't regulars.

Was in the same place for the Pompey game and it was probably the best atmosphere I've experienced at SMS - pure hatred, brilliant!
This Charming Man Posted 31 January, 2011 Share Posted 31 January, 2011 Premiership fans are mostly knob'eds who don't know what real football is. Don't know about all of you, but I like League One, the fans are far better. You're a moron. Does that mean we were all knobheads when we were in the Premiership? Were we all clueless but now thanks to our team being sh*t we're all uber fans? You're right, the 2,000 Yeovil fans that pay £15 a ticket and sit in silence the entire game are far better than the fans at White Hart Lane who sell it out every week, pay £40 for the privilege and make a right racket. Correct. There are plenty of Premier League teams that make much more noise than most of the League One clubs.
This Charming Man Posted 31 January, 2011 Share Posted 31 January, 2011 L1 was fun for a season. This year, the novelty has worn off. It's dull and boring playing in empty, silent stadiums.

Thedelldays Posted 31 January, 2011 Share Posted 31 January, 2011 How do you know? The last time we regularly had premier league fans here you were 12. lol..indeed he was.. some of the prem games had the best atmosphere I have ever seen at SMS... full Northam with the Itchen corner too...regularly the WHOLE ground would join in OWTSGMI.... and nearly every game..over 30k people

I was in Block 37 and the atmosphere in the whole Northam/Kingsland corner was excellent - it went a bit flat after their second goal but up until then it was great. Have to say it's very hard to get the whole ground singing when the Northam sing everything at 200mph - there was a couple of rounds of 'Ricky Lambert' on Saturday that were sung so fast there was no room or no time for any words, as Alan Partridge would say 'it was just a noise'. I agree, quite often when the whole ground is singing the Chapel and Itchen are a couple of lines behind the Northam, means SMS has an echoing sort of sound. The Northam needs to slow the f*ck down, everyone knows this so why dont they?

The reason is that too many aren't @rsed to get involved and get behind the team. Plenty of people around me like that on Saturday, even in the Itchen North. Why choose that area of the ground if you want to sit in silence and watch the game?
The Cat Posted 31 January, 2011 Share Posted 31 January, 2011 It was good in Kingsland/Northam corner. We were stood up in Block 36 for the first time this season. Reckon quite a lot of Block 42 shifted our way rather than over to the Itchen. None of the ST holders near us that are normally sat down complained about having to stand either. SaintNick89 Posted 31 January, 2011 Share Posted 31 January, 2011 Kicked off between two guys towards the back of Block 40 after the game. Some middle aged bloke with saints hat on just randomly started laying into a younger guy and throwing punches all over the place. Knocked a women over in the row infront of him as he went flying over the seats after the younger guy. Tokyo-Saint Posted 1 February, 2011 Share Posted 1 February, 2011 We definitely out sung them for large periods of the game, it did go flat after they got their 2nd. We don’t have a large repertoire of songs though and we seemed to have an obsession of singing anti Man U songs. The who the feck are Man Utd song for example. It couldn’t be more obvious that they would come back and bite us on the arse. It was only a matter of time before they started singing it to us. It would have been much better if we sung more pro saints songs. I remember some mongs at the back of the chapel moaning that people weren’t singing against Blackpool. I think there were plenty of people who would have joined in a good song or a song that fitted the moment but singing ‘premier league, you’re having a laugh’ 2 minutes into the first half, didn’t fit the moment. This may sound arrogant but I think there are times when certain songs fit and when they don’t. If you start the wrong song at the wrong time, don’t start moaning at people in your farmer accent when they don’t join in with you.

landford.saint Posted 1 February, 2011 Share Posted 1 February, 2011 From row X it was my impression that the person on the stretcher was female, aSaints fan, and was on 'gas and air' (for pain relief). Then again I'm myopic so probably wrong. However must admit Mrs LS and myself had a really enjoyable evening in the middle off block 41. We Were in our usual ST seats, and were joined by many from block 42. Interesting sight at end of the match when some manc about mid-40's was over by black segregation stripe giving it big to a group of 4 or 5 pre-shaving saints youths. He obviously didn't realise what a complete nob he looked.
ericb Posted 1 February, 2011 Share Posted 1 February, 2011 maybe, but some fans enjoy seeing us win on a regular basis and not having to pay £50 for a ticket - as we probably will by the time we get back there. There are many, many things i prefer about the lower leagues. The cheaper tickets, the fun of away days at places i haven't been before, the fact that most stadiums/grounds aren't corporate soulless holes and that when you chat to away fans they are always "real" fans of the teams they support. On the downside the football is so much worse at times it's just dull, there's also a weird jealousy that i find in the lower leagues (in particular) towards us, with some bizarre claims from opposing fans that just don't ring true if you actually know Saints fans. Also - and this may be a coincidence - but there seems to be far more trouble in the lower leagues, i really hate going away and having the worry of trouble that i thought had left us around the mid 90's. Saying that i'd love the meaning and football of the premiership games (let's be honest playing Spurs means a ****load more than playing Bournemouth, that's not arrogance just history) so the ideal would be to have it with the prices of league one. Not to mention without the sky hype that goes hand in hand with the top flight. Mind you perhaps it's just the changing shape of football, i was increasingly bored with the Prem' when we were there as we had no chance and i can't see it changing much if we get back. Is it possible that this game has just changed so much that i've fallen out of love? Possibly, but i really hope not!
