Transfer deadline day thread!

Ivan Katalinic's 'tache

Recommended Posts

The Puncheon situation could be interesting.

Will we accept a cut-price offer to get him out of the club, or let him rot in the reserves (sorry, development squad)?

I say let him rot!!!!

No panic, we could always (for example) loan him out after the window closes with an option to buy for 50 quid and charge a 250k loan fee

Sort of thing

Beattie on loan from Rangers, that would work if he could be kept out the nightclubs

He can only sign for Millwall. Emergency loan is the only other option

Is that 'cos of the 'no more than 2 clubs in one season rule?'

I thought that only applied to permanent signings? Otherwise we wouldn't have been able to sign N'Guessan as he's already been on loan at S****horpe this season

It does only apply to permanent signings.

You realise the beattie on loan rumour is probably on there because it's on here, but now it's confirmation that we were right?

anyway, yeah, he'd be a great signing. he'd have more chance of doing well here than most places. he'd be well up for it, still liked, settle easily and still more than good enough. hasn't had many chances at rangers, before that he was doing well in the premier league before falling out with pulis. bring him back. perfect alternative to lambert if he isn't doing it.

Couldn't agree less. As someone who watched Beattie play for 60 or so mins in the old firm game at New Year, I think he would be a terrible signing. Doesn't look fit, didn't look interested and the fact that he didn't even make the bench for the CIS cup semi final yesterday even though Rangers have lost Kenny Miller to Bursaspor speaks volumes. He really is a player who has lost his way, and it's too big a gamble to try and get him back to show him the right road.

Beattie would play for saints again but doesn't want to drop to league one hes hoping to join a poor championship team but if the wages are high and no one comes in for him then he will but saints have not made a offer as of friday.

To be honest i would prefer a quicker striker anyways beattie is a quality finisher and if we sign him i would also hope we sign a quick young striker as well to cover.

and on another note, WTF has Andy Carroll ever done to be worth upwards of £30m?

Seriously...? mentalists.

Completely agree, has always looked a deeply limited player to me. He was embarrassingly poor on his England debut against France. Typical English lump of a striker, no touch, no skill.

More to the point wtf would anyone reject a bid of £30m for Carroll?

N'Gussen looked to me like cover for Puncheon and/or Chamberlain to leave.

On Chamberlain, considering the 'we will not sell' statements from some clubs about their targeted players, a stronger statement from Saints would have been nice instead of 'we aren't looking to sell' which sounds more like a bargaining position and could be seen by ArseNil and ManUre as an invitation. AOC hasn't put in a transfer request as far as we know, and since money is meaningless to the Leibherrs, why even consider selling unless the player formally asks to go, and even then he has a long-tern contract he can be held to.

As for the idea that you can't hold on to a player who wants to leave - Oh Yes you can - for the length of his contract. And if he stopped performing, his chances of a move to a top club in 2 or 3 years time would be damaged anyway. I feel Chamberlain will still be here in the morning but if not, it would be because the club had put money first, which I don't think they should, or will.

Isn't Beattie's play a bit too similar to Lambert's. We need someone quick who gives us a different option?

Agree with this. Definately lacked pace up front against ManUre. Can't see this happening, doesn't fit the Adkins/Cortese plan of players to take us up the next couple of levels. High risk imo in terms of fitness/hunger/team spirit.

Sky Sport now saying AOC not leaving but that there will be bids in the summer. If by then Saints are in the Championship, holding on to him might be easier.

And if we can't hold onto him, we'll certainly be able to get more money for him and have time over the summer to reinvest the proceeds wisely. Win-win if you ask me!

Or we can get really silly money for him. Upwards of 15m please.

(if Andy Carroll can receive bids of 30m then anything is possible)

Right, got it.

FIFA from 2007: http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/administration/01/06/30/78/statusinhalt_en_122007.pdf

Players may be registered with a maximum of three clubs during

one season. During this period, the player is only eligible to play

official matches for two clubs.

Not sure if this has been changed since 2007 mind.

Joe Garner just went on loan to Scunny after being on loan at Huddersfield, so Puncheon can definitely be loaned to any club that wants him. I imagine it'll be loan with a view to permanent move and my money is still on Newcastle.

Well if Newcastle value Carroll at £30m, we should ask minimum £2m for Puncheon!!

If we do keep hold of AOC you just know these rumours of him going to Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool etc etc etc are going to go on for rest of season and then gotta go through it all again in the summer.... I wish Alex would just confirm his commitment to Saints and that we wouldnt have to keep worrying about losing our best players.. Guess thats football for you. Even with all the money our owners have you can never be sure of keeping hold of them
