£50m!!!! The football world and in particular the Prem is quite literally disappearing up it's own arse!

tbf 50m on him is probably fair in this day and age - as he's a proven world class player. Chelsea are buying the real deal and he's still got plenty in those legs.

Totally disagree - how can one person be worth so much money - maybe Abromovich could sponsor a few hospitals instead if he has so much money to burn.

because of the amount of money his goals would generate. it is very simple.

These mad deals could be stopped if clubs had to pay all in one go, up front. Instead the fee goes into the balance sheet and sometimes isn't paid until the player moves on again. The people running football should be given the Mubarak treatment.

Because he doesnt own a hospital, he owns a football club and that is the reality of football these days, I thought people would be used to it by now.

Seems to me that the headline grabbing fee probably never gets paid. Its inflated with "add-ons" to massage the egos of clubs, players, and agents. Rather like in American sports when players get a $80 million contract over eight years (the last three years are voidable and bump the contract total up by $40 million).

They could win the league for the next 3 seasons and the total prize / tv money* would barely cover his fee let alone his presumably sizeable salary.

* according to Wiki Chelsea earnt 16 mill last year in prize / tv money.
