SuperMikey Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Morgan was our best player today - no doubt. Unfair on Lambert and Barney as they were marked out of the game and never given the space to do anything. Our game was run from midfield, and then ran it well. Saints foreva Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 So proud of Saints, we were unlucky. Hampshire Police were ****s, it always seems to happen when they get a big away following at SMS. The Police in the Northam stand basically stopping fans from celebrating the goal, United score their 2nd and flares are going off - they do nothing. ****s. Kingsbridge Saint Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Bugger me - was that the same side I've seen twice before this season on TV in Oz? I saw our home games against Plymouth and Rochdale over here. That was so much better, even though we lost by one goal yet again. Really proud that Fergie was panicked into his 3 substitutions before the 60 minute mark. Atkinson needs to have a look at himself - how that barge on Guly wasnt a foul only he knows. Game kicked off at 3:15 over here and left the pub at Sunrise! We might have won that if we had been able to field our strongest 11. Lets nail promotion now - and the title would be a nice bonus. torsaint Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Really no weak links, but Bialkovsky's kicking is diabolical. Think we need an experienced keeper towards end of career to help defence. Richard Wright filled the bill brilliantly 2 seasons ago. Midfield run by Scholes for them and Schneiderlin for us with the latter a shade better and 15 years younger! SaintRobbie Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 We do need a more confident keeper. I'm afraid we seem to have a little weakness there. Dixon's mistake was costly and he obviously knows it. But, all in all a super performance in the round. I'm proud of my team

Tamesaint Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 (edited) And besides we've got plenty of fans that aren't from Southampton. You only have to look at some of the locations of users of this forum to see we have supporters all over the world. There is a world of difference about being an exiled Saint and a ManU supporter with no connection to the place. Such Man U supporters deserve contempt. The exiled Manc tends to be a glory hunter. They support "their" team because they like winning. They expect to win and are attracted to the team because they often do win. The exiled Saint tends to have a connection with the area. No glory hunter would support Saints!! The exiled Saint has a hard time supporting his team. Ask my son what it has been like in the playground if you support Saints and live 85 miles away from the place. At times even the teachers have queued up to take the p***. richardc Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 I think today highlighted why Fergusion is a great manager and Adkins is a league one manager - after the 1st half Fergusion realised there was no width so he changed it around and Utd got back into the game in the 2nd half. So while it worked for us in the 1st half it clearly didnt work in the 2nd half. our only threat in the 2nd half was when Harding did run down the wing. AOC was ineffectual today as he played down the middle and had no space to run in to. When the subs were finally made we stayed in the same shape - most of them playing out of position. I think Adkins bottled it. No compliants with the players - put everything into it. Regarding the singing, i think you only get a true perspective if you sit in the Chapel end - although we could make out what they were singing in the Northam it was hardly impressive - when the Utd fans got their act together it was far more impressive although nothing compared to when BHA came down. when we get back to the promised land of the premiership i think this will be a real issue and will not create the cauldren that we all want

ottery st mary Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Well done Saints....Held our own and more for 65 mins and then ran out of steam..To be expected Keeping it in perspective...Our midfield were up against Owen and Scholes for a big chunk of that game and obviously impressed.....Whatever anyone states....Owen was neat and tidy when allowed but is no midfield player and has no legs for top class striking and yet still scored... AF got it very wrong playing very narrow until his subs rectified that and then went on to stretch us on top of our tired legs.. I was impressed with Harding, Chappers and Spiderman...8/9 out of 10.... Well done lads..the rest of the side 7/8 Our Nigel can also have a 7.. Should have brought off Guly 10 mins before when crocked by Utd....Bad decision to leave him on.. I expected Spiderman to raise his game and show the potential he has got but ....well but....The experts on this forum fawning over him up against Owen and Scholes.....Did he ever hurt Utd in any important area... I still want more from this undoubted talented player....But will he give his all in the coming games..I do hope so....please Morgan..you can do it and maybe you will get your big move up the ladder.. For me Spiderman can do it... but as stated... Exeter and Peterborough is where I want him to show his worth to the side.. Great day out and thoroughly appreciate the effort given by the side........But in reality UTd never out of first gear until they had to and even then 4/5 of their top players missing.... Would like to have seen Adam Lallana show his undoubted talent but then again we need him fit for the battle ahead.. Come on Saints nine points against Exeter, Posh and Carlisle please.. Do you think United have a first team of world beaters and then some lads who were previously kicking the ball around on Newton Heath?? You need to get some persective mate. Players like Evans have been scouted by the biggest club in the world to play for the biggest club in the world... Some fans have criticised Adkins for being a worse manager than Ferguson with his tactics. Just think about that. There is little doubt that Alex Ferguson is the best manager in the world. So why would Adkins be tactically superior?? We ran United bloody close yesterday and only lost because we made mistakes. Why did we make them? Because we have League One standard players because we are in League One... And as for Ryan Giggs being 37. How has he performed in the Premiership? I thought to help, I would list below the teams who have beaten United in the league this season with Giggs in the team (and out of the team as well):

SuperSAINT Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 I have no complaints about yesterday, and was proud to be a Saints fan. That’s really all I was after. I was pretty much buzzing at the end of the 1st half (And went mental when we scored) Bart - 7 – Thought he looked solid. I was never worried when he was shot stopping or coming for crosses. Really is quite crazy that we have a keeper like him as back up. Only fault I can remember is one lazy pass in the 2nd half. Otherwise pretty damn solid. Harding - 8 – Dan was excellent today. There was me thinking Dickson was our better attacking full back! – So unlucky not to score with that gem of a corner routine in the 2nd half. He had me off my seat with his little ‘Maradona’-esque run as well. Seaborne - 7 – Looked composed, and solid. Don’t think he got caught out, and his distribution was solid all afternoon. 'Font' - 7 – See above Butterfield - 7 – 1st half, I thought his crossing was outstanding. Think he suffered in the 2nd, the minute Nani was brought on – Certainly seemed to limit his distribution, but then again, Nani cost about half as much as St Mary’s stadium, so I won’t hold it against him. Schneiderlin - 9 – I thought he was imperious, and majestic. Thought he ran the show in the 1st half. Great tackling, lovely variety of passes. Absolutely superb. My MOM. Chaplow - 8 – Tireless, aggressive and what a FANTASTIC goal! We all know what he cost, but to hear the commentator say “50k” out loud brought a smile to my face. What a bargain. Chambo - 7 – Showed glimpses. Had me off me seat a fair few times. He’s class. Great touch, control & technique. Really is going to be some player. I still would’ve loved to have seen him & Lallana on each flank running at O’shea & Fabio – I think we would’ve given them even more problems if that were the case. Guly – 6.5 – Touches of class, touches of not so much class. Out of our forwards, he’s the only one with a bit of pace about him. Should’ve done better with the header in the 1st half. But as we know, there’s a lot more to come from him in the league. Barnard – 6.5 – Worked hard, tried hard. Was much better in the 1st half, than the 2nd.. Lambert – 6.5 – See above. Couple of nice free kicks. Can’t help but feel in the 2nd half we maybe should’ve ditched the nice football and went more direct into Lambo. Generally agree with these marks, although I thought that Guly deserved a little bit more than RL and LB. Like someone mentioned earlier, he does get some unfair criticism on here normally based on him missing a "simple" chance or two. Think that he is very confident on the ball and to be honest looks like a player far too good for Div 3.

United did better in the second half because we started to tire after an hour and were only able to bring Gobern on whilst they called on Giggs and Nani. Big difference. The idea that if we had changed shape a bit we would have changed the course of the game is risible imo.

It wasn't our shape that cost us. It was two errors from League One footballers... And yes, on another day we could and maybe should have won. Had we not made those mistakes, had Harding shot better, had Dickson not screwed up... But those things will happen to us more often than they happen to United for a reason! And that completely overlooks the fitness difference that comes from playing Premiership standard football every week.

Saint Fan CaM Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 With all due respect, I would suggest that you get a hearing test next week. Man U fans started to sing after the second goal - hence the chant of you only sing when you are winning. Before then they had been pretty quiet from where I sat. ... and isn't " there's only one Markus Liebher // walking in a Liebher wonderland" about Markus Liebher?? I certainly heard that during the first half. Can't have been listening too hard then my friend the northam, kingsland corner were excellent and there was a series of ML songs at the start of the 2nd half. Echo everyone elses thoughts good game, proud of teh team, would have loved to see Lallana involved against that back 4! No need to get defensive - you THINK the Northam was loud because of where you sit. In the Itchen centre the MU supporters were loud enough to drown out much of the noise from the Northam. And anyway, my point was (as previously noted in other threads) that our support is nullified by the sheer fact that every large game our most vocal supporters are fragmented to other parts of the ground to make room for the visitors. THAT to me is just plain stupid and needs to be addressed by the club as a matter of urgency IMO.
saintant Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Schneiderlin will often be slagged off after League 1 matches. Yesterday epitomised the fact that he is far too good for this division and his brilliance is often lost in the hurly burly style of football. Put him in a match like yesterday against gifted opponents who want to play football and he will shine every time. No surprise that he was our best player against United and it is likely that others representing clubs in the Premier League would not have missed the class he showed and a few might come knocking. ottery st mary Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 (edited) I am trying to get the hang of this debating thing... Finding it very difficult to get my handbag in the same routine swing as windows, little crocodile number.. I feel I have the biggest diiick in the world but windows keeps deflating me as he is such a good coach..Is he doing something wrong? AND so knowledgable.. I can't release my tongue to get it round anything and therefore I am hampered when it comes to this great debate.. Come on Saints up for the next one.... See you all behind the goal at Exeter.....I am round the ground as we speak turning all the water sources to the ground ..off.. windows...I luv you so much.. PS With your coaching ..Spiderman could be good one day... BUT will either of you turn up on cold Tuesday night at the glue pot? Let us hope at least Spiderman is there and I will kick his arssse.. INTO more action.....My own type of coaching.. Edited 30 January, 2011 by ottery st mary forgot I would kick sp[idermans arssse
