I have never wanted to see Saints lose a game but for the first time ever I find myself hoping we get knock out of the cup. The reason is simple: we must get out of this league this season and we cannot afford too many more distractions from our primary focus, promotion. Last years cup runs probably cost us a place in the play offs; we do not need to risk further distraction with a win or even worst a draw and have to play a replay.

I hope, indeed pray that NA puts out a weak team and rests key players. What is the point of feilding a full strength team today in a game that is almost meaningless? Will we win the FA Cup? Highly highly unlikely. Why risk injury, bookings and suspension?

Our real game is on Tuesday away at Exeter, that we must must win and we need our key players in full fitness, ready to win. In the last two leagues we have looked distracted, consequently we have only 1 point from 6. This is the overwhemly reason why we must get of this cup quickly.

Why bother leaving the house? Might get hit by a bus, struck by lightning, eaten by bear.

Best stay in. Lock those doors, stay safe, never take risks

Yep its mad, but I'm with you.

I'm trying to do the 92 and if we win Rochdale goes to midweek and I can't make it.

And we won't be playing Rochdale next season (hopefully!)

WE MUST NOT WIN!

Some people are just weird. Really find it difficult to get my head round the idea that someone can support a team (any team) and hope they lose. The fact the we have shown over and over again that the cup run last season did not cost us a play-off place indeed we never lost a game following an FA Cup game) doesn't seem to have gotten through. Our performance after our last cup game was diabolical wasn't it, I'm sure we would have scored 12 against Oldham if we hadn't been distracted by Blackpool. Of course we aren't going to win the Cup this year, but I don't think there is any way that today's game will have even the remotest bearing on whether we are promoted. If we don't get promoted it will be because we are not good enough. The only thing I want today is for no-one to get a Red Card, and that we don't get tonked, but if we win I will be ****ing over the moon.

We will lose, it will be good for us in the long run but I don't want us to. I will be Effing ecstatic if we win. I will dance in the streets in my Saints dressing gown. (and little else) Sod it, we can go out in the next round, none of us would surely be gutted if we win today.

Ultimately, it's moot. See my first 3 words.

Well, we lost !

Davis, Richardson, Jaidi, Hammond, Lallana & Puncheon never played.

Only 1 yellow card (Butts) and no obvious injuries.

No disgrace, heads should be up, 2 away games in the coming week, bring 'em on ........

Theer were several possible outcomes today:

1. Beat the "great unbeaten giants" of English football.......well, we came surprisingly close.

2. Draw and relay at OT - probably get trashed.

3. Lose but with heads held high

4. Lose badly

Clearly as a saints fan, option 1 would have been fantastic. However it didn't happen and option 3 was clear and away the best "second choice" outcome .

Onwards and upwards (literally) - it will be interesting to see if Brighton's cup run affects their league performance.

when we scored I went mad. When we were trying to equalise at the end was wondering whether really wanted replay..strange but league seems that important now

Agree Nick, I did not want us to score from 2-1 down.

A replay would have served little purpose and it we'd have been trashed I fear it would have affected the team's belief.

As it is, we have nothing to be ashamed of and need to concentrate playing like we did in the first half, in the rest of the League 1 games (ideally repeat our Oldham performance).

I think we should now lose every game this season. Lets face it there is no point being promoted to the premier league becasue we are never going to win it let alone come close. FFS

I don't really believe those who say they want to lose.

Did you really have your head in you hands as Chaplow scored? And did you punch the air when Hernandez got their winner?

Yeah this is exactly how I felt towards the end. A replay was the last thing we needed with all the re-arranged games from december to contend with as well.
