Wes Tender Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 Wes, how can you refer to it as petty vindictiveness, if you have no idea what it's about? Benali, is suing corteste/ Saints, if he wins, would that not prove he was in the right? Cortese, quite rightly has our support, but that is not unconditional and as an employee of the club he has a duty of care, to behave and act in an appropriate manner. Benali has called that into question and is now suing him/ the club. I can easily describe it as petty vindictiveness, because Benali aired his dirty washing in public. It is a private matter between him and Cortese. I have had some inkling of what Benali's grouse is about, as have the rest of the footballing public who viewed the programme. Fortunately, we have a Chairman who acts in a more professional manner, so the more reasonable people will hold judgement on the matter as they only have one side of the story. When a court judgement or out of court settlement is arrived at, then we will be in a better position to know the rights or wrongs of it. But as it stands, the wrongs of it are Benali inadvisedly mouthing off about something that would better be left out of the public domain and which besmirches the club indirectly, as it concerns our Chairman.

Pancake Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 This. I would think half the hysterical responses on here are from holier than thou arseholes who never saw the programme and have no idea of the context. Both MLT and FB are Saints fans like the rest of us. Only difference is that they both served the club magnificently in their time, unlike the rest of us tossers. Did you catch it in Brisbane then?
Thedelldays Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 could you imagine the reactions to cortese if he aired his dirty laundry on sky sports...lol
aintforever Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 If Benali feels he has been treated badly by someone I don't think he is duty bound to keep it secret.
Thedelldays Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 If Benali feels he has been treated badly by someone I don't think he is duty bound to keep it secret. would you have the same sympathy for NC if he did the same on telly..?
aintforever Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 would you have the same sympathy for NC if he did the same on telly..? He has hasn't he "dark forces" "milking club" etc etc
Gemmel Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 would you have the same sympathy for NC if he did the same on telly..? Of course
Thedelldays Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 He has hasn't he "dark forces" "milking club" etc etc yes....no, im on about naming specific names and having a pop atparticular individuals or groups on national telly.. dark forces could mean darth vadar for all we know
buctootim Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 would you have the same sympathy for NC if he did the same on telly..? Exactly. How professional would it be if Cortese went on Sky sports to complain a house rented from what he thought was a friend of the club was infested with lice, Cortese's stuff was stolen from the house (no sign of break in) and the utilites were cut off because of previous bills unpaid by Benali.

aintforever Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 yes....no, im on about naming specific names and having a pop atparticular individuals or groups on national telly.. dark forces could mean darth vadar for all we know I wouldn't have a problem with him being specific at all, I would prefer it.
Thedelldays Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 I wouldn't have a problem with him being specific at all, I would prefer it. no problem in public spats..? to b e fair, this club can do without more of those..
Wes Tender Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 He has hasn't he "dark forces" "milking club" etc etc So you see no difference at all between Cortese's comments relating to those who he sees as destabilising the club, or setting out a policy regarding club ticketing policy and a private dispute between a landlord and tenant? OK. So we've established your level of objectivity. Apologies if I don't put much store by it.
aintforever Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 no problem in public spats..? to b e fair, this club can do without more of those.. Agree there, there have seemed to be alot recently - The Echo, photographers, The Sun, other clubs chairman, former players...
Wes Tender Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 Agree there, there have seemed to be alot recently - The Echo, photographers, The Sun, other clubs chairman, former players... Well, you must be really happy about it all, as you have already indicated that you prefer this stuff out in the open.
Thedelldays Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 Agree there, there have seemed to be alot recently - The Echo, photographers, The Sun, other clubs chairman, former players... well, thats what you want dont you..?
Gemmel Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 Right. I believe you. Am i missing something??? I am not blindly supporting Benali or Cortese. This story has been doing the rounds for months and the upshot is Benali is upset enough to sue and simply made it public. If it turns out that Cortese behaved badly he has to accept the consequences of that coming out in the media. As does Benali if Cortese is proved to have done nothing wrong. Why would i get upset if Cortese said something in public? Confused.com

aintforever Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 well, thats what you want dont you..? I would prefer it if there wasn't spats, but if a loyal ex-player and Saints fan has a grievance I don't have a problem with them airing it. Maybe we should be asking why there are so many spats?

I expect that this forum would explode with indignation were Cortese to break his dignified silence over most of this mud-slinging, especially if he were to go on national television to respond to a landlord/tenant dispute which was a private matter between him and Benali. Benali might be a media whore, but I'm thankful that Cortese has a bit more class and professionalism.

Lol - all this mud slinging = a single quote from Benali saying he can't say much more because of a legal case. Benali a media whore .....are you sure???? As usual this forum has made a mountain out of a mole hill.

Benali a media whore .....are you sure???? As usual this forum has made a mountain out of a mole hill. But he didn't just say that he couldn't say anything because of a legal case, did he? Listen again. He told anybody who listened that he had had to send in contract cleaners after Cortese's tenancy and that rent had been unpaid. But still, that didn't register with you, so probably most others either didn't get it or couldn't care less.
Faz Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 Without taking sides in all this, wouldn't it be normal for a professional landlord to send in cleaners between tennants?

Window Cleaner Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 Without taking sides in all this, wouldn't it be normal for a professional landlord to send in cleaners between tennants? Doubt it, the tenant is usually responsible for leaving the premises in the state that he found them. That's why you have an "état des lieux" or inventory.

Window Cleaner Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 a landlord has to allow for wear and tear and cant charge for that...although, they will somehow You can probably expect most of them to write off a broken cup or a smudge on the wallpaper every 6 years or so.We rent out our parisian flat, the letting agent charges the tenants for everything that's not in order which isn't noted on the "état des lieux" but getting paid for everything is sometimes a bit difficult now that the "depot de caution" has legally been cut to 1 month. You'd be surprised at the mess seemingly nice people leave behind not to mention the things that don't work properly any more cos some idiot has fixed them when they didn't need fixing.

Deppo Posted 31 January, 2011 Posted 31 January, 2011 now that the "depot de caution" has legally been cut to 1 month Have you been looking at the infractions on my profile?
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 1 February, 2011 Posted 1 February, 2011 Did you catch it in Brisbane then? Yeah - they show it on Fox on the Sunday. Benali shouldn't have spilled the beans, but you could tell he was a little coy about releasing it into the public domain. He shouldn't have done it, but I for one am not going to hang him out to dry for an error of judgement made in the heat of the moment. Needs to be resolved in private. I have huge respect for FB, MLT and Cortese. The fact they have issues is irrelevant to me.
alpine_saint Posted 1 February, 2011 Posted 1 February, 2011 SFC has been a lad's club for far too long. NC has clearly shattered the status quo, and wants to look forwards, not backwards. That doesnt mean he is taking down historical photos and replacing them with steam trains. We also dont know the full details of the failed Pinnacle bid and the impact/jepoardy it caused the Liebherr bid. Or the immediate aftermath. But I think we are all glad things turned out the way they did. In summary, I think the ex-Saints are being a bit petty. I note with interest that the likes of Channon havent got a bad word to say about NC.

Saint_John Posted 1 February, 2011 Posted 1 February, 2011 This story gets a mention in the Charles Sale column today. Says that Southampton reckon Benali owes Cortese deposit money... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-1352310/Charles-Sale-Replays-FA-Cup-revamp.html Former Southampton crowd favourite Francis Benali claims to be taking legal action against the club's executive chairman Nicola Cortese over alleged unpaid bills. Cortese was living in a house Southampton rented from Benali's property company. The former defender said: 'We had to get contract cleaners in and there was also unpaid rent. It's a legal matter now.' But Southampton say they have received no legal correspondence from Benali and insist there is money owed back from Cortese's deposit. Saints believe the dispute has more to do with Benali no longer being a club ambassador.

Exactly. I dont know what the motivations of MLT, Benali and McMenemy are in going to the press, but Channon and the 1976 boys have been fantastic in their continuing support for the club. Secret Site Agent Posted 1 February, 2011 Posted 1 February, 2011 I dont think there was anything wrong with MLT fronting pinnacle - he obviously genuinely thought it was the best way ' date=' or only way for the club to survive and I am sure it flattered his ego to be asked to be [b']chairman [/b.] +1 Please answer me the following questions: Who would you have fronting your business? a) An ex-Player b) An ex-Banker Who would you want teaching your youngsters how to take a free kick and a penalty? a) An ex-Player b) An ex-Banker I think this speaks volumes.
sebastian firefly Posted 7 February, 2011 Posted 7 February, 2011 Not if that involves a Soccer AM to celebrate Saints playing Man Utd as a personal whinge fest. i sign of just how low we have sunk when anyone "celebrates" playing manc utd ffs x10
