What continues to **** me off is their hijacking of 'Mush'

For those that don't know 'mush' is a traditional Southampton word that means ' bloke' and derives from Monsieur. In the mid to late 19 century a lot of labour in Southampton Docks were french and thats where it came from.

Don't want to bother you with facts, but everyone I know in south Wales knows what it means and a few people use it occasionally, never mind getting narky about Portsmouth...

...before I moved here I always thought it was a London phrase as I'd heard it regularly used there as well. Either way, it's very widely used and not worth getting bothered about.

Sorry Docker but that is a myth, common term used throughout Hampshire, both the civilised part and Pompey, very common term on IW as well, usually used like "mate" rather than "bloke" though. A'right Mush?

Of course it is used further afield now. We're talking 150+ years ago when it started and people move about. As someone pointed out it is used in London too, but it started here as an abbreviation for Monsieur. Some people really need to listen to expert guests on Radio Solent more often. ;)

MUSH

Mush is British slang for the mouth; face.

Mush is British slang for a friend.

Mush was British Second World War slang for a jail cell.

Mush was old British slang for an umbrella.

Mush is Southampton slang for a boy or man.

Mush is Southampton slang for a man or boy born in Southampton.

Or maybe that's a load of bollocks. :p

I would be careful about being too precious about the word, I read somewhere that "mush" comes from the gypsy word "moosh" that means man. If what I read is true the skates can have it.

They always harp on about there amazing support, but its very similar to ares.

Away games to london they will take 2000 - 3000 thousend, same as us.

Midlands around 1500, same as us.

Up North just under a 1000, same as us.

In terms of fan bases, away from home we are both very similar clubs.

"Best fans in the world" ...in my eyes, there very average.

Not sure about that, I don't know where you can get accurate info on these things but judging by tv highlights etc their away support isn't up to ours. As a comparator - we sold 45k plus easily for the JPT final even with restricted sales, their cup final tickets ended up on open sale.
